Palin Urges Americans ‘Not to Forget Haiti’
NY Times ^ | 12/13/10 | Mike Shear

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, urged Americans “not to forget Haiti” as she spent the weekend in the earthquake-ravaged country, the Associated Press reported.

The onetime vice-presidential candidate declined to answer questions from reporters at a brief news conference, saying, “We don’t need to be getting political here today, O.K., folks.”

Ms. Palin had joined the evangelist Franklin Graham and his organization, Samaritan’s Purse, in a tour of the devastation. In her brief remarks, the A.P. said she urged a military airlift of supplies.

“I know that there’s been some discussion of U.S. aid perhaps being lifted from this area,” she said. “Again — not to get political — but if some of the politicians would come here and see the conditions, perhaps they would see a need for, say, a military airlift to come bring supplies that are so needed here.”

Sarah is right on target again with her statement that additional US airlifts to Haiti will help solve the Haiti Crisis.

So much aid gets stolen that only the military can get it in - and that’s why, right after the earthquake, Haiti refused to let the US military distribute aid. Unless the Haitian government can steal it, they don’t want to let it into the country.

The big problem with Haiti right now actually is political. It’s election was stolen to put into office the designated heir of its current corrupt (Clinton and Aristide connected) president. But as Mary Anastasia O’Grady pointed out today, the US wants nothing to do with this (Bambi is also on the side of the corruptocrats) and actually instead has been expending all of its diplomatic energies in trying to make sure the Communist who tried to take over Honduras last year is spared any prison time. Bambi and company are still mad that the Hondurans prevented a coup there and he just won’t let it go - while Haiti collapses because the stolen election is the final straw.

You do have to worry though about the aid being distributed effectively, and in a way that does not do more harm than good.

I have read articles about farmers in Haiti being in crisis because so much free food was flooding in from western countries. We have to be able to help them without trashing their economy.

I forgot Haiti a long time ago. It’s cesspool and any attempts to “save” it, “fix” it or “help” it is absolutely useless. The best thing you could do is drop a nuke on it.

I hear ya.

"With all due respect, Ms. Palin -- we have forgotten, and we're quite OK with it."

I’m sorry that I have to disagree with Sarah on aid to Haiti. The old saying go’s God helps those that help themselves and there is nothing the U.S. Is going to do other than throwing good money after bad.

The aid never go’s to the impoverished it’s stolen by the thugs running the government there.

Sorry but Haiti is on her own.

Hmmm. Sounds like "compassionate conservatism".

When people are hurting the government's gotta move, eh?

Been there, done that, still paying the credit card bill.

No thanks.

Palin Deification Syndrome (PDS) is certainly a problem here. But I don’t suffer from it.

I lean to the line of thought that they have the resources they need. So many people with time on their hands. Use that first. Give people there meaningful work.

She went at Graham’s invitation, to draw attention to the need in Haiti. It’s a year after the earthquake and donor fatigue is setting in

If you are dying of cholera, any publicity about your plight is good publicity. The lamestream media bashing Sarah at least draws attention back to conditions in Haiti.
She did not go there to get drawn into interviews intended to misquote her and kindle foreign policy debates.

Greta Van Sustern BTW, has gone on 2 previous Samaritan’s Purse aid distributions, one in 2008 to North Korea before anyone heard of Sarah Palin.

Do you think Bubba and Bush41 and other celebrities go to Haiti and other disaster zones to change bedpans? Or to gain press coverage of the situation on the ground and gain first hand impressions of the conditions to bolster pitches for donor aid?
