Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.

Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.

"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Colm Connolly successfully prosecuted Thomas J. Capano for the murder of Anne Marie Fahey. She was the one dumped in the ocean.

He was also nominated by George Bush in 2008 for the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. He did not get Senate approval. Not sure if Biden put a hold on it or it went to a vote.

Regarding the $25,000 reward article -

Wheeler was in New York City on Dec. 26, where he and his wife also have a residence, and from there headed to Washington, where he worked as a part-time consultant for the MITRE Corp., which provides systems engineering and information technology services to the government. Connolly said he is not sure what Wheeler was doing in Washington on that date, but believed it was likely related to his job or the many civic causes he was associated with.

Ok, so make some calls already! Find out where the heck he was.

A parking attendant who saw Wheeler around 6:40 p.m. Dec. 29, without a coat and carrying one shoe, said Wheeler claimed to have been robbed of his briefcase

A well dressed man does not look anything like a street bum, so why didn't the attendant call the cops?

Police have not shared any information about that incident or suggested that there is any link between that arson and his death,” Connolly said.

That whole phone thing about being found at the neighbors', lost there, or planted there is a big mystery. Either the police are being jerks not telling the family anything or they're concerned telling the family would endanger them as well, or they suspect someone in the family.

The surveillance videos of Wheeler at the Nemours Building have not been released and Connolly said the family would like to see those videos to verify that the person seen in the recordings is in fact Wheeler. Police said Wheeler is seen on the recordings wearing a hooded sweatshirt

Strange the police haven't shared that video. Was he possibly with someone? Was it even him? Was the hood up covering his face? Where did he get the hoodie? He complained earlier he was cold but did he buy the hoodie or take one from a homeless person? The hoodie thing is very strange.

...only $25,000 WTH??

Struck me as odd, too; unless they are anticipating having to give more than one payout. Maybe they have correctly estimated the pay scale of the average Delaware street person. Or maybe it is part of a CIA-directed deflection. An earlier poster said the lack of news is due to Newark investigators' incompetence and their wish that the less they say, the more the whole thing will just go away. I'm leaning towards #3 this morning, but am still mystified.

John hovers in the Dupont/Nemour area for two days...and he is obviously visible. Why hover?? Why no phone calls??

He had to eat, clean up, have coffee and would have bumped into many, many people.

I'd like to see Jack in the hoodie to see if he "hiding" or just keeping warm. It's about a 3/4 moon. He's in a well lit area when he leaves Nemours.

I think Jack knew exactly where he got mugged and was heading there on the 30th.

Don't bet everything the attorney is saying is the truth. He's on the job.

The story was put out to tempt someone...I'm surprised it wasn't offered earlier but they obviously waited for the official coroner's call so the attorney would know what his options are.

Sure would like to know if Jack was packing. We'll NEVER find that out.

The law firm that Connolly is with, Morgan, Lewis & Bokius, is one of Philadelphia’s most venerable and long-established WASPY law firms (founded 1873), with a branch in Delaware.

Important: Family last heard from Jack via email on the morning of the 29th.

Which family member??

Time???

Sounds like he was fine.

Bet that email is chock full of clues...His buddy said he's a prolific writer.

His wife is High Society...like a Rockefeller...

Because he didn't contact family or police, I originally figured the wife put a hit out on him. I was serious...and someone called me Dinozzo....NCIS.

Remember, like it or not, in a murder, family members become suspects.

Is it possible that with two lawyers with the same last name that he was just “confused”. Would still like to know if he was diabetic. So many of the confusions/not thinking clearly, “I’m not drunk”, immediate ID (Med id on body)etc would make common sense if that were the case.

Just for the record:

FROM:
http://www.free-symptoms-of-diabetes-alert.com/hypoglycemiasymptoms.html

Hypoglycemia symptoms vary from person to person and from episode to episode. The trouble is that some symptoms can mimic drunkenness. If people see you shaky and lacking coordination, they might just think you’re intoxicated.

...snip...

So let’s look at the causes first. They can happen due to one or more of the following:

Too much insulin is the most common cause of this condition.
Too much medication
Eating too little food or skipping and delaying meal times
Excessive physical activity

...snip...

Moderate Hypoglycemia Symptoms

Headache
Changed personality, behavior and mood
Confused and disoriented
Unable to concentrate and uncoordinated

...snip...

Here’s some preventive measures:

Monitor your blood sugar often.
Follow your meal plan.
Follow the exercise plan.
Take the medication as prescribed by the doctor.
Whenever there’s a change in your diet, physical activity and medication, closely monitor your blood sugar level

(Was his sugar monitor/medicine in the briefcase?

One thing which bothers me is the disinformation which came out early on. Disinformation such as he was drunk and or disoriented and evidence has been found linking him to arson.

Keeping the tinfoil theories closer to home, I have to wonder if the local authorities wanted this murder solved.

The warrants may have been sealed but someone was talking to the media, feeding them information which painted a picture of a crazy, old arsonist wandering the streets of Wilmington.

The only thing that has come out of this investigation was blunt force trauma after an assault, an announcement took the Newark PD by surprise.

Who murdered him and who helped cover it up. I think it all revolves around local corruption.

Just saw it on FOX. They still have him arriving on the 28...But they also have him going to DC on the 26th and we know that he was snowed in on that day. TIme frame given by FOX is “different” to say the least.

If he called them on the morning of the 29th, he still had a phone at that time. Or he called from the house phone.

Either way call can be confirmed.

AND the motive for those actions would be?

Police connection to the "family"? How dirty is LEO in DE????? (I think I know)

That's who Jack was looking for....This Colm F. attorney...and my gut goes back to my first thought...I'm very sorry to say...She wanted a divorce....put a hit on him...and he knew one of the perps...

Now it kinda makes sense that he didn't call anyone or want the police involved. This was a private matter.

I've said from the beginning that it makes absolutely no sense that he didn't even TRY to contact his wife...I don't care where she is....I emailed my son in Japan from NYS all the time.

Please...don't jump on me...I mean absolutely no offense to that family.

There was a note on a website about Colm: Great Attorney: Divorce, custody, support, etc...

Another thought. Since the information is being filtered through the attorney it could be that the this information is being sent out so the perps are unaware that LEO is on to them...”We know nothing! We haven't got a clue! We need help! We need another donut!”

In that case ...Hope the guilty parties let their guard down, talk a lot to each other so the wire tap and the guy with the mic in the white van down the street picks up their conversations. ;~)

Wonder if the reward is more than the amount of money it costs for a hit? Or maybe the exact amount...sending a message.
