Sarah Palin May be the Savviest Presidential Hopeful Ever (Are the nut-roots finally waking up?)

There is little doubt that Sarah Palin is running for president. But while Mitt Romney is archaically gallivanting across the country to raise money for his run, Palin has molded her platform into a 21st Century media sensation.

Topping off her unofficial campaign for the White House, Sarah Palin’s reality show premiered Sunday night with a viewership of over 5 million — TCL’s largest premiere to date. And it is with this show, that Palin will reintroduce herself to the county.

As embarrassing as it may be, I did watch her new show. Even though I find Palin damning to our national debate, she comes off pretty nicely. The show is scripted, let that be known, but to the average viewer who will tune in and rediscover Palin, they will see an average-seeming, relatable American.

As much as I doubt Palin’s intelligence, she has cleverly crafted herself into a position with all of the benefits of a presidential candidate with none of the shortfalls. No debates, no press interviews, nothing. The eight-episode series will serve as an effective run up to Palin announcing her candidacy sometime next year.

In addition to her series, she has worked her way onto a popular primetime show on a major network. As her daughter shakes her hips on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Palin’s cameo comes across unassuming as a supportive mother, but the devil is in the details. A recent study outlined in The Hollywood Reporter shows that ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is one of the top ten shows watched by self described conservatives — Palin’s go-to crowd.

Palin isn’t just taking TV by storm. While Obama my have built his campaign on Facebook, Palin has come to dominate Twitter. Out of all the possible GOP contenders, Palin’s has the number of followers presidential hopefuls dream about. And when she tweets, she stirs a media storm. As Howard Fineman so eloquently put, “Sarah Palin, of course, is the Gore Vidal of attack tweets.”

If you doubt Pain’s prowess as a presidential hopeful, just look what she has done in the past year: become a correspondent on Fox News, published a book, helped build the small tea party movement into a national force, launched a TV show, and built a monumental following on Twitter and Facebook.

I know what you may be saying: sure she has selling power but it doesn’t mean she’ll win the nomination. But look at the key victories Palin’s endorsements brought. She helped elect six governors, two I should add are in the key primary states of Iowa and South Carolina — these favors will be called in. Second she successfully endorsed 18 winning House candidates and 6 winning senate candidates – among these newly elected senators are Rand Paul and Marco Rubio who will comprise her steering committee.

Lastly — from the moment she declares her candidacy, Palin will dominate the election. Other candidates may be able to outspend her, but her star power will be unmatched. She will win the Iowa caucus, because Iowa doesn’t usually have a history of picking party darlings. Just look how Mike Huckabee overtook Mitt Romney in the caucuses. When she wins here, it will be just as big of a moment as it was for President Obama.

Palin is a force to be reckoned with inside the Republican party. The problem she’ll need to overcome after she wins the Republican nomination will be positioning herself as a realistic alternative to President Obama—something that may prove tricky with voters who voted against candidates with similar values, like Christine O’Donnell and Sharon Angle.

"Maybe I’m missing something here but the only way anyone can get FEDERAL executive experience is to be the PRESIDENT."

There are other executive positions besides President and VP. FDR got his as Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Others have served in cabinet positions (Secretary of State is often one). Eisenhower was military (still federal and executive). But it is more about EXECUTIVE experience than "federal" experience. Many with Federal POLITICAL experience have run (Senators and Congressmen), but not many have succeeded. State governors have often been tapped.

i simply don’t believe she can beat bammy.

Hide and watch. She'll run rings around him on the campaign trail. The magic is gone from Obama -- we'll never again elect "our first black president".

And she'll know what to do when she arrives in the Oval Office. Like Reagan she has a set of clearly articulated objectives. And she has quick and decisive mind. She knows how to make decisions...and she won't be afraid of making them.

That is the essence of being an executive. She would command any board room in the country.

“BHO got exactly what he wanted. “

I guess that means he didn’t really want to bring the Olympics to Chicago. :)

I would not use FDR as an example of executive experience if I were you. New Deal, pro union, Social Security (still a mess today)... He was one of the most 'Progressive' presidents that we have ever had.

Then again, maybe you should. It is alot of what we are fighting right now.

This was the most discombobulated mess I ever tried to read about Sarah Palin.

If she is so all-fired stupid, ignorant, helpless, gauche, and ditzy, why is she such a NAME to worry about? LOLOL! They can't make up their (hahahahaha!) minds.

we got bammy with no experence doing a horrendous job and we want to elect palin who has no experence either?

Apples and oranges. Sarah's experience was executive, and not just at the gubernatorial level. Obama's was not.

“This first way of looking at the resignation is probably more complex than most people will take the time to consider.”

That is my point.

“A simpler way of understanding it is by looking backwards at it from the present. Would you rather have had Gov.Palin waste 18 months as a stalemated executive in Alaska or would you rather that she played the role she did in the 2010 elections”

Certainly those who would vote for her in a primary and general would agree she did the smart thing.

“and why is it that the people complaining about her resigning are the same ones that never wanted her as governor in the first place?”

I have seen comments by conservatives who would want her as governor, but oppose the resignation.

“This view also credits Gov. Palin with the degree of political insight that she has proven to possess.”

I agree the results, both her financial wellbeing, and political endorsements, are a strong reflection of her insight.

The remaining question is how it plays with the voters between the 40 yard lines—those any candidate must have to win.

Her unfavorables remain high, indicating she could win the primary, but perhaps not the general.

One could say its a reality show ABOUT ALASKA. Most people have zero knowledge about the state...Alaska even has a rain forest, I have been there....but how many americans know that...just an interesting side note, I never knew it until I visited it on my last trip to Alaska..

Sarah would benefit from a voice coach, who would teach her how to lower her voice. As it is now, her voice rises as she gets into her speeches, etc., and becomes almost like fingernails on a chalk board. Like Lauren Becall when she first went to Hollywood, learning to control that instrument works wonders. And Hillary had a voice coach the summer before she ran against Obama. No more ‘uh’s, and ‘you know’s’, lower voice. Much more polished. Same old witch, however.

"Then again, maybe you should. It is alot of what we are fighting right now."

Correct. But my point was that FDR "did" have experience as a federal executive other than president....not what he chose to do with it. There is no question that that experience plus similar experience at the state level (governor of New York) helped him get elected to the presidency.

Palin has EXACTLY the sort of experience "I" would prefer to see in a candidate...a progression from LOCAL government to State government to national government. She has seen and has "hands-on" experience at ALL levels of governance.

Just as I would like to see a similar progression of service at the legislative level (Congress). That is local to state to national. There is no more dangerous candidate than a "fair-haired boy" with NO experience running on name recognition and getting elected directly to "high" office. The learning curve is then very steep, and they have to make it in a single step.

Contrast Sarah's record as governor, for example, to that of Schwarzenegger. She accomplished more in two years than he has in his entire tenure.

A question:
I remember the power support team of Carville, Begala and Lanny Davis managing the Clintons. I remember oh so well, Karl Rove and gang for George W Bush. I remember Rahm Emmanuel David Axelrod, Plouffe etc with Obama.

Does anyone know who the Svengalis are behind Sarah Palin?

Oh, wait a minute, there doesn't appear to be anybody there!

Where did I doubt her intelligence. I just don’t think 20 months as governor of Alaska is proof positive of her executive abilities. I think as far as exec ability goes, Bobby Jindal has well surpassed Palin’s performance, and that of most other state execs. He’s also stood toe to toe against Obama in person.
