Boxer to Introduce Common-Sense Concealed Firearms Act of 2011(Barf Alert)
yubanet.com ^ | 22 January, 2011 | Sen. Barbara Boxer's office

Washington, D.C. January 22, 2011 – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today announced that next week she will introduce the Common-Sense Concealed Firearms Act of 2011, which would require all states that allow residents to carry concealed weapons in public to have minimum standards for granting permits.

Senator Boxer said, "The tragic events in Tucson earlier this month are a reminder of why we need common-sense gun laws. This measure will establish reasonable permitting standards for Americans who wish to carry concealed firearms. According to a recent poll, more than 60 percent of respondents believe there should be a reasonable permitting process for those who wish to carry concealed firearms."

Senator Boxer's legislation would require all states that allow residents to carry concealed weapons to establish permitting processes that would include meaningful consultation with local law enforcement authorities to determine whether the permit applicant is worthy of the public trust and has shown good cause to carry a concealed firearm.

Currently, two states do not permit residents to carry concealed firearms, while three states, including Arizona, allow residents to carry concealed firearms in public without a permit. The other 45 states require residents to obtain permits to carry concealed firearms, but the majority of these states would not meet the standard set in this bill.

Senator Boxer plans to introduce the legislation when the Senate reconvenes next week.

meaningful consultation with local law enforcement authorities to determine whether the permit applicant is worthy of the public trust and has shown good cause to carry a concealed firearm.

Infringement by any other name is just as unconstitutional.

“But nobody needs these high capacity massacre-makers.”

I wonder if they include police in their "nobody needs etc." category.

Those are good. I think you’ve somewhat missed the boat because yours actually have at least a thread of connection to the issues you raised. The Democrats often don’t.

marktwain was complimenting Barbara Boxer, not being rude to her as you stated when you said, “Stupid is a compliment when you speak of Barbara Boxer.”

Of course not.

But the visual attack ads against RINOs will be too hard for them to resist. Any RINO who stands against a mag ban will be shown between Cho and Laughner as a psycho killer.

“Congressman Schmuck agrees with Cho and Laughner that anybody should be able to buy a 33 round magazine.”

WE’ll be lucky if we get to keep the mags past 10 rounds that we already own. New mags past 10 rounds will be illegal to make, buy or sell in just a few months. Bet on it.

Trav, are you now into manufacturing hi-cap mags and trying to get a buying frenzy started? I’ll take a case.

Politically you always need a thread of truth in everything thrown out. Take “The affordable health care act”. Well, it's related to health care isnt it? maybe just not affordable.

and has shown good cause to carry a concealed firearm.

This ploy has been used by hundreds of anti-gun chiefs of police in MA to deny issuing any CCWs.

Reasonable? It’s pretty unreasonable in Nebraska already if you ask me. $175.00 for the mandated class to teach what any idiot should know about guns, plus another $100.00 to apply for permit.

Nope, got all I need. But I think the grabboids will be smarter this time, and pick off mags, and not go for a big AWB type bill. They’ll peel off high cap mags, with no sunset, and they’ll do it with RINO votes. Our brave RINOs will not be stand being compared to Cho and Loughner, photo by photo. I think this is 100% certain. RINOs who vote against the mags will say, “We’re not coming after your gun! (Just those evil massacre making mags.)”

I think Mr. Loughtner DID have a conceal carry permit.

Oh no seriously?? That's not good...

Negative on the CCW permit for Loughner. Arizona has recently gone to universal carry. That means anyone over the age of 21, without a criminal record or other disabling reason, may carry concealed or open, their choice, without permit.

Those who wish to get a permit may still go through the classes, and be eligible for reciprocal carry permits in other states.

Loughner had not gone the permit route.

Thanks for the info.

I wish we had a universal carry. Will never happen here in Cali.

The way I see it, CCW’s is an attempt at national registration. Do not surrender your prohibited hi-cap mags. Disassemble them. Spread the parts and pieces through out the house and property. Get them out of the safe or gun closet.

I don’t know if they’ll go for a total ban including existing mags. It would be much easier to pass a bill outlawing new manufacture, import, buying selling etc.

If they tried to outlaw possession, including the ones we own, they’d be creating millions of well-armed felons overnight. They might not want to take that step.

Or, they might.

Now I'm even more confused. I think you are reading something into my comment that simply isn't there.

I was originally commenting on what the Article said, not what marktwain said. I could only respond to post #1.

The horse is dead, so let's stop beating it.

“But “high cap” mags over 10 rounds will be banned by 2012 and forever after. Count on it.”

I think you are a bit over pessimistic. How about a friendly wager? If such a bill passes by 1 January, 2012, I will buy a case of your new book, Castigo Cay. If it doesn't, you ship me a case of autographed copies for free.

Seems like a win-win to me. We could have B4Ranch or another prominent freeper judge who wins.
