There’s a lot about the White House’s account that doesn’t quite add up. I’m not just talking about the changing story that led spokesman Jay Carney to admit: “Even I’m getting confused”. The erroneous details that Osama bin Laden was armed (he wasn’t), that his wife was used as a human shield (she wasn’t), that his wife was killed (she wasn’t) can be put down to over-egging the pudding or, if you’re feeling generous, the fog of war.
What I’m talking about is the bigger picture of how bin Laden was discovered and who was killed in that compound. Don’t worry, I’m not a “Deather”. It seems incontrovertible that bin Laden is indeed sleeping with the fishes. But what about the others - the Sheikh Abu Ahmed, also known as Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti – his brother, bin Laden’s son Hamza and bin Laden’s wife?
This is just a hunch but it seems to me that a plausible conclusion to be drawn from the confusing and opaque mass of detail is that Abu Ahmed, his brother or bin Laden’s own son betrayed him and is currently being given a new identity as he prepares to collect the $27 million reward for the al-Qaeda leader’s scalp.

The completely changing details about the assault have me really wondering what really happened and why the double accounts and what may have been gained by changing the original account to the second account. They are miles apart from each other.

The only time a congenital liar lies is when he opens his mouth and speaks. People are so naive as to personality types. They do not understand that real evil exists and usually is cleverly disguised and every thing connected with a truly evil person you can bet your bottom dollar on will be twisted and evil at it's source.
If he didn’t have a gun or any weapon was it legal to kill him? He must have been trapped being on the upper floor. Why not bring him in alive. In our law even the worst criminal isn’t shot down like a dog when they are unarmed and have no where to go. I wonder what it may have been that they were afraid he would reveal. We should have taken him in and interrogated the stuffing out of him to get any possible information that we could have gotten out of him. A trial would have been justice drawn out and savored providing that he ultimately was put to death like Saddam H and Nazi war criminals. Killing him instantly was much easier for him than going through a long drawn out trial before being put to death would have been.
Panetta said they did not. THAT story keeps changing too. It is apparent from implication in most of the articles, that they did not watch it at all, and Obama etc, watched Panetta, or someone else, on a screen give updates.
Panetta told Lehrer neither he nor President Obama watched the actual shooting of bin Laden as it happened. Panetta spoke from CIA headquarters about the military intelligence operation that led to the al Qaeda leader's death.

Agreed. I hope someone in this administration is thinking about how to obscure how we got him so that we don’t compromise sources.
It's a war. "Our law" doesn't apply.
The Geneva Convention is more applicable. And, under the Convention, terrorists (or "illegal combatants") may be shot on sight.

I agree. I have not heard anyone echo or even mention this point. What American law allows someone to kill another unarmed person? When police officers do this there is always an investigation and sometimes charges are brought against them. Shouldn’t they have tried to taser him or subdue him before they executed him?

There was a whole long thread yesterday trying to prove just that. It was troubling. It also tried to prove that Free Republic just sucks today and isn't like it was in the old days.
It seems that there are some malcontents here that still like to post but don't seem to like anybody else's opinions.
Amen to that! I'm sick of it too. It's starting to wear as thin as the race card.
