Earlier this AM CNN aired an exchange between a reporter stateside on the CNN set and a reporter in Japan.
The reporter in Japan was commenting on how calm and orderly everyone was while waiting in line at stores for water, food and gas.
He said that they had several full gas cans on their truck to get them where they were going and they felt comfortable leaving their vehicle unattended while going inside stores to buy food or to interview people.
He then compared it to his experiences during Katrina when their vehicle was completely looted of gas, food, water and even their personal gear and bags right under their noses.
He then said that the difference between the human response to the situation was almost night and day, the Japanese were very orderly and calm while the Katrina survivors were totally out of control.
I was amazed that CNN let him air such views. While completely truthful they show a side of our population we all know is there, but to speak of it, to even refer to it is viewed as racist...
After years and years of welfare, food stamps, free healthcare, black history month, there is an entitlement mentality that they are “owed” for having their great, great, great grandmother had to “endure” slavery. The poorest in this nation are better off in every way than those living in their homeland of Africa. But that doesn’t keep them from always bringing up the slavery issue. We all know about Selma, but then there’s Oprah. So, GET OVER IT and get a life. America doesn’t OWE you anything but the pursuit of happiness.

I don’t think it has so much to do with race as it has to do with civilized behavior.
The Japanese are a civilized people—outside of war.
Then, there are some people who are inculcated with values to act like savages, regardless of race.
You should see the white liberals where I live.
They make the blacks during Katrina look like the Japanese.
Reminiscent of the Tennessee floods or the Kentucky ice storm...the people just rolled up their sleeves and got the job done...no Obama/government wanted or needed...
I read on another thread a few days ago that there isn’t an equivalent word for “looting” in the Japanese language. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but maybe so.
The Japanese culture is quite different from ours, and in many ways they are much better suited to endure and behave honorably during a time of national crisis. I heard part of their PM’s speech this morning; among other things, he said he wanted to “emphasize individual reliance”. I think a substantial percentage of US citizens wouldn’t even understand what that means.
As far as demographics go, I think what we saw during Katrina is a culture of entitlement carried to its logical conclusion. As we see our entitlement sector trending ever closer to 35%, what we saw during Katrina will be what we may reasonably expect to see anywhere in America. I live in a region that has one of the lowest minority populations in the country. Yet, I can assure you, if we were faced with a disaster of similar proportions to what is facing Japan, God forbid, people would have to take precautions to defend their property and provisions. I guarantee there would be looting. Heck, if someone was driving around now, under normal non-crisis circumstances, with an open truckbed full of gasoline, food, and backpacks full of personal belongings, they would be robbed if they left it unattended.
Do a lot of people really believe that if they don’t live in a minority-populated area that they will be safe from the type of barbarism and thuggery we witnessed during Katrina? Not likely, imo. Just watch the videos of Wisconsin “protestors” for a preview.
You are correct. Sadly the New Orleans people went on to “tear up” Houston and a few other places.

I’m not so sure that this explains all of it. Life in Japan has always been pretty tough (no land, food, resources, some of the reasons for their actions in WWII), and I think the people are much better at working together and making sacrifices for each other than we are (but, of course, they KNOW that everyone will do their part). They don’t have much “diversity”, which “oddly enough”, IS their strength.
Peer pressure still works very well there also. Peer pressure (to enforce acceptable behavior in society) went out here sometime in the mid-60’s.
As someone who was in the suburbs of New Orleans for Katrina, lets make sure we know that it was the Democrat entitlement whores in the city proper that had their hands out. The so called bedroom communities surrounding it were completely different.

Doesn’t surprise me at all - in this context, they can pose it as anti-American and, by extension, anti-Caucasian.
Japan is what happens when you have UNI-culturalism, where most everyone shares the same values.
The opposite of that is division, conflict, and chaos—waiting for an excuse to happen.

Our problem is not diversity. We are psychologically balkanized .
I recall going on field trips with our daughters when they were in about the fourth grade. One ethnic group of children was relatively well behaved, and the other was loud and wild. Not racist, just a fact.
