So, did someone screw up, or is the CA GOP simply incompetent?

The left wingnuts will still blame the GOP for Cali’s self-inflicted wounds...

I don’t think it is because the GOP is incompetent. Cooley is a vastly more competent DA than the radical left Kamala Harris.

Whites now make up 41% of the population

Republicans make up 30% of the registered voters.

I think a lot of the answers lie in these numbers.

The white middle class has basically packed it bags and left the state, as Democrat supporting demographic groups have moved in. I live in LA. I know. All these mindless drones care about is having the “D” after your name inside the polling booth.

It's not incompetent, it's just not a political party. The Cal GOP is more like a country club for liberal old-money insiders. No conservatives need apply.

The A.G. race is one of those under the radar races, so not many people knew anything about Cooley or Harris.

I heard Cooley advertised in L.A., but not much elsewhere. Didn't see any adds for him in the S.F. media market.

I don't know it would have mattered. Once Whitman's housekeeper issue came out, she was toast and I believe, drug every other Republican down with her.

They could try, but it won't fly with even most Californians. The Democrats now completely own California and it's future.

I think every single California Democrat incumbent was re-elected to the Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, state assembly, and state senate. The get out the Mexican vote effort makes Republican efforts futile. California is dead.
I hope people in the other states sit up and take notice. This can happen in states like Georgia, Virginia, etc. Illegal immigration is killing America.

The demographics were already hopelessly slanted to the leftists by 2000. It was clear that CA would be owned by the left from that time forward. It wasn't a hard decision to pack up my family and move to Idaho. Unfortunately, I find myself working in San Diego again. 924 miles from home. Immersed in loons and soon having to pay CA state income tax again. My home is Idaho. That's where I go to vote. I wish that is where I could live and work continuously.

Harris is a hard leftist who will use the taxpayer's money to attack CA businesses with endless environmental suits. The violent criminals can breath a sigh of relief. She won't be pursuing them.

Well, at least you are in San Diego. I believe Cooley, Fiorina, and Whitman all carried that county, so at least there are a few areas of the state which aren’t so lock step. In LA County and the SF Bay area it is truly hopeless and overwhelmingly Democrat.

The thread you’re linking to started right after the election, at a time that Cooley had regained the lead.

I’m always perplexed when someone attributes California election outcomes to demographic factors, particularly race.
Were it not for family members, who are either unable or unwilling to move, I too would leave the State that’s been my home all of my life! But, I’m in agreement with EricT, that “The Cal GOP is more like a country club for liberal old-money insiders. No conservatives need apply.” They did a piss-poor job of outreach, getting the “conservative” message out to the people. I suspect that they don’t know how to. But, not everyone in this state is an illegal alien or receiving government assistance!

Well I disagree with the idea that the CA GOP has not outreached to women and nonwhites. We had female candidates leading the charge for governor, US Senate, and state Treasurer, a Latino candidate for Lt. governor, and a black candidate for Secretary of State.

Simple truth is this: CA unfortunately has long since transitioned from Reagan Country to a solid blue state like NY, VT, MA, RI, and HI.

The only kind of Republicans who can win, unfortunately seem to be nominal Republican Rinos like Arnold and Richard Riordon.

The truth is that you have to have attractive candiddates, (I obviously don’t mean physically), who have a message and are seeking office for reasons, other than some sense of entitlement. Meg Whitman? Really? Shall I go on?

I really liked Meg. No she wasn’t perfect. Nothing in politics is. But both she and Carly had very attractive business backgrounds who lead our state’s two most dynamic high tech corporations. Contrast this to the two partisan party hacks who defeated them. Californians really do have their heads firmly embedded up their rectums. People seem to have forgotten that Jerry Brown appointed Rose Bird to the state supreme court. And Boxer is simply the worst of the worst.
