President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks.

"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News.

i know this because they send me annual statement that tell me how much of MY money they are graciously holding for me...

Yes, but a lot of our little elderly voters will believe that evil Republicans stopped their August SS checks, and Obama know that. The GOP’s long-term lack of principles gives it little credibility with the elderly poor.

Well and what really ticks me off about SSI are all the people, “fresh off the boat,” old, frail, aging, lazy, whatever. Never paid a dime into the system but can collect more than my parents, who worked here their entire lives, will ever see. As Marco Rubio said today to Rush, this will demonstrate as nothing else does that there is no such thing as a Social Security trust fund. Congress has blown it all.

If the debt limit is not raised. Which will not due to Zeros refusal to meet even half way. He has NO plan, period. boehner is out yelling about Zeros lack of leadership. The Repubs have to keep that up or the media will stick them with the blame.
sero thinks all retirees are living on investment etc. When some get evicted, nursing homes tell the fam to take their relative home, electric is turned off due to non payment and Seniors start dying from the heat. OH yeah OBAMA is counting on being able to stop those checks. He is so desperate to win in 2012.

I always hoped I could have just a few of the SS dollars back that they stole from me for the last 30 years... At the rate it’s going though, I’ll just be lucky to be “allowed” to keep my few private pension and 401K dollars!

Good thing we’re gonna get some chickens, I’ll send some eggs up north :0) Until they redistribute those too.
