The daughter of a prominent New York lawyer has told of her amazing transformation from sheltered, society girl to seasoned combat veteran. Former Manhattan jetsetter Jane Blair swapped her pampered life in New York to become one of the first women on the frontline in Iraq.
In her new memoir Hesitation Kills, Mrs Blair, now a 38-year-old captain in the Marine Reserves, recalls the moment that changed her life.
She said: 'I grew up in this environment where I never had to work for a living. My dad told me, "I will always take care of you".'
She was in Crete when the first Gulf War broke out, and she met soldiers en route to deployment.

Good for her ! I know elitists, society types will blackball her but she has my respect !
Doesn't everybody?
There are a number of very ugly (and I suspect anti-American) remarks posted at the bottom of the article, but for some reason I am unable to post a rebuttal. Anybody else like to have a go at telling the ignorant posters what patriotism means to Americans?
Being an American is just like patroitism, only different. Being an American is a way of life, it is a living, breathing enity. Not everyone that lives or was born in the United States is an "American". Being An Ameiican is being self reliant, as Louis L'Amor used to state in his westerns, "killing your own snakes". Being an American means solving your own day to day problems. Not crying on the shoulders of government or the police. That is only a little of what being an American entails.
It looks like the publication staff pulled the comments.
Comments are currently not available. It must have been some really anti-American bile that was posted.
I say good for this Marine. Yes, the social circle she was from is likely limousine liberal, and she is likely blackballed. But then, no real loss for her. She has chosen real people dealing with reality unvarnished.
I sleep with a Czech pistol on one side of my bed, an American rifle on the other, a Japanese katana hanging on the wall, and a Belgian Tervuren keeping watch at the door.
Celebrate diversity.
For some sick reason, the Brits have been really, really nastily and bigoted against Americans. When we killed Bin Laden, there were horrible comments calling us warmongers and suchlike. It really made me wonder if we should be allies with them after all.
Some do.
Post a picture of the Belgian, please! :O:.
That was supposed to be LOL
Amazing story. I’d like to read her book.
If there was a woman that looked like that around, I wouldn't even sleep!
Doesn’t make any difference to you if she snores—she’s married to another Marine!
There has been resentment against the Americans for 300 years, so that is unlikely to change. At the moment, however, the Brits have the same situation we have here in the US: there is a very noisy, aggressive, loud, demanding contingent of leftists, liberals, and frank commies trying hard to destroy everything that is good and decent in British society, aided by Islamists and other traitors. You hear a LOT from them, and their activities and opinions are the ones that mostly make it into the press. They're centered on the cities, of course. But the majority of British people are quite normal and do not hate us; they like us, and many of them want nothing more than to go to Florida on vacation. Out in the countryside of places like Herefordshire life is unchanged and very civilized, full of lovely, hardworking, good-hearted people.
