Looters broke into the Egyptian Museum during anti-government protests late Friday and destroyed two Pharaonic mummies, Egypt's top archaeologist told state television.

Looting mobs DESERVE the tanks and machine guns.
Idiots!
The anthropomorphic Sphinx will be a much more likely target of the iconoclastic muzzies...much like the Bamiyan Buddhas were in Afghanistan when the Taliban took over.
That is as dumb as the looters in South Central torching their own neighborhood stores during the Rodney King riots back when.
You would think Egyptians, of all people, would be culturally attached to these antiquities.
I guess not and it is truly a tragedy.
Very sad.
But not as sad as what will happen within a few days when food can’t get in the city.
I think we also need to keep in mind that some of the “looters” might be museum staff. Antiquities are worth a great deal of money on the black market and such unrest is perfect cover for theft. If I remember correctly, this is what was discovered to have happened to the Iraqi museums.
Islam is a disease upon mankind, a vile, barbaric, perverted, gutter ‘religion’ that needs to be wiped off the face of the earth.
They disfigured the Sphinx and tried to tear down the pyramids as well.
The Muslim Brotherhood has said they will destroy the ancient monuments because they are un-Islamic.
To fundamentalist Muslims there is no history prior to Mohammed & the Koran!
Since the UN has declared the Egyptian antiquities to be cultural treasures of all mankind, I wonder then if the UN will send a very strongly worded note (as opposed to only a strongly worded note!) objecting to their destruction?
It is a good thing that Zahi Hawass was unsuccessful in getting Germany to return the bust of Nefertiti. Losing that to a mob or looters would be kinda like losing the Mona Lisa.
The story that the destruction of the Alexandrian Library was ordered by Caliph Umar in AD 642 apparently dates from the later Middle Ages and is probably a myth. The library was likely a victim of efforts begun by the Roman Empire's Christian rulers in the late fourth century AD to extirpate paganism and may have long ceased to exist by time the Muslim warriors showed up in the seventh century.
That stuff is isn't really that old and is over rated...If ya want see some *real* old stuff, look at rocks, or for that matter the sun, but use proper filtering.
We were to leave on a tour of Egypt yesterday. I had bought
a Dr.Hawass hat at the King Tut exhibit in NYC to wear.
Did you forget a sarcasm tag?
True, but they make good targets, just hope their army is up to the job.
I doubt even the muzzies can destroy the pyramids.
"Keep your filthy hands off of my damn mummies!"
Well, if looters broke into my house to harm my Mommie, I’d shoot’em dead!
