Obama: I’m Dealing with Debt Issue Like Lincoln Dealt with Slavery (Video)
Breitbart TV ^ | July 2011 | ?

During a discussion with college students at the University of Maryland last week, President Obama compared his current struggles with the debt ceiling debate negotiations with Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation.

“Yeah, I’m sure Lincoln stonewalled every proposal sent his way, and during when nearing an agreement during negotiations, made new demands.”

He also harrassed people in their homes (tresspassed), shut down his critics (newspapers), suspended habeas corpus and tried to deport his enemies. There’s more in common than just what you said! Maybe we’ll lose less than (over) a half million this time, if we’re lucky.

He keeps comparing himself to the greatest: Reagan, Lincoln and I thought I heard FDR.

He lives in fantasy land, seriously. He doesn’t know who he is because he never had a father - or much of a mother - not to mention bi-racial and citizenship problems. What a MESS!

As Sarah said in her convention speech: The presidency of the US is not the place for a journey of personal discovery.

“Unconstitutionally, while creating a war for the sake of his ego?”

Certainly has the potential.

OK. From a military perspective:

“Lincoln’s bold step to change the goals of the war was a military measure and came just a few days after the Union’s victory in the Battle of Antietam. With this Proclamation he hoped to inspire all blacks, and slaves in the Confederacy in particular, to support the Union cause and to keep England and France from giving political recognition and military aid to the Confederacy. Because it was a military measure, however, the Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. It also expressly exempted parts of the Confederacy that had already come under Union control. Most important, the freedom it promised depended upon Union military victory.’

Okay fine, but dammit this time let’s make the north wear gray and the south wear blue, just to change things up.

Slaughter and destruction for some arbitrary abstraction-”the union”-is nuts. Today we can just substitute “the collective” or the “common good”.

“Lincoln didn’t create slavery. Obama created this debt crisis. BIG DIFFERENCE.”

Exactly!

Yep. It was all out of political expediency. Lincoln did nothing that wasn’t good for Lincoln. Considering the expansion of the FedGov under “Honest Abe,” and seeing how we had no term limits back then, I shudder to think what he would have done with 10-20 more years.

I thought he was supposed to be Reagan walking away from the negotiating table at Reykjavik...

(Barky walked away because the meeting exceeded his attention span)

First, he thinks he is Pres. Reagan. Now he’s Lincoln. However, over half the country thinks he is Jimmah Carter, and they are right.

He’s right to bring up the slavery issue but he is on the wrong side. We have become slaves to our government, they take our money and have severely limited our freedom with over-regulation.

True. The only real objection that liberals have to slavery in America is that the slaves were privately owned.

And half the country will be devastated when he's done.

I would rather be run over by Sherman than Obama. At least after Sherman burned the place down he marched and let the people get about rebuilding. Obama's Socialist policies more damage over a much wider area then Sherman's army ever did. And then the EPA and OSHA stay around forever to prevent rebuilding with an infinite quantity of red tape.
