GOP Boss Wants Trump to Shut up on Birther Claims
U.S. News ^ | 04/13/2011 | Paul Bedard

Newly-installed Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has a message for Donald Trump and other so-called "birthers": Shut up!

Priebus, who's starting to score some fundraising and organizational victories inside GOP HQ, having taken over for controversial former Chairman Michael Steele, says the debate over President Obama's birthplace and whether he can be president is a huge distraction away from the party's effort to fight Democratic spending and tax plans.

In an interview, we asked if he, like Trump, is a birther. "I'm not," says Priebus. "I believe that the president was born in Hawaii." [Read 10 things you didn't know about Reince Priebus.]

"I think that the entire issue gets me off track to what I really need to focus on which is how to beat him [Obama]," says Priebus. "And the reason I need to beat him is not because I'm the chairman of the RNC, or because I view this as some partisan endeavor that I'm on. I'm truly concerned about the future direction of our country. I'm very concerned about America. I'm concerned about the idea of America," says Priebus. "Look," he adds of Obama. "He's driving our country off a fiscal cliff, that's what he's doing."

Precisely why the Donald should be free to pursue this as publically as he wishes. Americans are fast to think where there is smoke, there is fire. Donald is fanning the smoke so more and more see it.

Apparently the old school pols know more than they are letting on and are concerned not only that such a revelation create a wave, they will be perceived as not having done anything about it.

I will not be surprised if nobama just up and quits when the water really starts getting warm. Hitlery is being way too quiet on all fronts, something is up or at least is being contemplated.

This is not good. Depending on how rude he was or how much he may have alienated DT, it could push him to run on a third party ticket for sure. I just pray he doesn’t.

I didn’t like that RNC creep from day one.

Reince Priebus: I never told Donald Trump to shut up

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53163.html

An RNC spokesman reiterated that Priebus had never said “shut up,” and was asked a question specifically about what he thought of the birther issue. Priebus made clear, as he has before, that he does not buy into to claims, repeatedly discredited by fact-checking and news organizations, that President Barack Obama was born outside the United State, and that he thinks the birther movement drags the party off-message.

No, it’s part of an incantation from the Necronomicon so for the love of God, everybody *quit* saying it!!!

The election’s a year and half away so the Dems don’t need the evil dead rising *already*!

I also think there is a very good chance that Obambi decides he “wants to spend more time with his family” in 2012, rather than run for re-election.

Why has the GOP allowed itself into being intimidated into helping hide what might be a serious problem with Obama’s qualifications?

Because there demonstrably is no problem with his qulifications, and birthism is a nonsensical distraction that hurts the cause of defeating Obama in 2012.

Spoken like a true Obama-defender. Let me ask you just one thing, curiosity. Do you side with far left liberals on ***every single detail*** regarding Obama’s BC issue? Or is there one point—just one—where you believe conservatives are right and moonbats are wrong?

Just ‘curious’.

You've got it backwards. I take the same position on the BC "issue" as Michelle Malkin, Glen Beck, Ann Coulter, and the editorial staff of National Review.

You, on the other hand, are siding with RINO Donald Trump, Hillarybot and 9-11 truther Phil Berg, and vicious anti-semite nutjob Andy Martin.

It's pretty obvious that it's you who's with the moonbats, not me.

Nice liberal talking points. Every single Obot troll on FR has memorized the list of conservatives, or pseudo conservatives, that agrees with their position. Coincidentally, Daily Kos, DU, HuffPo, and any and all other moonbat groups ALSO agree with those scattered few names you tossed out.

So why do YOU agree with Kos, DU and HuffPo across the board, when it comes to Obama’s eligibility??? Why do you agree with Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and every other hate-spewing moonbat of the left???

The question I asked was, is there one point-even one, on which you are not in lockstep with Kos, DU, HuffPo, Olbermann and Maddow?

Of course you agree with them on Every Single Point. So you will just retread your short list of non-moonbats, and hurl your tired old accusations. But go ahead and do it anyway. I enjoy hearing you say that HuffPo, DU, Kos, Olbermann and Maddow are the world’s bastions of truth and integrity, when it comes to Barry’s COLB.

How about this. Do you agree with Coulter that what the Muslims in this world need most is a hot shower and a conversion to Christianity? Yes or no?

Actually, that would be impossible, since that list would include virtually every single nationally recognized conservative office holder and commentator.

Actaully, off the top of my head, I can't think of a single nationally-recognized commentator or national office holder who embraces birtherism. Can you name even one?

Even Sarah Palin says she believes Obama was born in Hawaii!

So why do YOU agree with Kos, DU and HuffPo across the board, when it comes to Obama’s eligibility???

You cited Coulter as an authority. She says what every Muslim on the planet needs is a hot shower (to alleviate the BO) and a genuine conversion to Christianity.

Do you agree???

Of course! I disagree with them on virtually everything! I think public employee unions should be outlawed. I think the Wagner act should be repealed. I think Medicare and Social Security should be wound-down and phased out over time. I think we should abolish the income tax (both corporate and personal) and replace it with a VAT or national sales tax. I'm pro-life, and against gay marriage.

Is that conservative enough for you?

How about this. Do you agree with Coulter that what the Muslims in this world need most is a hot shower and a conversion to Christianity? Yes or no?

Sure, it would be great, though I'm sure Coulter would agree with me that it isn't particularly realistic to expect that to happen.

Everything but the VAT tax sounds fine.

However, we are still at loggerheads over the silly, stupid COLB image Kos posted. There are so many issues with it, a child would want to see the LF. The only people who don’t see the problems are liberals, RINOs, and insider Beltway Elites. As for Krauthammer, who even calls him a conservative? He favors abortion, fetal stemcell research, and a raft of other liberal issues. He used to be a liberal speechwriter, for crying out loud.

How about the TEA party, curiosity? Most are what you call ‘birthers’. I guess you consider them moonbats, too?

The so-called conservatives you listed are not, btw, the ones making farfetched, cool-aid drinking lame-butt excuses for Barry’s creepy COLB forgery. They just haven’t looked into it. All the excuses come from Kos, DU, HuffPo, Maddow, Olbermann, etc. [Notice I don’t call her Mad Cow. Nor do you impress me with your childish ‘Worldnutdaily’. Cite their errors, or stop with the puerile name-calling, please.]

As for talkers, you evidently haven’t been listening to Rush. He’s been coming around in a gratifying way since Trump joined the fray. Like many of us, he doesn’t consider Trump stupid. He figures Trump must have some damaging info, to be going where he’s going. In fact, Trump is scaring a lot of the late comers to the issue/party. They’ve caught a glimpse of how lame they’re going to look, when the lid blows off Barry’s fraud.

How about Howie Carr? He is a smart, seasoned reporter with training in ferreting out the truth. He’s gone full-on ‘birther’ [your word, not mine] lately. You should hear him mock Barry and his so-called COLB ‘facts’. It’s a riot.

Oh, but you would now call Carr a moonbat too, I suppose? That’s how you deal with anyone who disagrees with you—by calling them a demeaning name.

In fact, I’ve never seen you post anything persuasive on the subject. You just parrot the twaddle emanating from Kos, DU and HuffPo, etc. There is no explanation to cover Barry’s lies too bizarre for you to swallow. You probably think his father lived in CT, during the time Barry gamed his phony SS#, too, right?

If you are hellbent on drinking the moonbat cool aid, nobody can help you. I just note that, as a real conservative, the day I start agreeing with every far left marxist hate-spewing brain-numbed moonbat out there is the day I will check (1) my sanity, and (2) my political affiliation. Both will be highly suspect.

However, we are still at loggerheads over the silly, stupid COLB image Kos posted.

That image is not the only evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii. We also have official statements of Hawaii's outgoing health director and governor. We have a publicly available birth index showing an entry for him in 1961. There are the corroborating birth annoucements in the papers. Add in the fact that there is no evidence Obama was born anywhere else, and the case for him being born in Hawaii becomes overwhelming. Only an irrational individual who refuses to see the facts for what they are could come to the opposite conclusion.

There are so many issues with it, a child would want to see the LF. The only people who don’t see the problems are liberals, RINOs, and insider Beltway Elites.

So into which of those category would you place Jonah Goldberg, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Jim Demint and Pat Buchannan?

As for Krauthammer, who even calls him a conservative? He favors abortion, fetal stemcell research, and a raft of other liberal issues. He used to be a liberal speechwriter, for crying out loud.

Okay, fine, forget Krauthammer if he's not conervative enough for you (FYI, he's about as conservative as they come on fiscal and national security issues, despite his social liberalism). But he's not the only one. Virtually every nationally-recognized conservative commentator and elected official has come out against the Birther movement.

How about the TEA party, curiosity?

It's a mixed bag. Some of TEA party members are great and I wholeheartedly endorse. Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio are my favorites. Others, such as Michelle Bachmann and Christine O'Donnell, are blithering idiots who have done considerable damage to the conservative cause.

Most are what you call ‘birthers’.

Like I said, the TEA Party is a mix of smart fiscal conservatives and blithering idiots.

The so-called conservatives you listed are not, btw, the ones making farfetched, cool-aid drinking lame-butt excuses for Barry’s creepy COLB forgery.

Neither am I.

They just haven’t looked into it.

Yes they have. Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin have explicitly addressed and debunked many of the major birther arguments.

All the excuses come from Kos, DU, HuffPo, Maddow, Olbermann, etc.

You can also add the National Review, HotAir, and the Weekly Standard to that list.

[Notice I don’t call her Mad Cow.

I would. Maddow is a blithering idiot.

Nor do you impress me with your childish ‘Worldnutdaily’. Cite their errors, or stop with the puerile name-calling, please.]

The reason I call them that is because the garbage they publish has been reliably nutty over the years. Anyone who takes them seriously as a reliable source of information is as stupid or blind as someone who takes the National Enquirer seriously.

As for talkers, you evidently haven’t been listening to Rush. He’s been coming around in a gratifying way since Trump joined the fray. Like many of us, he doesn’t consider Trump stupid.

Yeah, I think it's pretty funny how Rush plays footsie with the birthers, throwing them a bone every now and then, but never explicitly endorsing them.

How about Howie Carr? He is a smart, seasoned reporter with training in ferreting out the truth. He’s gone full-on ‘birther’ [your word, not mine] lately. You should hear him mock Barry and his so-called COLB ‘facts’. It’s a riot.

Never heard of him.

In fact, I’ve never seen you post anything persuasive on the subject.

That's because you are not persuadable. You've already made up your mind that Obama isn't eligible and no evidence in the world will change it.

You just parrot the twaddle emanating from Kos, DU and HuffPo, etc.

Actually, I never get my information from them. I barely ever read them because I find them to be filled with, you guessed it, blithering idiots.

On birther issues, I rely mostly on the research of Dr. Conspiracy, LorenC, National Review, HotAir, and sometimes do a little of my own. However, before repeating a claim made by any of these outlets, I always verify that the information they have is accurate. Unlike birther blogs and WorldNutDaily, they always back up their claims with verifiable evidence.

There is no explanation to cover Barry’s lies too bizarre for you to swallow.

Really? Like what?

You probably think his father lived in CT, during the time Barry gamed his phony SS#, too, right?

First of all, there is no evidence his SS# is phoney. Second of all, I think the most likely explanation for the CT prefix for the SSN is that a bureaucrat at the social security administration mistyped his zip code. As Dr. Conspiracy has pointed out, if you change the leading "9" on his Honolulu zip code to a "0" (and mistyping a "0" for a "9" is a common error), you get a CT zip code.

Now I can't say for sure that's what happened, but it seems to be the most plausible theory. Have you got a better one?

If you are hellbent on drinking the moonbat cool aid, nobody can help you. I just note that, as a real conservative, the day I start agreeing with every far left marxist hate-spewing brain-numbed moonbat out there is the day I will check (1) my sanity, and (2) my political affiliation. Both will be highly suspect.

I must say, that's got to be one of the least rational statement I've seen anyone make on FR.

An argument stands and falls on its own merits, and its validity does not depend on who agrees with it or not.

No one, no matter how far left and how much of a moonbat, is 100% wrong on everything. Even broken clocks are right twice a day. Hence it is really stupid to reject something out of hand just because some lefty happens to agree with it.

On FR each day there are many eligibility threads. Every single one of the statements you made ‘proving’ Barry’s birth in HI has been debunked thousands, literally thousands, of times. There are people here on FR—I’ve pinged a few of them—who have the facts at their fingertips, and who post them repeatedly. Yet it’s all water off a duck’s back to you. You still buy the Obama-defenders/enablers’ lies, lock stock and barrel. If you seriously wanted the truth, you’d read the posts of some of the people I pinged. If you don’t want the truth, that still doesn’t justify posting straight Obama-cover-up lies over and over.

Obama has plenty of defenders right here on FR. Some would say he has too many. Why anyone would still be arguing we shouldn’t be allowed to see his original LF BC is beyond me. You will take the word of a pathological liar, but you’ll trash your fellow FReepers day in and day out. A strange, strange kind of conservative you are, I must say.

No they have not. Many birther Freepers have tried to (unsuccessfully) explain away the evidence. Usually they make up or uncritially repeat a factoid made up by some birther blog to try to argue against the vailidity of the evidence. More often than not, the factoid ends up being outright false.

There are people here on FR—I’ve pinged a few of them—who have the facts at their fingertips, and who post them repeatedly.

The problem is that what they have at their fingertips aren't facts, but false rumors that some other birther has literally made up.

You still buy the Obama-defenders/enablers’ lies, lock stock and barrel.

What lies, specifically? Are you saing it is a lie that Hawaii's health director explicitly confirmed his birth in Hawaii? Are you saying it is a lie that the Hawaii birth index has an entry for him in 1961? Are you saying that it is a lie that Hawaii newspapers published birth announcements based on information they received from the Hawaii Department of Health?

If you seriously wanted the truth, you’d read the posts of some of the people I pinged.

I've read the vast majority of birther posts on this forum, and I have found them wanting in terms of both logic and evidence.

Why anyone would still be arguing we shouldn’t be allowed to see his original LF BC is beyond me.

That's not what I am arguing.

You will take the word of a pathological liar,

I am not relying on his word. I am relying on multiple, independently verifiable pieces of evidence that do not depend on his honesty or lack thereof for their validity.
