China may have bought parts of US F-117 Nighthawk shot down over Serbia in 1999, say experts A Chinese stealth fighter jet that could pose a significant threat to American air superiority may borrow from US technology, it has been claimed.
Balkan military officials and other experts said China may have gleaned knowledge from a US F-117 Nighthawk that was shot down over Serbia in 1999.
"At the time, our intelligence reports told of Chinese agents crisscrossing the region where the F-117 disintegrated, buying up parts of the plane from local farmers," said Admiral Davor Domazet-Loso, Croatia's military chief of staff during the Kosovo war. "We believe the Chinese used those materials to gain an insight into secret stealth technologies ... and to reverse-engineer them."
The Nighthawk was downed by a Serbian anti-aircraft missile during a bombing raid on 27 March 1999. It was the first time one of the fighters had been hit, and the Pentagon blamed clever tactics and sheer luck. The pilot ejected and was rescued.
A senior Serbian military official confirmed that pieces of the wreckage were removed by souvenir collectors, and that some ended up "in the hands of foreign military attaches". Efforts to get comment from China's defence ministry and the Pentagon were unsuccessful.
Parts of the F-117 wreckage, including its left wing, cockpit canopy, ejection seat, pilot's helmet and radio, are exhibited at Belgrade's aviation museum. Zoran Milicevic, deputy director of the museum, said: "I don't know what happened to the rest of the plane. A lot of delegations visited us in the past, including the Chinese, Russians and Americans ... but no one showed any interest in taking any part of the jet."

Ping!
I has just assumed that the clenis and al gore gave it to them in return for a big juicy campaign contribution for al gore in 2000.
Then there was the “accidental” bombing of the Chinese embasy right afterwards...
I would be much more inclined to believe that the technology was handed to them freely by our government in exchange for more loans.
The Chics only great contribution to society is thievery. Why create when you can steal?
The key component the Chinese would really want from the F-117 is the paint. Outside of the desgin the The premise is plausible.
And guess who made the engines...GE!
Seems like the joys of Free Trade Communism just keep on giving...to the Communist Chinese
More likely this story is a plant to distract attention from those responsible for giving the Chicoms US military/defense technology - The Clintonistas and others affiliated with the current regime.
I expect to see the Chicoms quickly make great strides in their stealth and other capabilities thanks to the help of their fellow travelers.
Probably ordered that F-117 to crash where the Chicoms could get to it.
May use...? No doubt about it for me.
Clinton did order that they fly the same route at the same time every night on their way to the target sites (the reason given was to avoid 'sensitive airspace').
Once our opponents inevitably figured this out they simply blindly saturated that volume of airspace with antiaircraft fire.
The usual protocol for a downed stealth aircraft is to either recover every scrap, or bomb it into powder and ash.
Guess who forbid bombing the crash site? (to prevent collateral damage to 'innocent civilians', of course)...
May?
It’s just starting...just wait ‘till GE gives away engine technology.
That slimy CEO would even sell Obama to them if he could.
Hey, wait.......perhaps.....
The Chinese (who else?) taught the Serbs a stunt employing 800 MHz "skyglow" from the backscatter from thousands on thousands of cell phones, to see the F-117 silhouetted against the glow. Not sure how they managed terminal homing, but with most AA missiles, you don't need a direct hit.
I wouldn't be surprised at anything that Judas named Bill Clinton did.
One word: Arkancide. When Sarah is elected, I sincerely hope the FBI will finally start investigating the Clintons. They left corpses, cash, and coke all over Arkansas -- somebody knows something.
Duuuh!!...
Freepers got to get it out of their heads that only the Clinton admin gave tech to Red China. Free trade and short term self centered corporate CEO educated by ivy league schools that nations are obsolete are the ones who gave China the tech and manufacturing capability to upgrade the PLA. Congress under lobbying by corporations looked the other way. Example will be Sen Schumer and Cong Pelosi. Today they are bent out of shape about Chinese policies yet they are the ones that empowered them with free trade, WTO and etc (Wall Street and San Fran is financial center for Pacific Trade/plus Silicon Valley need low wage Chinese parts/H-1B workers) It has been going on since Bush 41 and continuing still today.
When Boeing let China build parts of US jets they acquired composite technologies and fly by wire technologies. When Apple, Intel and etc let China manufacture PC boards, that is hardware for PLA equipment, when Microsoft and other network firms set up in China and train workforce there is your tech base for software to operate the hardware in the PLA.
This song and dance had been played before with Imperial Japan when US companies sold all the scrap metal for profit only to have it returned in the bodies of our soldiers and sailors via high explosives. We are repeating it today except at a wider and larger scale as our corporate elites don’t give a damn about the US.
Figures
And don’t forget when Lt. Shane Osborn, who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for “heroism and extraordinary achievement,” personally delivered one of our EP-3 aircraft to China. May not be stealth technology, but they weren’t going to pass up the treasure trove of sophisticated electronic gear inside.
A plane that was shot down and recycled constitutes “U.S. technology?” I don’t think so...
I vividly remember George Bush sr. approving the sale of IBM mainframe computers to Red China, during his administration.
