Fox News should fire Glenn Beck; Speaker Boehner should denounce the birthers
By Brent Budowsky - 02/25/11 09:48 AM ET
Fox News should fire Glenn Beck because there are some "opinions" that should not be given prominence on a network that purports to be a serious news station. Beck has the right to express his opinions, but a publicly traded company that presumes to be a credible news network should not be aiding and abetting the spreading of hate using its shareholders' money on the public airwaves.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) should denounce the birthers clearly, unequivocally, immediately and unconditionally and should state, without qualification, that President Obama is a Christian and an American. A leader of one of our two great parties, and the leader of the whole House of Representatives, which is the true role of the Speaker, should not give one ounce of credence to the politics of lies and hate, or leave one inch of doubt that he condemns the politics of lies and hate.
There is weakness in the Democratic Party, for sure, but there is a cancer that is spreading in the Republican Party. The GOP should not allow Glenn Beck to be one of its loudest voices, and should denounce his hate. The Speaker should not treat the purveyors of hate as a valued part of his constituency, or a faction he is too fearful and timid to publicly and clearly condemn.
The president does not say he is a Christian. He is a Christian. The president does not say he is an American. He is an American.
What is happening in American politics is the cheapening of our dialogue and dishonoring of our democracy that combines the worst of the trivial pursuits of what is called cable news with the most extreme voices from talk radio and the Internet, and adding a partisan hunger for power that is extreme and dominates every other consideration in our political and media nation.
Personally, I am fed up with Republicans who preach or tolerate the politics of hate, fed up with Democrats who seem to have no higher values they will champion with conviction, fed up with cable news that treats politics like a forum for hate or a freak show with the latest babble about Sarah Palin and Donald Trump and the idiot nonsense that insider Democrats and Republicans who are out of touch with America tell each other at their insider lunches.
What they all have in common is that they disrespect their audience for their higher purpose of gaining power, making money, peddling the latest insider pittypatter without any serious discussion about the one-fifth of the nation that is jobless, the deadly crisis of the tens of millions who are hungry or the continuing cascade of those who are foreclosed upon and homeless.
I am going to have a lot more to say about cable news and the culture it breeds, and I will not spare Democrats or liberals. There are tens of millions of Americans who do not watch cable news because their voice is not respected, and the battle is only beginning for their hearts, minds and eyeballs.
For now, it is time for Fox News to fire Glenn Beck and time for Speaker Boehner to denounce the birthers, or Fox News will forfeit its right to be treated as a serious news network, and Speaker Boehner will forfeit his stature as a national leader for being too afraid to say publicly what he surely believes in the privacy of his conscience.
TRANSLATION:
1)- Glenn Beck has been very effective at uncovering the incestuous networks the Radical Democrats don’t want you to know about.
2)- The Birth Certificate Issue is really beginning to worry the Democrats, and their lib allies in the major media.
AFLCIO/SEIU has private offices at the White House. I hope Rupert Murdock digs in even deeper!
What a friggin idiot.
He makes all these outlandishly scurilous and specious claims withouth one scintilla of evidence or example of his vaccuous accusation.
Beck does what? He makes money for the publicly traded company he works for, which is exactly his job. Moreover, he gives voice to what a good many Americans already think and say.
Heck, I don’t even watch the guy’s show, just as I don’t watch whatever the shows are on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and even most shows on Fox.
However, your opinion is baseless and lame for its lack of evidence.
LOL, I love it. I do think it would help to add “LONG FORM” to the sign. It would be more informative that way. I think a lot of people who don’t tune in much think the certificate is out there. The one that counts isn’t, and that “LONG FORM” inclusion would alert them that they are being jobbed.
Great looking signs though aren’t they. Makes me a little misty... ;^)
He could of, at least, cited an instance of this so-called hate on the right.
Not even ONE citation? Accusation without substantiation?
He's the one who has forfeited his shot at credibility.
No, only publicly-FUNDED entities should be able to do that, right, Butt-ouchie?
But I have to say I'm happy to finally see a liberal show some concern for shareholders.
To attack the so called “Birthers” is to attack those that continue to support our constitution, and to attack our constitution itself.
No one has been able to improve our Constitution in over 200 years; even though many have tried to change it and /or revise it the last 33+ years.
We have been, and still are the greatest nation, with the greatest government that has ever existed. We do not need to fix that which is not broke!
“One Nation Under God” and “In God we Trust” and a Government by the people, of the people, and for the people”
is a Nation that will not, nor cannot fail!
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD: “ (Psalm 33:12a)
” Boehner will continue to get kicked around until he takes a less passive stance. Rather than saying he shouldnt tell us what to think, he should say he agrees with Obamas good friend Abercrombie,
that the documents should be released, thus putting the issue to rest. Put it back on Obama and his good buddy Hippo Mouth. That is the only way to stop the MSM badgering.”
Amen.
The Republicans should have long ago war gamed a universal response when they
( and not Obama ) are called upon to answer biographical questions
that only Obama could know.
The media doesn’t ask Obama to verify Boehner’s birth certificate or religion.
But, they don’t hesitate to ask Boehner and other Republicans to verify Obama’s biographical bona fides.
The Republicans should not be caught flat footed ,
as so many have ,
when they are put on the hot seat and bizarrely
asked to verify personal details about Obama’s life.
Details they couldn’t possibly be privy to , but, that doesn’t stop them from validating and vouching for Obama.
Questions about Obama’s personal life should always be directed to Obama.
It’s also interesting that Obama never chastises the media for asking strangers to explain his personal life .
Which would be a normal response.
As long as Republicans are willing to take the heat
that Obama should be taking , he can continue to
hide his sketchy background
behind their reputations for integrity.
I've been reading a few...
How much money would this fool spend to hid HIS past???
He needs to wake up & smell the coffee.
“Hitler abolished Unions!! Look At History!!”
Another ignorant stooge....
Hitler didn’t “Abolish” the Unions, he banned them, removed the leadership, and REPLACED THEM with “National Socialist Worker’s Party Labor Organizations”, with mandatory membership, and dues that went straight to the Party, much like SEIU has become.
Then, those Labor Orgs were used to hold corporations hostage to the NAZI agenda!!!!
Their fear is palpable, we must still be winning.
"Without qualification".....interesting choice of words. Should have used "without evidence" though.
I am going to have a lot more to say about cable news and the culture
HaHa Same here. If a tree falls on The Hill and no one hears it...
Yes he is - the "hate" and lies" from the haters and liars in their own words on videotape, audiotape, and transcripts of their speeches. Beck is just making sure he spreads their words to a much larger audience than the "groups" they origionally spoke to.
Love it! bttt
An embarrassment, please explain? No wrong or right answer.
