A recent Gallup poll shows 53 percent of Americans support making gay marriage legal, Reuters reports.
The poll shows a significant change in mood on the issue from a year ago, when an equal majority opposed same-sex matrimony.
The latest Gallup findings, Reuters reports, are in line with two earlier national polls this spring that show support for legally recognized gay marriage has gained a newfound majority among Americans.
According to Gallup, Democrats and political independents accounted for the entire shift in its survey compared to last year, when only 44 percent of all respondents favored gay marriage, while 53 percent were opposed.
The percentage of Republicans favoring same-sex matrimony held steady at 28 percent.
While same-sex marriage remains a highly controversial issue, homosexual couples have won the right to legally wed in five states – Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Iowa. The District of Columbia has also approved same-sex marriage.
"The trend toward marriage equality is undeniable -- and irreversible," Joe Solmonese, president of the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement.
Maggie Gallagher, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, said the poll shows her fellow opponents of gay matrimony have been "shamed" into silence.
Twenty-nine states have adopted constitutional amendments restricting marriage as between a man and a woman, and 12 other states have passed laws to that effect, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

I don’t believe it...Polls have turned into a “mind control” tool.
Me neither. Nobody I know was polled. Everyone I know is against permitting sexual deviants from marrying -- without exception. It's an abomination and we all know how God deals with it.
People need to be educated about the gay agenda. In MA, Catholic Charities was driven out of the adoption business, because they would not go against their religion and adopt out to gays.
If 70% of the young cohort favor gay marriage, and if 70% of the young cohirt are Democrats, then Republicans and Conservatives are doomed in the long run.

Prop. 8 in Kalifornia was passed by 52%, and that was three years ago right? So this poll isn’t too off for Cali.
Now I recall that there are 30 some states that have some sort of no “gay marriage” language in their constitutions (I could be wrong about that), it would be interesting to see how much those passed by, and when they passed.

It would be interesting if they phrased the question this way...
“Do you support having the definition of marriage changed?”
or
“Do you support having YOUR definition of marriage being categorized as bigoted?”
or
“Do you support having your children being taught the NEW definition of marriage in their school?”
I guess because their bogus poll shows a majority in favor of this perversion then we, too, should be in favor of it. Well, I don’t care if 99% are for it. I’m against it and always will be and that’s all that matters.
Saying something a thousand times may make a thousand people believe it, but a steamin’ pile is still a steamin’ pile when you step in it. That’s reality.
Gallup Polls should not be looked at as “If this Gallup Poll is BS ..... Gallup Polls are BS. The questions are always formulated to illicit a predetermined desired response. Ergo you know the poll will say Americans favor Gay marriage because that is the desired result. It is what it is, something to be ignored.
I’m calling BS on this poll also.
In addition, I’m calling BS on Fox News for even reporting it.
In case anyone hasn’t noticed, we conservatives have added Fox News to the rest of the lame stream media that can’t be trusted with its gay agenda.
Whoever this “Maggie Gallagher” (alleged opponent of homosexual and Lesbian “marriage”) is, she needs to learn the difference between being “shamed” into supporting perverted “marriage” (even if one puts that in quotation marks) and being intimidated into silent assent.
I was thinking about this this morning. Almost every prime time show has gay characters, especially the shows pushed to younger ones.
I figured out the reason. With the general consensus to abortion, genocide, population reduction, etc......gays don’t breed.
Simple really. It works for the world view.

Because these polls of “adults” include approx. 50% people who are not even registered to vote.
Party identification percentages are not mentioned in the poll, though support for homo marriage by party is. At least I couldn’t find them. I’ll bet the % of self-identified ‘rats is way out of line. It always is whenever liberal results like this are obtained.
At any rate, what legitimate sense does it make to poll mere “adults” about a topic which is regularly put to a vote?
