But here's the deal: there were 15 pirates on that yacht, and at least some would have been below-decks or not in the line of fire. There's no way in hell a SEAL sniper team is going to get them all.
And not getting them all, means the hostages are dead.
That's just the facts.
>And not getting them all, means the hostages are dead. <
as opposed to what?
Oh .. they are dead anyway aren’t they?
These are the facts.
These guys train day after day after day to retake ships. It can be done and most probably without many casualties if any at all. That is their job, they work their tails off to do it and do it right.
So snipers in tandem with a raiding party can conceivably and in reality retake the ship killing or capturing the pirates on very short notice.
I’ll say it again. All we need is an administration with the will to permit it. We have the people. Not the administration.
Yes, I agree, there should be some sort of international anti-piracy agreement that would mean that all the navies of the signatory states would be free to attack and destroy pirates.
Since Obama’s Muslim brothers are making a nice income on piracy, however, I doubt that he’s going to do much to encourage this.
Distributing Bibles on their seafaring journeys was an additional, very heartfelt evangelical touch.

They captured two tankers of crude? It’s worse than I thought.
Somalia is more dysfunctional now than it was when we had troops on the ground there in the early 90’s.
I believe what we are seeing actually is Obama's plan of action.
LOL- just might work...
In reading the rest of the article on CBS news I found this.....
Last week a Somali pirate was sentenced to 33 years in prison by a New York court for the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama, a U.S. cargo vessel. That hijacking ended when Navy sharpshooters killed two pirates holding the ship’s captain.
This will cost US taxpayers 67.00 a day for a total of $804,000. (less he is done away with in detention).
If Obama does not authorize the Navy to summarilly execute those dirty Muslim pirates, it will show the world he is a WEAKLING...and probably an Islamic sympathizer.
Ill say it again. All we need is an administration with the will to permit it. We have the people. Not the administration.
To be sure, this administration is a total waste of space and air.
But you'll notice that nobody is following your advice here -- not the Russians, the Chinese, the French, the British -- nobody. And at least some of them do have "the will" to take action when it's possible to do so.
One reason is probably that doing so will cause the pirates to no longer take hostages, but instead to just immediately kill the people on the boats they capture.
Gee I guess that the boat being filled with Bibles had nothing to do with it or that the pirates had names such as Abdullahi Mohamed. No...I'm sure being Christian had nothing what-so-ever to do with the killing.
“One reason is probably that doing so will cause the pirates to no longer take hostages, but instead to just immediately kill the people on the boats they capture.”
Your logic makes no sense.
The #1 reason that the pirates are operating is for the payment of ransom, usually (but not always) for hostages.
No live hostages, no ransom. It doesn’t take much intelligence to understand that.
I will _guess_ that few or none of the pirates know anything about the operation of large vessels (such as the oil tankers they have captured). In those scenarios, killing the crewmembers would result in vessels that could not be controlled (at least by the pirates). So again, killing the hostages (at least at first) would make no sense.
Then why were these four killed?
Surely you aren't serious. If you don't know what is "wrong" with him by now, you must not be paying attention. I'm not trying to be argumentative here but it's pretty clear what the problem is. He hates Americans, he hates america and his sole reason for being, is to destroy us. How much more evidence does anyone need?
Snipers working in tandem are not going to risk a take down of 15 pirates on a moving boat with 4 hostages on it. If you think that is a feasible course of action, you must watch a lot of television. Even if the pirates were obligingly standing on deck in the open, it would too risky for any commander to green light unless there was imminent threat to the hostages. That's way too much lead to be throwing at a small area with hostages in it.
There was never a good solution to this scenario. It's as worst case as they come, and it ended badly.
If you want deterrent, we need to be merciless with these guys before or after the event. You can't shoot your way out of every scenario. Unless you want to do it in *every* scenario, and basically write off the hostages. There's logic in that, too, for the bigger picture deterrent value. American leaders haven't had that kind of stomach in a long time, though.
See my post 132. :)
I only made it part of the way through the posts. I should have known you were not clueless but honest to God, there are so many that are running around without a clue; sometimes even on here.
Kill some of the Kenyan's cousins. Then he'll nuke them.
