DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.
House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

I think a lot of people on both sides needs a lesson in Civics..
Cause the troops would not receive their paychecks you twit..
I know lets vote for Turd party candidate like Alan Keyes and lose... Lets win by losing.. That seems to work.. NOT!!!
What is wrong the Losertarian Party or the Constipation Party??
You came on board FR in April and all you want to do is throw stupid bombs? Use some thought on this! This is the first real battle in a war that will last a decade and more. The abortion issue, in the end, will be determined by the prohibitive activities undertaken by state legislatures and not the federal government.
Not gunna happen. The RINOs are in charge and will fold like a cheap suit. FUJB.
That seems a little extreme if you are going to support the Constitutional conservative movement.
I knew that the Republicans would cave, I just did not know when.Anyone who doesn’t know that RINOs and Democrats walk lockstep and work hand in glove lives in an alternate universe. The Democrats play bad cop the RINOs play good gop. Working to gether, they keep us marching on the road to Socialism.
I agree with your assessments, my new FRiend. You have your head right.
Boehner did a good job salvaging a negotiation poorly started. For that I congratulate him. He got enough out of it that the pain of a shut down wasn’t necessary. That’s a good thing for the country. The votes on the riders will help us politically although they won’t pass.
Great thread.
I love you too.
The problem is that the Republicans are unwilling to pick ANY hill to battle over. They CAVED, pure and simple. If they caved on this, it emboldens the Dems to hold on in the next battle.
I was looking forward to having 2011 being a long series of skirmishes. If not the defunding of Planned Parenthood, then the National Endowment for the Arts. Every two week period, pick SOMETHING and have the Dems have to either defend it, or offer up an alternative to cut. Make them bleed week to week, have it carry on week after week of the public seeing the Dems unwilling to cut ANYTHING.
Instead, they caved. The people who support this now, I do NOT want to hear any whining from when they cave AGAIN over the 2012 budget.
How about your birfday?
Will you not invite any Republicans to your next birfday?
“This agreement between Democrats and Republicans on behalf of all Americas is a budget that invests in our future while making the largest spending cut in our history,” Obama said in a short speech to the nation after the deal had been announced.”Today Americans of different beliefs came together again.”
That is truly sickening!
Boehner did a great job. I can’t figure why folks are having problem with what he’s done.
First, he made the most important question in US history get center stage....the life of the unborn. We have 53 million dead babies on the national conscience and Boehner beat them on it.
FINALLY, there is to be a meaningful ABORTION vote in the US Senate (and House).
ADDITIONALLY, he has engineered another vote on Obamacare in the US Senate (and presumably House). Obamacare is ALSO a pro-choice document.
HE has defunded the IRS increase.
ALL OF THE ABOVE, costs money — big money on Obamacare and the IRS expansion — so the 40 billion he horsetraded up from the Democrats opening position of 4 billion must have added to it the impact of defunded abortion, defunded Obamacare, and defunded IRS expansion.
And Boehner accomplished all this outnumbered 2 to 1 in terms of the legislative process.
They did not have to give anything. They had the vote power to give him nothing.
And of course Obammie the scumbag Commie, the first affirmative-action president, is already taking credit for the largest spending cut in history.
A spending cut that is completely meaningless compared to our debt and deficit.
I’M DONE WITH THE GOP.
Lord knows I’m disgusted by the gelded party and it’s so called leadership. But to give them their due, they hit a single on this. Some things to consider:
1. The cuts they got, in a fiscal year that is already half over, was about double what the Dems wanted.
2. The planned parenthood thing does not change the status quo. But it does set up the fight on that for 2012.
3. A shutdown would not help the GOP in the longer term. The Dems were praying for it. On that score, it’s all about the unions. The Dems didn’t score the win on that.
All in all, the gelded party won a minor tactical victory and didn’t end up with a strategic defeat.
Excellent post and too well thought out. I suspect some of the Freepers having an aneurysm here would not have been happy with any deal, they would find something to complain about no matter what. Fact is we have a Democrat President and Senate and they would killed us long-term with a shutdown. We would have lost 2012 and then were would we be, much worse off. According to some here General Washington should have never left New York City, he should have stayed and fought and guess what the Revolution would have ended in the late 1770's with us still speaking with a British accent and flying the union jack. I read the deal and it;s not that horrid. Not every battle is Thermopylae , sometimes you need to compromise and yes retreat a little to win the war. Bottom line in the X's and O's category we are up 35-10 going into the forth and we just made the Democrats kick a field goal.
These little piddly billions of cuts is NOTHING, compared to what is possible with Ryan’s budget.

I tend to agree. Billions is now chump change. Real cuts should be in trillions.
He disgusts me and he needs to be on some kind of meds. Come on, WTF? What man cries that much over nothing? Sissya$$.
They said 100 billion, they got it to 88 billion

That’s a drop in the bucket. A billion is nothing. We deal in trillions now.
The House freshmen repubs, IMHO, need to vote a definitive NO to this and show they are not willing to cave.
