Giving Away the Farm--Obama admin is freely giving Russia sensitive info about missile defense
Foreign Policy ^ | JUNE 7, 2011 | JAMES WOOLSEY, REBECCAH HEINRICHS

President Barack Obama's administration recently threatened to veto the defense budget, citing "serious concerns" over provisions that limit the U.S. missile defense know-how that the White House is permitted to share with Moscow. This is the sort of information that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, in his earlier days, would have assigned his spies to steal. Through its single-minded pursuit of "resetting" relations with Russia, the Obama administration may simply be willing to hand over this information and, in doing so, weaken U.S. national security.

Only two days after issuing the veto threat -- and as Obama tried to warm Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to U.S. missile defense plans at the G-8 Summit in Deauville, France -- the House of Representatives passed the defense bill. It included the provision that the president's team finds so offensive: Section 1228 requires that no funds can be used to provide the Russian Federation with sensitive U.S. missile defense technology.

This act of congressional prudence did not come out of nowhere. The Senate debate over New START raised questions about what the Obama administration may have promised Moscow regarding U.S. missile defense plans. The debate stemmed from the treaty's preamble, which linked offensive and defensive weapons, and a Russian unilateral statement that stated ratification of the treaty was conditional on whether the United States made improvements to its missile defense systems. In a treaty about reducing offensive weapons, it was clear the Russians required the Obama administration to include U.S. defenses in the bargain.

With that issue still unresolved, Congress discovered that the administration has been working on a missile defense agreement with the Russians and that Moscow had requested that the United States share with it loads of sensitive U.S. missile defense technology and operational authority as part of that deal...

Obama will not be happy as long as the United States can defend itself.

Unilateral disarmament (surrender to Communism) has been the goal of the radical American Left since the 1960s. Sadly Americans were dumbed-down enough to elect one of the most dedicated radicals as our President. Given a Senate majority filled with like-minded "Democratic Socialists," the rest of the story plays out seamlessly.

It is. But the law against treason is very loosely enforced or else half the democrat party would be in prison.

"Eliminate the power of the United States.........."

Don't you and the neocons mean "Eliminate the power of the United States to be the world hegemon".

You NeoCons pulled out all the stops to try to stop the passage of START last year but failed. So now you will try to legislatively preclude the prez, STATE, DOD, and Energy from using certain provisions to implement START, in this particular case, the technology exchanges.

Since foreign policy is the prerogative the Senate we will have to wait and see what happens there.

In the meantime the House GOP has some good veto bait.

I see... and the military establishment is “just going along”.. following orders?..
That would make them TRAITORS..

Have Bill Clinton and Obama promoted TRAITORS as Generals and Admirals of the armed forces?..
WHO, I ask you, would be surprised if they did?..

Take Weasley Clark as an example.. or Colin Powell..

The United States is being set up for the biggest economic and military “hit” in history.

They must take down the USA to implement the New World Order/One World Government.

"giving away our defense technology"

NeoCon mis-info.

Can you tell me how you plan to fight the war on terror, the war on Islam, and a rekindled cold war at the same time. How much is all that going to cost?

There’s only one word that normal, sane people can use for this: treason.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

Are you going to expand troop levels in Afghanistan? Or pull 15,000 out.

Or better yet, let Obama decide, then try to hang it around his neck.

What’s that got to do with giving the Russians our defense assets?

As pointed out in 28, which you responded to, they are all parts of the military aspects of our foreign policy.

There is a big picture. START starts with Reagan's SALT 3 that advanced as START by the Realists in Reagan's second term, passed by the Realists during GHW Bush. It expired while the NeoCons controlled GW Bush's foreign policy and they wouldn't renew it. When Obama was elected the Realists got the new START passed and now the NeoCons are trying to block implementation of the new START.

And what really has the NeoCons panties in a knot is that if and when START gets implemented, the next treaty will be the comprehensive test ban treaty.

Folks, this is treason just like when Clinton gave the Russians the technology to make their subs make less noise.

I think our Military/Indrustial Complex of companies want this information shared so that they have to come up with new ways to defend America against our own technology.

They dont make any profits if no one is fighting. Look at the cost of these new aircraft that our military is wanting to bring on line. The costs get higher and higher and no end is in sight.

Google/U-tube Eisenhower’s speech in 1959 where he warned us to get these people under control or they would ruin America.

They are doing exactly what Eisenhower said they would do!

America was warned 52 years ago and still we have done nothing to stop them. We have only made the problem worse.

So, do you support a comprehensive test ban treaty, and/or giving our defense assets to the Russians?

I'll answer your question but I can't answer it the way you have framed it.

This article is written by NeoCons so it is mis-info. So you may want to frame it as "giving our defense assets to the Russians", but the actual language is "technology exchanges".

I understand that Free Republic is a NeoCon website and most here toe the NeoCon line. Those here that aren't NeoCons are usually Isolationists. But I am a pragmatic realist so I don't agree with NeoCons and Isolationists.

So last year I supported START with the "exchange" language and still do. Like wise all the prominent Realists gave support. And that included all the living republican ex Secretaries of State, to include Kissinger, Schultz, Baker, Powell, and Rice.

As for a test ban treaty we will have to wait and see, but I will note that the State Dept is claiming that, as it is written now, Kissinger, Schultz and Scowcroft have signed off.

Well, it looks like you've got handy pigeonholes for just about everybody, don't you.

Kissinger, Schultz, Baker, Powell, and Rice.

It would be hard to compile a list of five people I distrust more than that one.

That's because you are a NeoCon. You love that nation building stuff.
