Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Just the fact that the boot marks were so evident is evidence in itself. Were the boot marks wet?? Snow and rain for the whole last week of December.
I agree the tape was placed in the kitchen for "caution" purposes.
If John's house was a crime scene....They would have blocked off the entire property.
John Wheeler also had a home I the DC area according to reports. Since the Manhattan apt was searched I wonder if the DC home was searched?
If I was an investigator trying to retrace his steps, I would want to know if he stopped by the DC home after he left MITRE.
CHheck the earliest reports (before Biden placed a gag on the information) The first warrent was issued for the house by local police. At that time the floor boards were removed for evidence and the workboots (larger than Wheelers’s feet) were noted. IIRC this was on the 31st when the body was first found.
The removed floor boards IS NOT a result of workmen, but police.
That is entirely supposition, not based on any facts. Please stay with the facts.
They are not going to remove that large of a piece of the floor unless there is something there they can use as evidence. Otherwise they would just take a picture of it.
Mitre has given out no information.
I'm pretty sure everyone at his Mitre meeting would have been engaging in small talk...Hey, John "What are you doing New Years? etc...Also, the Army game was on the 30th.
IIRC, weather was kinda nasty all over the east coast and with the new "Spence the cabbie" info, it looks like he stayed in DC until the morning of the 29th.
Read this entire thread and all of the others. There are people who live in the area and have repeatedly said that the pharmacy/plaza where he went was a 10-15 minutes walk from his house. It is also on the route 15 bus line.
There is a picture of the house...Yellow tape is still around the house or was last week. It IS a crime scene. You need to read information off this thread. There is a lot out there that would clear up your misconceptions.
I have read conflicting reports. Most say something like ‘pictures show floorboards have been removed.’ Some say the cops removed the boards. Some say the boards were already removed.
Boot marks were listed in findings of the first warrent on the house on the 31st. That and the removal of floor boards for evidence. THAT Material has been pulled from the public when Biden issued the gag order. You might want to look at some of the oldest thread on the subject. Type in “wheeler” in search and look through them. Lots of material not covered on this thread.
I should add I realize all I can do is speculate and I put no special weight on my own opinion. God help us all if I did. :)
Was ‘on’ all this while story initially unfolding - and postings; but then travel and major computer problems and fogot about it all, until latest postings. Yes, want to go back and see more info/per timeline etc. But clearly, a lot of homework going on here at FR./ ; ^)

I want to see an official report stating the house is NOT a crime scene.

Wish I could get onto the Philly news reports. Lots of references to them, but when the link is clicked nothing is there.
I wish I had the time to play detective. My role here must be limited to pinglist operator to make sure many of us stay on the case. WestCoastGal, Sacajaweau, hoosiermama and brityank are avidly following the case details, as are several other FReepers.
Also, the excellent columns by Radell Smith of the Examiner have followed the case from the beginning. Smith posts links to her earlier columns on the Wheeler case at the bottom of each of her latest articles.
I'm just operating the pinglist, as I have a job and two other time-consuming roles to deal with. Several of the FReepers avidly discussing on these threads seem to be from Delaware and are more familiar with street locations, etc. My main concern is seeing that any published news and viable speculation stays out in front, so that FReepers can stay on top of the case.
I hope any of you who are vitally concerned with the horrible death of this extraordinary patriot will contact Newark authorities and/or the FBI if you have any truly worthy tips out of this discussion. But please do not burden them if you have no real facts to back up your assertions.
