The BBC is reporting that Egyptian Army tanks have allegedly surrounded the embassies of the United States and United Kingdom. This comes after Israel evacuated its entire embassy staff via helicopter. This is coming in through their live blog, and further details appear scarce. The BBC is quoting an al-Jazeera cable:
2125: Tanks have surrounded the US and British embassies in Cairo, Al-Jazeera reports.
This could be a huge, huge problem. This is similar to 1979 when the Islamic rebels took the US Embassy and held hostages for 444 days.
“The only reason they were able to occupy our embassy in Iran is because they realized our guards weren’t going to start shooting.”
Well that and they knew our leader at the time was a pathetic weakling who wouldn’t do more than wring his hands.

So far, all I’ve heard indicates that the demonstrations involve the people of Egypt and their government, with the security police having taken the most action against the demonstrators, and the army more trusted by the people.
Haven’t seen reports that foreigners, tourists or government officials are being targeted.
Someone said IDF got their people out and checked in with our embassy. Are our people out of there, do you know?
I wondered the same thing! I was watching the live report via aljeeria, or what ever it’s name is, and the people were cheering on the military.
I also saw the military men that were standing out of the tank entrances waving flags.

It is always once it starts, where will it stop. Your report is comforting. I believe the time to move our people out is a door closing at this point. If the door is not already closed, our people should leave and leave now. Staying inside Egypt, at this point, invites more trouble and less safety for those there....imho
Israel was smart enough to get her people out.
Israel needs to retake the Sinai now.
How about a quiet reminder to the Cairo regime that the hated Jews have the Aswan High Dam in their nuclear gunsights? And that if the Muslim Brotherhood takes over Egypt and chooses to attack Israel, that breaching the dam would result in the mother of all toilet flushes and the end of Egyptian national viability?
