China's rapid growth is often painted as a threat to American interests. But President Obama said today that the country's economic progress benefits the United States and opens the door to greater international stability and humanitarian progress.
"We welcome China's rise," Mr. Obama said at a press conference at the White House with Chinese President Hu Jintao. "I absolutely believe that China's peaceful rise is good for the world, and it's good for America."

Make that:
“what you can do for your country!”
whoops
He is not in great company, must be our eyes and ears.
“I absolutely believe that China’s peaceful rise is good for the world, and it’s good for America.”
China is nothing more than a slave state. And this is good? It’s nothing of the sort. It’s not good for us or the world.
That wasn't very civil of Obama to mock the Chinese ability to pronounce the letter "L".
And in celebration we will provide a green bowling shirt with every government health insurance card.
We welcome 2012.
This man is destroying a great country...hurry up 2012
LOL I have heard that. I have also heard that unicorns excrete Skittles.
These guys posting above remind me of your old PRC buddy with whom you had vigorous discussions.
One of them is a ChiCom troll who has managed to avoid the zot for a long time. The other one is new to me. Perhaps some of my old ChiCom troll hunting buddies know of him.
And FR doesnt care that they post their pro-communist propaganda.
There seems to be no inclination to do anything about them in the last couple of years.
I’d like to take a moment to say how much I despise this cretinous, jackass bastard son of a communist drunkard father and some jacked up, true believer Stalinist reprobate of a mother. (spitting)
Speaking recently at a forum in China, Jackie Chan said that people need to be controlled.
"I'm not sure if it is good to have freedom or not," he said. "I'm really confused now. If you are too free, you are like the way Hong Kong is now. It's very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic."
He added: "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we are not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."
Yeah just like he said to Joe The Plumber “redistribution of wealth is a good thing for everybody”
Don’t forget Nixon.
Is he just surrounding himself with YES SIR people who tell him how wonderful he is?
because I think he needs to buy a clue and figure out how much the rest of us disagree with him.
Was 2010 not a wake up call for the socialists? Or is he just acting as if it never happened and going full steam ahead with the wholesale destruction of our country?
Eyew...Babs was there?
That's true, and also Carter. I'm don't recall what might have happened during the Reagan administrations, but Carter is the one who moved US recognition of the rightful government of China from Taiwan to the mainland. And Carter also hosted Deng Xioping and signed the accords that really started US/China relations.
But the one-sided trade relationship really took off under GHWB. And it was GHWB who quickly sent word to Beijing that the unpleasantness at Tienanmen Square would not affect US/China relations. Then Clinton delinked relations with China from human rights considerations.
All presidents since Nixon have moved this stupidity along, with the qualifier that I don't recall just what happened during the Reagan years.
Nah, I don’t know them, and yeah, it seems like the ChiComs started getting a pass right after they flooded FR in the aftermath of the big earthquake a couple of years back.
“We (communists) welcome China’s rise...”
