A 7-month-old boy remains hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by a bullet from an assault rifle while in a room at a Westside motel.
According to state attorney's office, the shot was accidentally discharged from an AK-47 just before 3 a.m. at the Super 8 Motel on Youngerman Circle.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told Channel 4 that the bullet grazed the baby's chest and struck his arm.
The boy was transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The boy's parents, Justin Satterfield, 25, and Brandy Purvis, 24, were arrested and charged with child abuse. Satterfield was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said the two were fighting over the gun when it accidentally went off.

No, silly, it was, "The GODS Must Be Crazy".
That is no put down on women who are little more robust and prefer the AK. However there is no excuse for rough housing with an AK at 3:00 a.m. in the morning and accidentally shooting the baby. It is that kind of mischief which causes the general public to become apprehensive even about those of us who are responsible gun owners.
The Pods must be crazy.
My hubby took care of the female in the ER
I shot an M-16 Machine gun..once..and only once! Amazing experience to be sure.
You should try a belt fed M60 ! With tracers !
In basic training we got lots of training on how to disassemble, reassemble, clean, load, exchange barrels, etc., but exactly one opportunity to shoot an M60, with a full box of ammo. It was lots of fun walking the tracers into junk cars at 800 to 1000 yards.
M-60s were all fun and games. Until you had to do 10 mile ruck marchs with one. Then that 24 pound chunk of metal got downright unpleasant.
Thank you for the informative post—you obviously have a lot of information about this group and area.
Your tax dollars at work.
