Smithsonian Christmas-Season Exhibit Features Ant-Covered Jesus, Naked Brothers Kissing, Genitalia, and Ellen DeGeneres Grabbing Her Breasts WARNING: This story contains graphic photographs of items on display in an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. Monday, November 29, 2010 By Penny Starr

(CNSNews.com) -- The federally funded National Portrait Gallery, one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, is currently showing an exhibition that features images of an ant-covered Jesus, male genitals, naked brothers kissing, men in chains, Ellen DeGeneres grabbing her breasts, and a painting the Smithsonian itself describes in the show's catalog as "homoerotic."

The exhibit, “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,” opened on Oct. 30 and will run throughout the Christmas Season, closing on Feb. 13.

“This is an exhibition that displays masterpieces of American portraiture and we wanted to illustrate how questions of biography and identity went into the making of images that are canonical,” David C. Ward, a National Portrait Gallery (NGP) historian who is also co-curator of the exhibit, told CNSNews.com.

e-brief

A plaque fixed to the wall at the entrance to the exhibit says that the National Portrait Gallery is “committed to showing how a major theme in American history has been the struggle for justice so that people and groups can claim their full inheritance in America’s promise of equality, inclusion, and social dignity. As America’s museum of national biography, the NPG is also vitally interested in the art of portrayal and how portraiture reflects our ideas about ourselves and others.

The people who did this and their allies are really very spiteful. Ugly begets ugly.

What a disgrace. When it opened, that museum was a fantastic tour of American history. Inevitably, the degenerates must expose themselves.

I really doubt the GOP will cut off funds for the Smithsonian.

Yes they can. The House holds the purse strings. If funding is withheld until said perversion like the above is removed, I have no doubt the Smithsonian will do an about face within a day just to get the funding back.

No, no one is going to do anything about this sacrilige. The reputation and continueation of Christianity lies in the hands of everday Christians.

If Christians permit this to continue, it will.

If Christians stop these exhbits they will stop.

How, protest, lawsuit, direct action

Smithsonian continues its downward spiral. Satan continues to use anything and anyone available and willing. It is imperative that none of our tax dollars will fund this type of “Art” exhibits.

This isn’t really a Christmas exhibit—just an exhibit that happens to run through February. To be honest, I don’t view this as a slam on Christmas or Christianity. Sadly, its just another banal exhibit of what passes for “art” these days. Nothing more, nothing less.

That’s the real issue here—art in America is banal. There is nothing wrong with a naked body as art but most nudity today is banal. Ellen DeGeneris grabbing her breasts is not art—its trendy pop culture and probably isn’t even “trendy” anymore given how worn out Ellen is. This is best argument as to why we should cut off funding to the National Endowment for the Arts—it subsidizes banal nonsense.

You know what i did? I called ‘em up and i told them exactly what i thought of their art and i also told them I’m cancelling my Smithsonian Magazine subscription.

I called the National Portrait Gallery where the exhibit is located and boy o boy was this gal clueless about the exhibit. She didn’t even know she had “ants on Jesus”.

I told her the whole exhibit was a travestry not just this particular piece but that particular piece was a crime to exhibit. I also told it the whole this sucking ftinks.

She hung up on me. I don’t care.

You should call. This is an outrage.

Here’s the contact numbers: 1-202-633-1000 and TTY: 1-202-633-5285

Sure they CAN cut off funds. But they won’t.

This would be a good test for the new freshmen conservatives that were elected with the support of the Tea Party. The majority of the people in this country (libs and conservatives) are against what is happening to this country, morally. Not to mention the financial waste.

Our government is filled with insane people; relativists who cannot tell truth from lie, beauty from the obscene. Indeed the more obscene, the more satisfying the rationalizations become. Anything base can be made the equal to anything fine. I suppose equal even to the glory of God.

All of it is so conjured to demoralize human beings.

Truly hopeless, devoid of beauty, utterly selfish, and ultimately pathetic.

This is the NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

Perhaps you misunderstood me.

The National Endowment for Arts is a slush fund, if you will, for the likes of pornographers such as Mapplethorpe to create their crap, whereas the National Portrait Gallery is the venue for them to show it. And it is a most beautiful place. A shame that the likes of Mapplethorpe and Leibowitz are allowed to sully it with their pornographic crap disguised as "art".

Both the NEA and the NPG are taxpayer funded.

While I think the pursuit and encouragement of the arts is a worthwhile thing, I think that public perception of what is or is not art should come into play.

On the other hand, one man's pornography is another mans art...however in this case, the decision as to what is what has been effectively taken away from the public.

The right of the public majority to decide how and on what their money should be spent has been steadily eroded by the immoral democratic party, anyway.

I can't help but think that the likes of Mapplethorpe and Leibowitz are secretly laughing at all of us, behind our backs.

Actually, it is not bad for the public to see the purely rotten and disgusting mentalities of America’s pervert activists. They have to debase Jesus to “win” which clearly shows that the human sexuality jig has nothing to do with “loving patners.” It is a struggle where evil is attempting to defeat good.

Interesting questions. Mail them to this homosexual curator who wants to promote his desire to cause everyone to think of homosexuals having sex as normal and aok. Sick of having the world go upside down and deviancy paraded as equal but different. Let the homosexuals go somewhere else and destroy marriage.
