When Mark Kirk is sworn in this afternoon, the U.S. Senate will once again have no African-Americans.
Since Reconstruction, there have only been four black senators. Three of them -- Carol Moseley Braun, Barack Obama and Roland Burris -- have held the seat that Kirk is about to occupy.
For reasons that go back more than a century, all the way to the First Great Migration from the South, Illinois has led the nation in black political empowerment. Weve elected more black statewide officials than anyone else. We produced the first black president. And it was a matter of pride among many Illinoisans that we kept the Senate integrated. In 2004, we picked such a great black senator that he went on to integrate the presidency.

I voted against him because he seemed too "country" for the Northshore. We've got a reputation to keep. ;-]
But they sure went after Alan Keyes when he ran against Obama for the Illinois seat, after the corrupt Obama campaign leaked the sealed divorce records of Jack Ryan.

A ridiculous headline. The Senate would have been without a black Senator regardless of who won the Illinois Senate seat!!!!
Yeah, I'm with you there, we should all email the guy with gushing letters of approval and ask him to run for Congress again in 2012.
I don't think his supporters are quite as bad as Oberweis' though. I haven't heard them accuse Julie Hamos, Jay Footlik, and Zane Smith (Seals RAT primary opponents the last three election cycles) of being GOP plants out to sabtoage Dan Seals, and constantly attack them for not dropping out in favor of him during the primary.
Could you picture it?
"I'm not a Seals fan... I only voted for him because he was the highest polling Dem, but Julie Hamos is a TRAITOR for running against him, damnit! Karl Rove put her up to it!!! It was a secret backroom deal!!!" ;-)

We've elected more black statewide officials than anyone else. We produced the first black president.Obama's not black. He's probably not even legally the President.

He was selected through the usual chicanery -- as well as racism -- for which Chicago is infamous. He's never had to pick up a check throughout his life (except maybe those VHS tapes he bought for his kids to give the Queen or whomever it was, when the UK used PAL, back when anyone on Earth used videotapes), and has shown his Moslem identity movement credentials throughout his adult life.
“Im also sure Alvin would be willing to step forward to take up the challenge.”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Yes he would, definitely! Alvin takes his responsibilities seriously because he realizes that he is the greatest person in the history of the galaxy or something like that. Alvin must do what no one else can do. Of course Alvin wouldn’t be able to stay in the Senate for very long, he has to be prepared to become our next president you know. I think he also has a television mini series to star in, something called, “Alvin Greene and the Chipmunks”, I believe.
Not yet, anyway!
BTW, Obama won that Senate seat by defeating an outstanding black opponent: Allan Keyes.
Since Reconstruction, there have only been four black senators.
And the fourth would be Ed Brooke (R-MA), a "moderate" Republican whom HRC famously dissed when he spoke at her graduation from Wellesley (1969?)
Thanks js93!
If 100-0 is segregated then so is 0-1.
yes, the headline and article are imbecilic, considering that the Demagogues ran a “white” candidate too.
If the Demagogues considered it so important to play the race-baiting game it was open to them to nominate Jesse Jackson, Jr. or any other twit “of color” they wanted to. The article is completely ludicrous since it is not the candidacy of Paul Kirk, per se, which “re-segregates” anything. Leftists really are delusional racists.
Where’s the barf alert? So suck an egg, you race-monger.
Democrats resegregated the Senate when they voted against black Republicans like Steele, blackwell and Swann.
If the guy has a problem with the fact that there are no blacks in the Senate, his beef should be with the voters. It’s certainly not Mark Kirk’s fault.
LOL What an ***hole headline. I gotta “defend” Marky here.
It’s not his fault that rat primary voters and power brokers rejected Black candidate Cheryle Jackson in favor of the Greek.
And those who have seen it ain't talkin'.
Makes you wonder.
Its not his fault that rat primary voters and power brokers rejected Black candidate Cheryle Jackson in favor of the Greek.
Yep, this one is not Mark Kirk's fault. Zero tried to get Valarie Jarett the nomination from Blago, but wasn't willing to pay to play. Jesse Jackson Jr. was willing to pay to play but Fitzgerald blew the whistle before it went down so he would have been roasted in the primary. So all that was left was the Greek and Hoffman, and the hardcore left was gung ho for Hoffman, but how could Zero abandon his basketball buddy who was the worst treasurer in Illinois history???
I still think Hoffman won that race and our wonderful friends in Cook County did what they did to Bill Brady and BOOM Alexi is your nominee.
Well we are on Day 2 of Mr Kirk goes to Washington and he hasn't changed parties yet. I wonder if we should have a pool to see when he decides to either A) pull a Jeffords or B) pull a Specter or C) just be a wimp and stick with Snowe, Collins, McCain and that creep Graham.
Clarification bump. Proof that this thread needed an urp alert. Black degradation and poverty will persist as long as race-pimping DuBois followers like this guy McClelland (and the object of his tingling) continue to wear their blinkers.
Even the "native" peoples are immigrants. Who, by the way, may have genocidally eliminated an earlier ur-population of Eurasian immigrants who would have resembled not so much the NE Asians and Eskimos and Amerindians, but rather the Ainu of Hokkaido and other ancient genotypes found around the margins of modern Asian societies.
Exactly. This is a good point that I did not make in my first post. I tell liberals whenever this topic comes up that they're immigrants, too, not "Native Americans". They just got here 10,000 or 20,000 years before we did, depending on whose theory you believe.
Well, to be completely accurate you can’t say Illinois voters could only choose between two white guys. There WAS a black candidate on the ballot in the general election, Green Party loon LeAlan Jones. He got 3.2%. Of course it was hard for him to find a niche since there were three socialist RATs on the ballot, except he and Mark promoted the same socialist agenda as Alexi under a different party label.
Here’s something interesting... Labno spent so much time at campaign events with Jones, he says he’s weaned the guy off the socialist kool-aid and Jones has since abandoned the Greens. Labno wrote on his facebook page:
“Who could even imagine that scenario? Currently LeAlan is revising his positions about abortion and the 2nd Amendment! Yesterday we talked and he told me he met with a group of African-American Republicans to discuss free market concepts!!!”

Seems even Jones has seen the light now, but Kirk is as wedded to the RAT agenda as ever. Pretty sad when the “Republican” nominee is more hardcore socialist than the Green nominee.
