A leading civil rights leader in Congress believes the Democratic Party is losing too many white voters.
In an interview, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said Democrats need to "go all out" to win back white Southern voters before the next election.
White voters preferred Republican candidates by almost two-to-one in the midterms last year. Their support helped the GOP win 22 seats in the states that make up the Old Confederacy. The Democrats' only pickup in the region was the New Orleans district where the party holds a registration advantage.
Since November, there have been a string of defections by Southern Democratic state lawmakers, which has prompted renewed speculation about the party’s future in the region. Former Alabama Rep. Artur Davis (D) said Democrats should even consider running as Independents if they want to succeed.
Lewis, who was a civil rights activist before being elected to Congress in 1986, said he's concerned the party is losing its diversity, which will make it difficult to reclaim the lost seats.
"We've got to go all out and get white voters, especially white men, to come back to the Democratic Party," he told The Ballot Box. "I just think it's important for the Democratic Party to roll out and try to reveal itself and not become a party that is split along racial lines."

Or maybe the Dems ought to ‘go all out’ to change their agenda to be more US friendly? That would go a long way to winning back middle class voters of any color or persuasion.

Maybe it’s because we’re tired of being blamed for all the evils of the world and everybody else’s problems...
...tired of being berated and feminized and told we have to be “sensitive” and “tolerant” of what is intolerable...
..tired of being berated and told we’re “homophobic” because we don’t agree with abnormality...
...tired of being called berated and called “racist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” because we don’t think anyone should get any particular or special breaks just because of skin color...

...tired of watching OUR ancestors, our heroes, our culture, and our heritage being systematically denigrated, debased, subsumed, spat upon, and otherwise erased so that something much, much less can replace it, thereby dumbing down OUR future generations until they no longer remember, nor know, nor understand what words like “Duty, Honor, Country, Courage, Loyalty, Faith” mean...but hey, look on the bright side...they will know why “Tommy Has Two Mommies” and why it’s “OK”...and they’ll have LOTS and OODLES of self-esteem while they stand in the unemployment line because they can’t do basic math nor read...

That brings up a good point. Looks like Obama is doing well with the white homosexual voters, it's just the heterosexuals he is having problems with.

I doubt it. Those remaining are probably committed statists, IMHO.

This independent problem returns Democrats to their white problem. Most non-aligned voters are white. White males constitute the plurality of independents.
It's some of the independents and moderates who are up for grabs. Do a keyword search on 20xxexitpoll where xx equals 06, 08 and 10. I posted those articles.
Independent voters can be a majority of voters, e.g. Massachusetts. Usually, they vary between 20+ percent and 40+ percent, depending on the state.

More to the point, the younger generations of white males have been discriminated against by affirmative action, both in college and in the workplace. Now the job market sucks, and it will REALLY stick in a guy's craw if he's unemployed and gets passed over in favor of others for PC reasons.
From past experiences, the Republicans cannot get a large percentage of the black vote.
And any attempt to court the black vote by turning into Dem-lite will cause the Rep base to stay home, costing more than the black votes gained, and they STILL won't get large numbers of black votes. It's a losing proposition.
That should work.
Same principle as when you're in a foreign country and they pretend they don't understand English, you just repeat yourself, but louder.
John Lewis is whistling “Dixie.” He can lament the Democrats’ loss of power in the South til the cows come home but as long as the national Democratic Party is as it is, the Democrats will remain a minority in Southern politics.
Deal with it!
