Dressed in black jeans, leather jacket and crash helmet, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate joined tens of thousands of bikers in a rally honouring military veterans.
"It is certainly seen by those in the media as a godsend, as it will give a so far dismal Republican primary season a shot of excitement.
"However, the Republican establishment cannot be happy. They probably view her candidacy as a spoiler, as she has the potential to split their party's vote and ensure a Democratic win."
Mrs Palin is a paid contributor to Fox News and has her own reality TV show. She has written a best-selling book and draws large crowds when she appears at book stores, rallies and other events.
But establishment figures in the Republican Party believe Mrs Palin has been involved in too many political rows and soap-opera dramas to win the nomination.
Alongside Mr Romney, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and pizza entrepreneur Herman Cain lead the race.
Mrs Palin joined the riders in the Pentagon parking lot before heading to the rally on the Mall in downtown Washington.
"Nice to meet you," Mrs Palin told one fellow rider. "Thanks for doing what you're doing for the veterans."
"How do you wear all this leather and stay cool?" she asked another.
Mrs Palin's 'One Nation' road trip is the latest and biggest hint that the former governor of Alaska wants a shot at the Republican nomination to run against Barack Obama.
Scott Conroy, author of Sarah From Alaska, said: "Sarah Palin is someone who single-handedly turned the 2008 campaign on its head. She can draw a crowd of tens of thousands of people whenever and wherever she wants."

Gotta love Sarah, always brings her kids like I did in a very much smaller way:)Go Sarah.
I stand corrected. I was going by what someone else said on another thread, should have checked it out better.
No. Willow was not with them. Bristol, Piper & Todd were there. Piper rode with her Dad and Bristol rode with someone else. The girl that Sarah rode with was named Andrea.
That’s what some “news” organizations like AP and Polutico are still reporting, just like the news that she wasn’t invited to the rally.
“Is that a crash helmet?”
“Oh, I hope not!”
Back off there a few notches pirate, avast! LucyT is NOT to be man-handled for a PING, or for any reason. The wrath of Khan would be light compared to what awaits you.
Thanks for the heads up, I always like to know when I make a major blunder:)
Well done, LucyT.
Also -- didn't you mean "donkey" instead of horse?
Especially not a motorcycle.
Cheers!
Willow is that old?
Why did you feel the need to post that to LucyT? Is someone else using your computer?
Both sides' establishments fear her for the same reason. Which makes her all the more attractive, imho, as a candidate.
I thought Iwas the only one who thought ofher that way.LOL
It was a mistake, it is not Willow, AP reported it was Willow but it is a woman named Petrina Herman. FReeper Curth straightened me out on that. Sorry for the mistake.
Whatever.
I guarantee that whoever wins the Republican nomination will have also endorsed McCain against JD. That dog won’t hunt but if you insist on using nonsensical PDS talking points, so be it.
Hayworth was a terrible candidate who got demolished by a 24% margin as he was rejected by Arizona voters in the first election since they kicked him out of office. Your argument is disingenuous at best since nobody supported JD.
"If she became president, their hands would no longer be on the levers of power - and more importantly they would not have streams of government money flowing into theirs and their supporters pockets.
Excellent summary of what is wrong with Republicans right now. The Tea Party represents a major obstacle to the GOP. They have no fear of the wrath of voters and they look down upon the Tea Party and its supporters with elitist smugness.
Evidentally Dick Morris is about to release a book (got a call from his group today). In chatting with the lady, she indicated a LOT of people are gung-ho for Sarah Palin, quite contrary to what the corrupt media would have us believe.
Americans have had it with politicians (both parties) who line their pockets and portfolios and embed careers and benefits for themselves while, using Obama's sleazy verbiage, "operating under the radar" and/or having a globalist worldview (such as RINOs).
WOW...me too....LOL I’m wondering how prevalent this thought is?
while I am now a supporter
A "new" supporter should appreciate a "new" Sarah Thread pinger who said nothing negative, right?
If you didn't apologize to LucyT yet, maybe it's not too late.
I'm sure you're familiar with my public and private apology to a poster whom I misjudged. IOW, I practice what I preach.
Have a good day.
