< I wonder if it was the same guy? Mine was on Second Avenue between 79th and 80th.

That's roughly the same neck of the woods I saw mine in, but this was back in the mid 70's. Maybe there's been a cult of urban pigeon trappers running around unnoticed for years.

Rats with feathers! Urban geese are a problem because they have become so lazy that they don’t bother migrating. It is easier to live full time in some park or other green place where the eating is good and nothing wants to eat them or shoot them. Harvesting them is a good idea unless they came from someplace like a golf course that sprays tons of chemicals on their food. The homeless could also have some venison from all of the deer that have discovered the joys of suburban living. Put some squirrel on the menu, too.

“Goose is very fatty. Bloomberg’s health nazis will never allow this, because it would be like poisoning the homeless.

Goose meat is about as lean as it gets.

Well, I'm no expert so I'll defer to you. But I did note the one time I actually was involved in cooking a goose dinner, the freaking oven looked like a fat bomb hit it after the thing was finished cooking.

I'm a big roast duck eater, though, and (especially if it's not cooked extra crispy), it can be pretty fatty between the skin and the meat.

Teach the homeless to catch and butcher the geese! Then there would be progress! Then, on to the pigeons.

Good utilization of a natural resource...but I thought Canadian Geese were an 'endangered' species???

In my area, but I suppose it's the same everywhere nowadays, every retention pond has dozens upon dozens of Geese/Ducks/Swans. The fun part is when they waddle across the road in single file with dozens queued up for their turn (and NOW with the gaggle of youngsters). Makes for a fun commute.

I also have up to 11 deer that bed down in my English Ivy covered hillsides. If I could only donate that herd to the homeless. They feed on roses, veggies, hibiscus, perennials and most flowering bulbs. Late night, I see the deer grazing upon all the neighbors' new landscapes. But cull them ..oh no...the 'greenies' cannot have that!!!

Direct the hungry to the nearest wind turbine farm.

They can pick up the shredded poultry downstream.

Instant fajitas?

Bloomberg’s health nazis will never allow this, because it would be like poisoning the homeless.

One of the food banks in DC has a list of food that's unacceptable as donations because it is not healthy. Canned soup and sugary cereals are on it. Guess how many contributions they've gotten from me?

I’ve suggested that for years. There’s good eating on those Canadian poop-factories.

...Louisiana’s distribution of nutria meat through the prison system ...

Nutria = rat, yes? If Sheriff Joe finds out Louisiana's pawning off rat meat on their prisoners, he's going to be greener than his bologna with jealousy.

I'm shopping for some equipment to mince goose meat. Which is better: General Electric or Pratt & Whitney? Or maybe Congress can order me to buy both.

Yeah, these geese are way different from domestic geese. Very dark, lean meat. The ‘needy’ wouldn’t care for them much if they roast ‘em like a chicken.

I have been a hunter (waterfowl) since I was 12 years old (35 now) and my father taught me that you eat what you kill or give the meat to someone that will. So I have been donating a majority of my kills to homeless shelters for 23 years. It's good to see yankees are finally catching on.

In my experience, only younger birds are suitable for roasting. Older birds - and they can live to be 20 years or longer - are tough as shoe leather.

Have you tried making stew or chili out of it in a slow cooker?

One of the best dishes at Karl Ratsch’s German restaurant in Milwaukee, one of the best German restaurants in the contry, is braised goose shank. If the cooks know how to prepare the geese (I tried cooking one once and it was a disaster) the homeless are in for sonme great eating. The big problem is how to deal with all the grease.
