Historian Schama Makes Newsweek Debut Bashing Tea Partiers Over Respect for Founding Fathers

Columbia University professor Simon Schama made his Newsweek debut yesterday with a blog post that indirectly attacked Tea Party activists and conservatives for what Schama considers a historically illiterate ancestor worship of the Founding Fathers.

"The Constitution’s framers were flawed like today’s politicians, so it’s high time we stop embalming them in infallibility," snarked the subheading for Schama's June 26 post.

You have to understand their utter need to frame the terms of any debate.

If they can do that, they “win” everytime. They start with a pre-determined
or desired outcome and work backwards to get it. In the case of the framers and more particularly the constitution, not to mention modern politicians, they don’t want YOU to read the constitution or Bill of Rights for yourself, they want you to read their interpretation. “We’ve just heard the candidates speech, now we’ll tell you what they really meant.”

This is especially true in academia, they basically tell you what conclusions must be drawn, and grades suffer for concluding wrong.

These are details of historic accuracy of which I'm sure Professor Schama would approve.

But I have to laugh a little. My personal suspicion is that the good Professor doesn't know many Tea Party people, or he'd scarcely say such a silly thing. He apparently is reacting to stereotypes, and for historians that is a cardinal sin.

Jimmy Carter, despite his gigantic flaws as a leader displayed much less severe personal flaws. As for Bill Clinton . . . there are degrees of imperfection and in his personal life he rose to the top on the scale of sleaze. While the Founding Fathers were also imperfect, they created a governmental blueprint that would if followed make our government the best in the world, primarily because they recognized (as many on FR have observed) the limitations of the flawed and shallow men who have followed them.

I would love to see a class action suit brought by the people against the MSM on the charge of sedition and also prosecuted under RICO. Just what we know thanks to the JournOlist crap, along with multiple instances per day of collusion seem to me to be more than enough to make the case.

But as usual, no funding and God knows it would take a ton because the MSM would have hundreds of lawyers. They are corrupt at best from the national to the local level and in no way the ‘free press’ the constitution allows for or protects.

JournOlist proved beyond any possible doubt that there is active attempts ongoing to subvert the will of the people and the entire electoral process.

I think all conservatives should be encouraged to seriously study history, the sciences, civics, theology etc. My interests run toward history and science so they’ve become a bit of a hobby to me.

The point is to become capable of destroying these elitists in a debate. Plus, education is never a bad thing and we’re never too old to learn. The schools aren’t going to teach this stuff so we’re going to have to.

Even my tagline is a nudge in the direction of learning our history.

Simon Schama is a funny little foreign guy who teaches, ha, ha, ha, ha, ~ this kills me ~ ART HISTORY at Columbia University.

It's all lies doncha' know.

Simon should be sent packing back to his smarmy little island.

I'm sorry my ancestors didn't kill more of his in the Revolution ~ might have eliminated him from the current timeline and we'd never know about him.

He's an embarrassment to all fair minded people in any country.

That building is in Ohio. I've seen it up close. There's a basket factory not too far away ~ owned by the guys in the building.

I even own some of those baskets. I have a sister in law who had a friend who sold their baskets. She has a large collection and is able to establish an interior decorating convention that makes use of them quite well.

I even have a mousepad with that building on it.

The enemies of of an established nation must seek to destroy it’s foundation. Look at Psalm 11:3: “If the foundations be destroyed, what will the righteous do?”

No man can read the prayers, of Washington, Adams, Madison and not respect the purposes and goals of of these founders, and stand in awe of the costs they gave to found a “Nation under God, Indivisible.....

And if you will, read the purposes and lives of those that founded: Yale, Harvard, Princeton etc. (But it seems those great University’s foundation have been destroyed).

Go back to Psalm 9:7; “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God.”

My prayer is: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD;....” (Psalm, 33:12a)

Proverbs 14:34 says: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Last; “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)

Of course the Left’s hagiographic figures (Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Che Guevara, Malcolm X, etc.) are prsented as flawless saints, “Christlike” (except that Jesus is treated with contempt; Jesus fathered kids with Mary Magdalene, the Da Vinci Code told me so).

But if anyone referred to the reverent portrayals of MLK, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X as “ancestor worship,” it would be a hate crime.

Thanks for posting. I wouldn’t go near a Newsweek magazine and this only reinforces the reasons why.

Here’s an interesting take on “Founding Father Bashing”. Seems to be a coordinated effort.

Well, from a Leftist historian, I think we can make some allowances to reduce some of the shock. ;^)

It is startling to see this type of movement right out in public. These folks are brazen!

""The Constitution’s framers were flawed like today’s politicians, so it’s high time we stop embalming them in infallibility,"

Ignorant emotional outburst. There are no Tea Partiers claiming infallibility for the founders. Maybe it's time Schama stopped embalming himself in the schnapps.

Right now with a Marxist holding all the power, they can be. The thing is, when that Marxist loses power and we regain it (assuming we elect people with guts who will DO SOMETHING about it) those idiots will continue, cry foul and try to brazen it out and that just ain’t gonna work.

When held to account, that’s when the masks will come off and the violence will erupt. Assuming something else doesn’t start it (Holder’s race war for instance) first.

A Brit named Matin Kelly (martinkelly.blogspot.com) claimed Schama had himself stated he was not a US citizen. so email him and ask him for a reference. Though I’m sure Holder’s DOJ is ready with a wink and a nod.
