Boehner: 'Get your ass in line' By: Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan July 27, 2011 09:55 AM EDT
Scrambling for votes on his troubled deficit package, Speaker John Boehner told GOP lawmakers Wednesday morning to get your ass in line behind his debt ceiling bill, saying the Senate will fold and pass it.
This is the bill, Boehner said in a closed-door meeting of House Republicans on Wednesday morning. I cant do this job unless youre behind me.
Boehner was forced to postpone the vote until Thursday after the Congressional Budget Office said it fell $150 billion short of the $1 trillion goal. Many GOP lawmakers are still undecided whether they will back the measure.
Boehner also predicted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Senate Democrats will have to pass his proposal once the House does. Reid has an alternate plan to cut $2.7 trillion.
If this gets chaotic, they (the Senate) will fold like a cheap suit, Boehner said, according to GOP sources.

Speaker Boehner, Leadership 101 suggests that the quickest way to get people behind you is merely to step to the front.
Ever notice how good Republicans are at talking tough to fellow Republicans? Talking tough to Dems...not so much.
Dems talk tough to Republicans too. They rarely, if ever, do the same to fellow Dems.
I think the BBA was the part that made CCB DOA, as sad as that is.
I’d have simply re-introduced CCB w/o the BBA, then introduce the BBA seperately after this blows over - it would have MORE public visibility that way and public opinion supports a BBA...
The sellout. I thought so.
.
That is true.
We ALL do it...want the full loaf now. Also, there are plenty of reasons NOT to be pragmatic, but you have to look at this the right way.
As I said earlier in the thread, I challenge ONE Freeper to become a Representative and get a bill passed! It’s harder than we think it is behind our keyboards.
OK, then we will replace you with someone we CAN get behind!
Rush has gone soft. I’ve gravitated to Levin lately. He’s not worried about getting “important” people upset at him, like Rush and Hannity are.
We know, John. We don't want them behind you!.....................
“Rush really PMO when he allowed Boner to present his side without the logical retort.”
Rush admitted several times that he should have challenged Boner
We don’t a cut one the growth of govt, we want a major cut now!
I agree. This is not the time to go for the whole enchilada. We have to get rid of Obama and the Dem majority in the Senate first. Like it or not, we cannot afford to lose a PR battle at this time and we cannot let the dems continue to ruin the economy. We have to take what we can get now and get the rest after 2012.
Boehner the Head Turd Polisher.
1. THESE ARE NOT PROPOSED CUTS TO ANYTHING!! They are REDUCTIONS IN THE INCREASES!! This is still not fiscally responsible conduct.
2. Boehner is starting to flail, plea, and sputter like Nobama. It is also becoming more and more apparent that he does not share the important conservative views most Americans are demanding. Our freshmen need to be reminded that we expect them to stand firm to the pledges they made when we sent them to D.C., IN SPITE of what “Leader” Boehner is instructing them to do.
We will win this battle in the war.
Maybe, you are right — maybe you can’t do this job
He sure can’t.
“The problem is that nothing serious about the debt can be done with Reid-Obama and the Democratic clowns infesting the Senate and Presidency. Until then, pretty much everything is around the edges.”
Unfortunate but true.
I totally agree - and removing the BBA could be the simple change made to re-pass it and resubmit to Senate.
IMO the CCB being omitted from the conversation is what lost us our control of the situation.
Just called my Congressman’s office to remind him that his “rear-end” was answerable to me, not to Boner.
The girl on the other end seemed surprised by this.
After listening to that conversation between Rush and Boehner yesterday, my head was spinning.
I don't see that expanding the debt without real corresponding entitlement cuts is the path to victory in 2012.
