The last county in New York's 25th District has reported the count of absentee ballots on Sunday afternoon.
Ann Marie Buerkle, pro-life Catholic good gal, has 104,374 votes, 567 more than culture of death 'Rat Dan Maffei.
Congratulations, Congresswoman-elect Buerkle. You are the GOP's 242nd member of the house for the 112th Congress; the GOP is up 63 seats from the 111th.
Only three races left, although the 'Rats lead in all three (the word in NY-01, the east end of Long Island, is that bearded Marxist Tim Bishop is 15 votes ahead of the GOP's Randy Altschuler).
Altschuler has a chance if you believe the reports on the web. According to the report that has him 15 down ALL the absentee from the East End,especially the South Fork have been counted. The remain ing absentee votes are from Brookhaven Town which is a GOP stronghold. The problem will occur with challenged ballots. Most of these are Dem absentee votes from Florida. NY has thousands of snow birds. They key will be if the GOP cross references with Fla to find double voting This would invalidate these absentees. But with Crist as governor I don’t see much hope for cooperation.
“They key will be if the GOP cross references with Fla to find “double voting.””
I sure hope they do. That issue has been a thorn in my side, even before the ‘00 brouhaha. Some people simply don’t care about following the law, and think THEY are free to vote in two places.
Awesome news! Hope NY Dist 1 pulls it out. I know people there
and it’s a conservative part of that state...if that is even
possible!
Just hope all these newbies can get something good done on Capitol hill!
This country deserves a break!
When is Ann Marie’s swearing in ceremony? The sooner the better. Wayne Co., I love ya!
She kind of reminds me of Lauren Bacall (approx. 20 years ago).
Yep, what have we gained now—62 seats?
I'd love to see some double voters caught. A good remedy in addition to fines and jail would be a suspension of their voting rights in all locations for at least 10 years.
My sentiments exactly!
Or when a precinct reports more votes than there are registered voters.
I have a very fuzzy memory from the mid-80s that a Congressman was elected (from DE?) until it turned out that there was “overvoting.” Significant ‘overvoting.” And you’ll never guess what party.
Update....
Dan Maffei’s options in New York’s 25th Congressional District: Concede or recount
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/11/dan_maffeis_options_in_new_yor.html
U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei is left with two options: concede to Republican Ann Marie Buerkle or ask a judge to order a hand recount of more than 200,000 paper ballots in the undecided race for the 25th District.
Maffeis campaign said Monday he had not made a decision. State Supreme Court Justice Brian DeJoseph has set a hearing for 10 a.m. Wednesday. The judge moved the hearing from Tuesday to give the campaigns one more day to review the vote totals the county election boards were sending to the state.
YES!!!!!!!!
This puts NY Senate in Republican hands.
Thank you CARL PALADINO!
He may not have won the Gov. position, but he drove up the republican turnout enough to have a positive effect.
Buerkle is US rep, not state.
Thank God! Met her a couple times on the road, she campaigned very hard for this seat.
This gives us what?
Reed
Lee
King
Buerkle
Any others? I thought there were 6 possibles.
He hasn’t conceded yet. It’s still not *official*.
He still has the option to request a hand recount, I understand, although with as careful as they’ve been, I don’t see the point.
People are pretty disgusted judging by the comments at the Post-Standard. He’s been behind the whole time and it’s time to move on.
Poor baby is going to have to actually work for a living now, living UNDER the legislation he helped inflict on us.
Payback is sweet.
Just got this..
Maffei concedes...calls Ann Marie and surrenders!!!!
Phone call was made by Maffei minutes ago [press conference at 4:00pm]
ANOTHER HOUSE SEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at this whining here in Rochester, from yesterday.
