Stealth Blackhawk Used In Bin Laden Raid?

May 4, 2011 By Glenn Pew, Contributing Editor, Video Editor

Images of what appears to be the tail-rotor of one the helicopters used in Sunday's raid on Osama bin Laden's compound at Abbottabad, Pakistan, are hitting the internet, and may be a glimpse at something special. The parts don't appear to come from the standard military catalogue. According to the Army Times, the aircraft "were a radar-evading variant of the special operations MH-60 Blackhawk." That aircraft has hard edges like those on the F-117 Nighthawk and incorporates similar low-observable technology.

Probably a bubble shield around the compound so nothing could be sent OUT. They would want to "capture" anything incoming.

We have so many geeks....so don't be too tough on that 7 year old that is "into" his computer. Just make sure he plays ball on weekends!!

CHINA

New-type military transport helicopter makes successful maiden flight

New-type military transport helicopterIn mid-February, the reporters learned from an army aviation regiment of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) that China’s first batch of new-type military transport helicopters had made their first flight successfully after they entered service.

According to Shan Yifu, deputy commander of the regiment, the regiment is the first troop unit to be organically equipped with the new-type transport helicopters. They will try highly-difficult subjects later on.

According to the Army Aviation Department of the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA, the new-type helicopter is a medium-size transport helicopter with great improvements in controlling, mobility, flight distance and flight speed comparing with the existing similar transport helicopters.

They can jam cell phones and wireless. There were reports that this compound had no telephone or internet service. I think they mean by land line.

If you strap a couple of turbofans to the fuselage, you can stop the main rotor in mid flight. See the Sikorsky S-72 X-wing.

The tail end?

I hate to sound like a party pooper, but I’m very angry about the loss of the helicopter. It reminds me way too much of the keystone cops comedy of errors of the the Iran hostage rescue attempt under Carter. Why or how was it lost?
Also, why tell everyone about the treasure trove of information found in the house? Why mention anything about it?

So the “unmarked helicopters” of XFiles fame have returned?

Nevermind.

Got my answer in a different article.

It was the tail section.

Whatever the Pakistanis get will end up in China. I hope it won’t do them a huge amount of good.
I don't think it will, other than to let the Chinese know we know how to make a stealthy helicopter. the French-made Gazelle has been using a similar tail rotor since the 1980's.

ABC News reported that ALL the residents of the city lost their electricity and cell phone service during the raid. (2:02 mark of the video)

Most likely , what he heard was the H-46 Chinooks.

CH-47 Chinook is a twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter, much harder to “Stealth” one of those ....

Had to look that one up. It looks like something out of a Japanese comic book. And all I can say is I want one!

Duh, I was in the air force for four years!!! I know what they look and sound like. Every effort to make them quite has a multiplying effect on loss of horse power and lift. In short they make the noise because they need to.

My question is what was the aircrew doing for 40 min....they should have been the ones doin the destruct.. From what I have read .. it was the SEAL team that pitched the thermite into the chopper on their way out ....

They said it hard landed, they were probably trying to see if is was flyable, until they ran out of time. The thermite was an anti missile flare, saw a plane bunt to the ground with one of those things dropped and it went off.
