Facebook to Tea Party: No more organizing
Daily Caller ^ | 6/2/11 | Kellen Giuda

Posted on 06/02/2011 10:28:59 AM PDT by ruralvoter

In February 2009, Alex Zablocki and I used Facebook to organize the New York City Tea Party, one of the first Tea Party protests in the country. Several thousand people joined our Facebook group, which we used to organize our first Tea Party protest. Hundreds of people showed up, we passed around a bullhorn, and we officially became “Tea Party organizers.” Without Facebook our rally would have most likely attracted about 20 people. Facebook was powerful and we knew it. Our next Tea Party rally, also organized through Facebook, brought 12,000 people to City Hall in Lower Manhattan. A social movement had begun. (snip)

Since then, this very important social organizing tool has changed.

Let me guess: Lefties can use Facebook for political organization purposes, but not conservatives.

Why not use Free Republic for events. I refuse to join another social network. I am on Free Republic and Facebook and that is it. It seems doubtful that this story is true anyway. Perhaps this is just to get some folks to join a personal website by the owner.

This is the same FB that was used to organize the extremist takeover in Egypt, right?

“And there are signs that Facebook is planning to take further steps to prevent political organizing and limit free speech on its website.”

Sounds like there’s a little First Amendment problem here...

FB didn’t start off that way. They can go back to being a small time deal. Just quit them.

I will.

No problem.

Blame your government.

The lack of clarity in election law has the corporate attornies worried.

Until the question, "What is a contribution?", is answered in stone, why should anyone take a chance on what it might be interpreted to be?

It would seem that FB people are making some sort of consorted effort to control the website that they own.

I have said before that FaceBook is a left-wing site. Conservatives need to start paying more attention to what groups that they are funding and helping grow.

Heck, thugs can use fb to organize “flash mobs” (a formerly hip and kinda amusing event) to go raid the local convenience mart or sneaker store and beat up non-blacks, and they’re worried about...Tea Partiers?

The First Amendment gives you the right to speak.

It does not force people to give you a platform and bullhorn.

It’s like FreeRepublic, if the boss does not like you using FR to promote libs and RINOs, the kitties are unleashed. Zuckerman’s doing something similar.

facebook is the 800,000,000,000 lb gorrilla. Alternatives are microscopic.

And 3 years ago, the Tea Party was nonexistent.

Zuckerberg can enable obama and the arab springforward/fallback orchestrators to his own regret.

Time for conservatives to move on. That ought to take some weight off the gorilla.

“Sounds like there’s a little First Amendment problem here...”

This would not be a First Amendment issue as the Framers somehow decided not to add the text “Facebook shall make no rules abridging the freedom of speech of it members.”

Not sure how they could have missed that one.

The “article” (more of a blog) reads more like a pimping for that “facebook alternative” than a real bit of news.

That being said - when his Facebook Killer social network gets into the millions of users, please ping me and I’ll check it out.
