Commentators and politicians from the left and the right say Congress could take the next move now that President Obama's Justice Department has announced it will no longer defend in court the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)-- and it looks like a member of Congress from the left side of the aisle is the first to act.
Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California released a statement today saying that she intends to introduce legislation to repeal DOMA, which bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages.
"My own belief is that when two people love each other and enter the contract of marriage, the Federal government should honor that," Feinstein said. "I opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. It was the wrong law then; it is the wrong law now; and it should be repealed."

Does she realize the amount of tax revenue they will lose will be humongous?......
Full faith and credit is subject to regulation by Congress.
How, therefore, can DOMA be unconstitutional?

If any republican votes for this bill, their names should be taken down and voted out of office next election.
Start taking names.
The nation is sinking under the weight of it’s debt, and all Diane can think of to do is waste our government’s time on this s—t.
100% of the people will be adversely affected if the government goes under. 2% at best will be helped by her efforts on this topic.
And I’m supposed to remain civil?
This whole subject is stupid. I wish they’d just shut up about their bedroom habits. I don’t push mine on them; so I just wish they’d SHUT UP!!! (I guess earplugs are my best bet.)
It’s not really about marriage. It’s about getting ‘benefits’ from the government...
us taxpayers.
Focusing on jobs. I see.
now that President Obama's Justice Department has announced it will no longer defend in court the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
What is the point of repealing it if the president can just not enforce it like a tyrant?
Why now? Why didn’t they do this when the democrats had control of both houses? Too much to do, too little time? They must have expected to retain power.
These are godless democrats. The Holy Sacrament of Matrimony should never be abandoned. Where is the Pope on this? Why doesn’t he speak out and trash Obama? Where are all the bishops and archbishops and why are they not speaking out on this outrage.
Feinstein says “when two people love each other” they should be able to get married. A man and a boy?
Lost revenue?
She couldn’t care less. It doesn’t come out of her pocket and it does further HER agenda.
Besides, they’ll just print more money if they notice any shortage.
That’s what civil unions were meant for.
Just not meant to supplant marriage between one man and one woman.
They're focusing on this because they're getting killed over the unions and Middle East uprising issues. Classic bait-and-switch politics.
Its DOA in the House.
That is Odumbo’s intent Conservatives will be focusing keeping the family and marriage intact. While the conservatives are busy with that issue the other hand will be dealing with the courts regarding his birth certificate issue in the Supreme Court on march 4, 2011. Court battle brewing regrading the Judge Vinson Injunction, Obamacare Null and Void 26 Sates AG’s are blasting Odumbo. The oil morataium in the court system. Odumbo is unable to multitask - his hands are full in the courts and his budget has been ripped apart, and he has to deal with the issue on march 4 about the impending government shutdown. So he gives the conservatives to fight over an issue to distract them from all the issues that are going on. Increase the chaotic issues nothing is achieved, and more and more chaotic issues come into the picture. Odumbo is going crazy he will crack because as more issues come at him he will not be able to prioritze anything and he will himself become chaotic and he will start showing his anger and he will start to lash out and lo and behold people will see the true nutcase he truly is.
