Trump: I May Run for President if Economy Stays Bad
cnbc ^

Posted on 07/30/2011 2:40:45 PM PDT by tsowellfan

Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Friday he'd consider running for president — again — if the U.S. economy "continues to be bad: and "if the Republicans pick the wrong candidate."

"I would give it very, very serious thought," he told CNBC. "There are so many people wanting me to do it."

The Trump Organization president did not say on which party line he'd run if he didn't like the Republican candidate.

But he said congressional Republicans have a great opportunity to "negotiate a great, great deal, but they can’t be weak." He said that any deal to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline should involve cutting considerable government waste, including repealing the Obama health-care law, which he called "a disaster."

What he doesn't want is a default, he said.

"I don’t advocate default," he said. "What I do say is you can’t be afraid [of a default]. This is the time to settle the problems of years and years of abuse. This is the time for the Republicans to get the country back on track. The Republicans have the cards, the president does not have the cards."

As he did when he considered a presidential run earlier this year, Trump blamed a lot of the problems in the U.S. economy on "foolish leaders" who allow other countries — principally China and the members of OPEC — to steal jobs and keep the U.S. over an expensive oil barrel.

"People don’t respect us any longer, they don’t respect our leaders. With all these foreign countries taking advantage of the U.S., unless somebody addresses that problem we’re never going to be great again," Trump said.

He also railed against overregulation and federal bureaucrats who, he claims, are "sitting around doing nothing. It's just like featherbedding...It's absolutely sinful."

Trump added, "you have to cut, cut, cut. I see the waste. I do a lot of business with the government and it’s not fun."

If the Republicans pick the wrong candidate — i.e. Romney — then I’m onboard for a third party, whether it’s Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul or whomever.

This would just show how the Pubbie party is so entrenched in elitism. You better believe that a 3rd party would rise. Probably not enough to beat Big Ears but then when & where do you draw the line. I've heard for decades with the saying - just wait until next election. I'm done with their procrastination. 1st kick Boner out of the leadership, win the Senate & put primary candidates up against these RINOs. Lose the seat if necessary but DO NOT support a RINO. As these libs have done - it's our way or the highway. Now is our time for the same, whether that upsets the likes of Laura Ingraham, who I've lost a lot of support for because I had her way up on my list. Say No & Hell No to these libs & RINOs.

“he is living in adultery...”

Please explain and document.

1. His first boring wife, among other things, loved parting at night. He just wanted to go home and rest after a hard days work (but she wanted to party the night away).

2. His second wife was caught having an affair with someone else.

Do a little homework.

Trump is not the problem. He’s right. Just as Ross Perot was right before him.

Trump can be neutralized entirely, by one or more candidates putting down their “we are the world” koolaid, and standing up unapologetically and publicly to the “free trade” globalists.

Unless and until that happens, Trump remains a massive potential threat in 2012.

Rightfully so.

Pretty much the only way I'd even consider voting 3rd party is if I was certain it would replace the Republican party almost immediately. Other than that, no. Like it or not our winner take all system basically allows for only 2 major party's and I'm not going to waste my vote on 3rd party's that can't win and only serve to divide the right of center vote. We don't have the option of coalition government, so if the right of center vote split, and the left stuck together we'd be in danger of even losing elections in deep red states.

Trump is a clown, so I'd never vote for him. And what would the point of a Ron Paul 3rd party run be? We already have a libertarian party. I will say this though, I might make one exception. If the GOP actually nominates Romney and Governor Palin ran as a 3rd party candidate, I'd be inclined to vote for her. As she is my preferred candidate anyway, I am heavily biased in her favor. But my reason wouldn't be just that I like Palin. I am prepared for the fact that I may not get my candidate of choice. The danger with Romney is that he is so counter to the direction conservatives are moving that if he won it might have the effect of blunting the continued emerging conservative revolution. We'd be right back to having defend a RINO President, the way we were when Bush was in office - and the way we would have been had McCain one.

Constitution of the United States, Amendment XXII. http://www.usconstitution.net/xconst_Am22.html.

Washington set a two term precedent; such was his stature that it was informally honored by every President until the massively egotistical Roosevelts same along. Teddy served most of McKinley's term when he was assassinated, and tried to run against his own Party for a third term and failed. His cousin FDR tried and was successful.

After the War the Republicans restored Washington's (correct) belief that one shouldn't aim to be el Presidente for life by getting the Amendment passed.

I’m not worried the least bit. I have faith in the GOP to nominate a candidate that will be good enough to beat Obama even if there were 4 others on the ticket.

Perhaps Trump is goading Palin in an attempt to get her to announce.

I’d like to see Trump in a field vying for a VP candidate spot.

That would open up our “free trade” fiasco of a non policy front and center in the election run-up. Where it should be.

“Free-trade” republicans are like home owners, voting for termites. Every job lost to outsourcing, drives another voter over to the communists.

That is unsustainable, and will destroy the GOP unless it stops (soon).

Supposedly he quit the run for President because he had some project to work on in Lousianna and several months ago he had mentioned he’d drop out if Alan West was running otherwise he’d choose Alan West as his VP.

Possible. A good thing about Trump running up until the primaries is that he could destroy RINOs like Romney. No way he could ever hurt Sarah Palin in the polls.

Thanks but no thanks, Donald. As things are going going now, a suicidal movement will ensure Obama’s reelection. Your services to that end will not be needed.
