Breaking: Wisconsin Dems throw their weight behind drive to recall GOP Senators
Washington Post ^ | 3/2/2011 | Greg Sargent

The Wisconsin Democratic Party has decided to throw its weight behind a nascent grassroots drive to recall a number of GOP state senators, a move that will considerably increase the pressure on them to break with Governor Scott Walker, the Dem party chair confirms to me.

"The proposals and the policies that Republicans are pushing right now are not what they campaigned on, and they're extreme," the party chair, Mike Tate, said in an interview. "Something needs to be done about it now. We're happy to stand with citizens who are filling papers to recall these senators."

Previously, Wisconsin Dems had not publicly supported talk about recalling GOP Senators, in hopes of privately reaching a negotiated solution to the crisis. The Wisconsin Democratic Party's decision to support the recall drives represents a significant ratcheting up of hostilities and in essence signals that all bets are off.

Eight Republican Senators are eligible to be recalled right now, and various groups around Wisconsin are beginning to file papers to make it happen. Tate told me that the party would throw its organization behind such efforts

"We're an aggressive, on-the-ground group and we're going to be looking to aid these citizens in any way we can," he said.

Tate said he couldn't say whether such a recall drive would result in GOP Senators breaking with Walker, given their solidarity so far, but he vowed that a number of them would pay the price by losing their own jobs.

If nothing changes, then sometime soon thousands of layoff notices are going to go out to Wisconsin state employees. Their jobs will depend on a budget being passed. My bet is, the fleebaggers return to do their duty, and their maggot supporters will hail them as heroes.

Given a choice between a 5% raise with a 5% layoff and the status quo, the union will always choose the raise and the layoff.

Unions aren't about jobs. They're about wages...and dues.

“In the current situation, unions would rather see even 20k layoffs than what Walker and the Republicans are proposing. At stake are the union dues the government steals from workers whether they want to be in the union or support its agenda or not.

This fight goes right to the financial underpinnings of the Democratic party and you can be absolutely sure they’d love it if this ended with layoffs rather than Walker’s plan.”

Agree. They can always try to get new members eventually- it’s much harder to get a law reversed.

At what point in time are the missing 14 going to be considered no longer residence of of their district or the State of Wisconsin?

It really irritates the daylights out of me that he want to follow some type of legislative process to recall the senators to achieve their goal. Yet, when the legislative process is being followed and the end result is not to their liking - they think it’s ok to run away, go awol, and protest that it’s not fair.

The democrats have steamrolled federal legislation over us for 2 years. Yet, when one piece of significant state legislation is about to go through, they act like they are being taken advantage of. The hypocricy is mind-boggling.

Good point.

As they say, nice guys finish last. The Dems play as if their very lives depended on something, Republicans often fret over “civility”, acting as if they are ashamed of their very beliefs.

For me, the Tea Party isn’t simply about Conservatism- it’s also about having that “BS detector” when analyzing what dishonesty the Rats are up to next. We’ll never really get anywhere until more people really understand what’s needed.

First thing the Republicans should pass are some anti-corruption/tampering with the vote laws.

- ID required to vote
- Must register 60 days prior to the vote
- Clean all voter roles of dead people and people who moved
- If someone votes twice 10 years in jail

This way when the rats cheat in 2012 they’ll have a harder time achieving the results they will need.

Wrong. Yesterday I listened to Wisconsin Republicans who are collecting signatures to recall three Democrats. They were half-way there.

great! i am glad to hear it... i've been at my parents' home the last couple of days... no internet connection... only thing i saw on any news channels were interviews with Charlie Sheen...

"Latina" means one thing in English but something else in Spanish.

Ever do a google.com search to see what comes up with "latina" alone?

You are right. What the Democrats are doing in WI is insurrection, and should be prosecuted as such. Why do the officials let these lawless people get away with it?

Fear, intimidation, bought-off. These unions and democrats are dangerous. It is a Mafia like machine working in all 50 states.

These are very powerful people. Recall the President of the SEIU was visiting the President of the United States 2-3 times a week, before he was awarded as CZAR position at the White House.
