As readers are likely aware, former Vermont governor Howard Dean is a contributor to CNBC, and in this role, he continues to say the darnedest things.

On Monday's "The Last Word," Dean said of the far-right, "They hate Muslims, they hate gays, they hate immigrants, and the rhetoric in the primaries shows that" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

HOWARD DEAN, CNBC: Let’s look at what these guys are doing. The far-right is what I call the Hate Wing of the Republican Party. They’re over-represented in primaries, and of course when elections come along, they generally don’t win. But they can cause enormous trouble in the primaries. They hate Muslims, they hate gays, they hate immigrants, and the rhetoric in the primaries shows that.

Honestly, is this the kind of talk Comcast and General Electric should tolerate from someone on their payroll?

I’m one of those far right voters. I know Howard Dean could care less about the truth, but here’s what I think about the groups mentioned:

Muslims: Islam in incompatible with individual liberty. Per the Koran, Muslims are directed to forcibly convert or subjugate the entire world and would kill off the next constituency, gays, if given a chance. I don’t really have a problem with nominal Muslims who are essentially apostate believers, but I’m understandably concerned about those who wish to kill or convert me. All people, regardless of religious faith or lack thereof, deserve to be treated with respect as fellow human beings.

Gays: I think homosexual sex is both unnatural and sinful, but that’s between homosexuals and God. I respect their right to engage in non-commercial, consensual sex in the privacy of their own homes. However, I’m concerned they want to silence my dissent and indoctrinate my children against my religious beliefs, and I don’t think I should be forced to pay for health problems that result from their high risk sex. I tolerate their behavior and treat them with respect even though I disagree with them.

Immigrants: I welcome with open arms anyone who want to legally immigrate to the United States with the intent to learn English, be self sufficient, and fully integrate into the American culture. Regrettably, we can’t permit the entire world to immigrate to the US even if everyone wanted to do the above. Therefore, there has to be a numerical limit on how many we bring here. It’s in America’s national interest to bring the world’s best and brightest here first.

Any time one of these propagandists make such a charge, I'd demand that they name names. Who are the "far right"? People here are falling into the trap of identifying as the "far right". I remember when Clinton said "talk radio" was responsible for the OKC bombing. He was forced to admit that he was talking about programs by the Michigan or Montana Militia on shortwave radio.
