‘Your God Is My God’: Beck Delivers Speech Before Jewish Politicians, Knesset
The Blaze ^

Posted on 07/11/2011 11:45:12 AM PDT by lbryce

Glenn Beck was given a unique opportunity on Monday while visiting Israel: he delivered a rousing speech before the Jewish version of congress, called the Knesset.

“Where you go, I shall go, Your people is my people, your God is my God,” Beck said, quoting the book of Ruth while addressing the Knesset Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs Committee.

“As a man who also worships the one God, in the times that we live in, it is clear that what is going on is God’s work. If we are silent, evil will win. But if we stand up and take charge, God will do the rest,” he added, according to the Jerusalem Post.

He also encouraged members to reach out to those of other faiths:

“If you go to a synagogue, reach out to a church. If you go to a church, reach out to a JCC. Say, will you watch this with me? After that we’ll talk and eat and get to know one another.”

Glenn Beck is a national treasure, one of the greatest men in America today, a man who not only sees what so many here on Free Republic see, but uses his passion and talents and faith and patriotism to get the word out about the forces of evil that are surrounding the free world.

Beck is the real deal. He deserves thunderous applause for enlightening so many with history lessons that teach what America is - like Israel and the Jewish people, she a light unto the nations under attack by a scourge of evil that wants to destroy the light. I don’t care whether he’s Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Taoist or Muslim.

This man has taken the best there is to offer from the world’s wisdom and has evolved to a high level of knowledge and sensitivity since his days of light banter. It is because he is such a worthy challenger to the lies of extremists that the Communist Left work so hard to make up lies in hopes of removing him from public view. Their plan is boomeranging, since people are hungry to the information and inspiration that Beck has given the American public.

Here is a discussion on the subject of which you are interested. It may not satisfy you, but it might give you a little more insight on the subject from the Catholic prospective.

Same God. No heresy.

In order to understand, do not relinquish your love for God, but remember your love for Him is to be a sacrificial love, not an adversarial reproaching judgment of what He provides.

God Bless.

Hitler was NOT a Christian. There is much to be said of our abandonment of the Jew. Pastor John Hagee of Texas-and others have opened my eyes to this. There may well have been Christians who sent Jews to the gas chambers but I would wager to say they were Christian in name only. Remember Jesus of Nazareth that Rabbi form Nazareth and most ,if not all of His disciples were JEWISH. That doctrine Jesus taught of His Father was decidedly Hebrew. And the sound doctrine of the
New Testament -that of the man known as Paul who was Saul of Tarsus was that of a Pharisee. And the men who wrote the New
Testament were Jewish. They taught in the synagogue. Now they may not have been Babylonian -may not have been Jerusalem-but they were NOT Greeks. And I’ve no time for BIGOTS no matter who they claim to follow.

The Nazi were aligned with the slaves of Allah as well.Even had a Division or two that were Muslim. But we do agree that they were ,for the most part...Not Christian- but a Party determined to destroy the Church. And the Confessing Church though persecuted and reviled -the true church was Not destroyed by the Evil known as the third Reich.

the Constitution allows all of us to believe and practice as we see fit

No, the Constitution prevents Congress from establishing an official Church of the United States.

Unbelievable! It prevents the government from setting up a state religion which along with freedom of speech guarantees us the right to practice and believe as we will. It does not give citizens outside of the government the right to dictate or limit the beliefs or practices of others. It’s a small, other than Christian mind that will denigrate another’s belief in God or Christ because their beliefs are not the same as yours.

Congratulations!

Why....thank you! You do see clearly!

...one God, no intermediaries, no helpers, no translators, no intercessors, no split shifts, no messengers, no relatives, no hanging out in human or animal or plant bodily form. He does not desire us to shrink our conception of him to one of human form. Just because we are created in the image of God does not mean that we have to reverse engineer God into human form.

Brilliant...that would be my new tag line if it werent so long.....no split shifts...love it.

Glenn was simply telling them that he and many millions of us support them and are still loyal to Israel.

That is all he needed to say. Not the passage in Ruth where she converts to Judaism. Beck is twice removed from the truth of the Holy Scriptures. I am glad he is supporting Israel in a big way. I wish more of our high profile Christian friends like Rush, or Hannity or Politicians would have taken the leadership on this issue.

Better yet, I wish our Jewish leaders would have done it....

Same God. No heresy.

My dear FRiend. You can say that all day long...but it doesnt make it so.

Did you not read the post? If G-d were a multiplicity of persons He would have said so...clearly...plainly...directly. At Mt Sinai, it was a National Revelation. He said...I HAVE NO FORM.

For Christianity to then 1500 years later say...guess what! G-d has a form! He is this god-man hybrid! Now...you must believe in him or else! Oh, and there is a 3rd person you must believe in too...god the holy spirit! And you must pray in the god-mans name! You must celebrate him by eating his flesh and drinking his blood! (just pretend though...unless your Catholic)....etc...etc

That makes G-d out to be a treacherous...duplicitous, liar. (G-d forbid). To give a nation a law they cant follow after telling them they can (Deut 30)....Tell them the Law is forever (Psalm 111 and many other places) when it is not forever...To tell this nation He is alone...when He is really three....To require no faith in a messiah for salvation...then to require it? What kind of god is that? It is not the G-d of my forefathers, not the G-d of the Jewish Bible...It is the god and god-man of the Grecco-Roman culture.

G-d Bless

The presumption is that Peter was given great powers and they reside in whomever the church decides to pass them to.

Presumption?! Rather than presuming, how about we consult Scripture on the matter (I'll use the KJV to keep us on equal footing)...

Matt 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Our Lord is speaking directly to Simon Barjona here and changes his name to "Peter" which means "rock". He then makes this rock (and, metaphysically, his testamony of faith) a firm anchor for His Church. Some argue that Jesus is not calling Peter "rock" but that is false as there is only one word for rock in Aramaic and it is used both as the identifier and the object.

Note that in addition to his commission to ground the Church, Peter is also given a very specific gift in the "keys to the kingdom of heaven". To understand this, we have to first remember that Jesus is the Son of David, heir to King David's throne. If it were not so, God's covenant to David was not fulfilled. We have been given a model of the governance of the Davidic kingdom in the Old Testament:

Isaiah 22:15 Thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say, 16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock? 17 Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee. 18 He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord's house. 19 And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down. 20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: 21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. 22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. 24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.

You see two things here... first, the keys of the House of David represent the authority of the Prime Minister. There are many ministers to administer the kingdom but the Prime Minister bears the authority of the keys. These keys represent the authority of the king. The second thing one should note is that the authority of the office is transferrable. When one no longer occupies the office a new Prime Minister is chosen to replace him.

Before Christ walked in Jerusalem, God gave us a glimpse of Himself through Isaiah...

Isaiah 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. 13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. 14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. 15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. 16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.

God goes to great lengths in these passages to make it clear that He is speaking firsthand. God is the speaker and yet the speaker has been sent forth by God and His Spirit. It is a great mystery... but your beef is with Him... we simply take Him at His Word.

one God, no intermediaries (prophets?), no helpers (angels?), no translators (Rabbis?), no intercessors (Levitical priests?), no split shifts (Isaiah 48), no messengers (angels and prophets?), no relatives (Ex 4:22, Isaiah 54, et al?), no hanging out in human or animal or plant bodily form (Gen 18).

Some rants just don't pass the smell test...

That makes G-d out to be a treacherous...duplicitous, liar. (G-d forbid).

No, it shows how God has revealed Himself throughout history. Christ came in the fullness of time... when the world was ripe for the harvest. The Holy Trinity in no way diminishes God nor contradicts Scripture. It our finite understanding of an infinite reality.

To give a nation a law they cant follow after telling them they can (Deut 30)....Tell them the Law is forever (Psalm 111 and many other places) when it is not forever

The Law is forever... but that is the Law of God given on Sinai. The Mosaic Law of Deuteronomy was a yolk placed on a stiff-necked people for their reproof. The yolk was lifted by Christ on the Cross. The Law of God is forever.

To tell this nation He is alone...when He is really three

He is alone... and yet He is three in one. It is a great mystery that has been revealed, not invented. You clearly come from a Jewish tradition so appealing to Christ's Words in the New Testament will not open your eyes... however, Christ opened the eyes of the blind and told the lame to walk so that the Jewish people of His day would come to see that the Messiah had come. These were the things they were expecting. That is why Jesus replied thus to John the Baptist when he asked if Jesus was the one they were waiting for. The miracles were to show them His Power and Authority and His Sacrifice was the sacrificial offering of the New Covenant promised by God at our exit from the Garden of Eden.

To require no faith in a messiah for salvation...then to require it?

What kind of salvation do you mean? The Jewish people have long-awaited their Messiah... what would you do when you meet Him? Ignore Him because your faith is only in God? God is the One Who sends the Messiah for our salvation... how can there be salvation without faith in the One He sent?!

What kind of god is that? It is not the G-d of my forefathers, not the G-d of the Jewish Bible.

The Church thrives because our history is rooted in the promises to Abraham and it is unbroken. When the Apostles preached Christ to the world, they went first to Jew and then to Gentile. The reason for this is because the Jews were the first born to be reborn in their Messiah. The primary method used to convert the Jews was their own Scripture. When understood, all of history and all of Scripture proclaims Christ. Seek and you will find.

May God bless you.

I don’t think Beck was trying to speak in theological terms in quoting Ruth. He seems to have been looking for an image that would express that he wants the Jewish people and the world and the almighty to know that he understands that Judaism and the Jewish people remain the source and strength for all the teachings of ethical monotheism.

The almighty works in mysterious ways.
