Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

bump
It has been said that there is a view from the drive through window but I doubt the employee spent his time watching the dumpster.
It is a strange parking lot but today at noon there were no vehicles anywhere near the dumpster. The exit from that part leads to a one way street that was also absent of traffic at noon.
Was hunting for other material this morning...So much is no longer there.
Thanks to all posters. BUMP for John Wheeler.
BTW, here's something I posted earlier today.
Judge Janine on FOX had a segment on this evening dealing with how far behind the crime labs were. Emphasis was on rape cases/dna, but it COULD be applicable here. Are they waiting on lab reports?

FWIW, I found this online...

Can’t say if it’s correct or anything.
Ridiculous.
They do it all the time in different cases. In this case, that's a piece of information that's very, very valuable for the to keep unreleased. If they release it, I'll start to wonder if they might not want to find out what happened and get a conviction!
Thanks. Looks like he could have used route 15. From the picture of the park/his house on the other thread, he would have had to walk a bit from any public transportation.
WOnder if they’ve searched the river for his brief case!
In that area, it's actually an estuary with a highly reworked very muddy bottom (Sommerfield and Madsen, 2003). (In some places through there, the bottom sediments actually migrate "upstream" because of the tidal action.) It would likely be very difficult to find a briefcase, so I imagine they haven't done that unless they had something pointing toward that possibility. If not weighted down, it could have floated a long way.
Interesting speculations; especially that he never actually made it to New York and the wife (and presumably the investigators) would keep silent about that. Do you want to be on the pinglist?
Thanks for that great link at post 317. You are correct; it’s not just the article, but the comments below that are very informative.
His Mission may have been trying to get away from someone instead of going to something.
That's my impression -- that he was trying to elude a known (to him) assassin by not taking his car, not going where he said he was going, trying to get rides to unusual destinations, etc.
I would wager someone spiked him - what kind of drug, who knows, but that walk in the garage, shoe in hand, I have money, no fone call made.... Deep games, IMO.
I agree that he was probably drugged, since he had not displayed any of this behavior before, and was a very communicative man, always emailing people who had known him for nearly 50 years.
The fact that he didn't call his wife is intriguing; but it could also mean that he did not suspect her as the bankroll of the pursuer and just didn't want to frighten her in a situation he may have thought he could handle.
Then there is the other possibility that he had another woman involved and hence would not call. But that seems unlikely because they had only been married a short time, and he appeared very happy in their photos.
I wonder about the marriage. Was it a close one? Were they friends, but living separate lives? Was there animosity? More than idle curiosity, just going through a process of elimination.
I see her lack of communication being she was out of cell phone range (easy if you’re traveling) As to her lack of comment to media etc now. She knows too much and it's best she keeps quiet. Let the FBI handle the case.
Did you both see the picture on the other thread, it appears that the yellow tape is still around the house.
IMO they are well aware of who is involved in his death & are just waiting till all the lab work, loose ends, etc are tied up for a conviction. They may also suspect a hit job and are tying the instigators into the perpetrators. In reality that takes time. We're not on a one hour TV show.
My gut feeling at the first was that when he came home he was attacked and left for dead. Possibly even tried to burn the body in the house across the street. Since he was able to recognize them, original perps hunted him down. His mission was to keep away/ get away from them.
You’re added to the pinglist. Thanks.
Yes, please and thank-you. :)
