200 top American CEOs coming with Obama (on trip to India)

WASHINGTON: With trade high on his agenda, some 200 odd top US business chiefs, including soft drink giant Pepsico's India-born CEO Indra Nooyi , are expected to join US President Barack Obama on his India visit next month.

Also expected are Honeywell CEO David M Cote, who co-chairs the India-US CEO Forum with Tata group chairman Ratan Tata .

So is Terry McGraw, CEO of leading publishing house McGraw Hill, who took over from Nooyi as the chairman of the US Indian Business Council , representing 300 top US companies last June.

Two more of 12 US forum members, Louis Chênevert, CEO of aerospace major United Technologies Corp, and Ellen Kullman, chief executive of chemicals giant DuPont , may also be joining.

But there is no word yet whether Citigroup's Indian-American CEO Vikram Pandit is going.

Andrew Liveris, Chairman, CEO and President of The Dow Chemical Company had skipped last June's forum meeting here at the height of Bhopal gas leakage controversy and it's not known whether he would give Delhi a miss too.

Only last week underscoring the "significance" of the "important economic relationship" with India, Obama's Press Secretary Robert Gibbs voiced the US hope of getting "some tangible results" from Obama's India visit.

Describing it as "an important economic relationship," he also made clear that Obama will talk a lot about "what we have to do to create jobs, to grow our exports, to ensure (and) that it just doesn't fall on American consumers to drive world demand."

"That's a lot of what you'll hear the President talk about on that trip, and we'll hopefully have some tangible results from it," Gibbs said.

US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke , who would be accompanying the president, also told a medical technology conference that "trade is high on the agenda" in New Delhi.

And to get Washington and Delhi to "catch up to the business and innovation cooperation that is already happening in New York and Mumbai," as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton put it, the CEO Forum has recommended several "interesting and ambitious ideas" in four core areas of infrastructure; clean energy; education and e-health/biotechnology.

But to outsourcing executives here in India, it’s heaven-sent. A number of Indian companies are already anticipating an increase in workload thanks to Obama’s healthcare law. The addition of 32 million insured Americans is “very significant” for Indian outsourcers, says Ananda Mukerji,...

There’s something very wrong here. It’s sort of a headlock influence grab, with the implication that if Mr. CEO doesn’t come along that his company will lose out to those whose CEOs do play ball.

Up for reelection two years from now, the Obama administration will take credit for all kinds of mundane trade deals in the future when they’re done by their 40% of the Fortune 500.

DeathCare is going to be defunded and repealed or else the newly elected will be going home too. The Indians better not count their millions/billions too soon.

News Flash, funeral homes will be the first recipients of the benefits of DeathCare which is designed to eliminate Americans not provide health care!

"That's a lot of what you'll hear the President talk about on that trip, and we'll hopefully have some tangible results from it," Gibbs said.

I respect India - let me be more bold. I ADMIRE India, and I admire them a great deal. Consider a country in which there are literally over a THOUSAND languages spoken, where each and every High School student speaks a minimum of 3 languages (English, Hindi and whatever local dialect prevails in their district).

Now, we have a huge population of poor people, with few natural resources (compared to almost anyone) - so what do they do? They dig deep within themselves and their culture, and know that knowledge is the way to prosperity - not begging for help from others (Hello, Mexico? You paying attention? Obviously not).

The Indians I have met, have without exception been friendly, genuine, hard working, smart and have welcomed me into thier homes and families. Are there some bad Indians? Yes, absolutely - I just have not met one, and the odds are that neither have you.

For the sake of India - I hope they take Obama's money, smile and welcome him there with the respect due to an Ally - then ignore whatever he says. Let his ideas die with the echoes of his voice, and never be repeated. They are doing remarkably well without Jughead's help - and I believe that they will surpass the USA in almost every regard within my lifetime.

Consider, in India a person gets ahead by hard work and education, not entititlement programs. If you do poorly in school - you are left behind. If you don't work hard at your job, you have a job. Is there still corruption? Yes, and it is eventually exposed and rooted out. Think of where India was just 20 years ago; and where they are today. That, my friend, is growth; and they have only just begun. Meanwhile, our leadership, our schools, our unions and our 'Green' Laws are doing everything within their power to collapse our country - and our Gov't stool is doing whatever they can to accelerate the decline.

It's the Chicago Way.

I said it on another thread, the only pertinent fact is that the average Indian earns $460 a year. And THAT’S why we’re spending $200 million a day to send these assholes over there.

So...since all of these CEO's are on some kind of Trade Council, it means "We The People" are picking up the tab for their vacation?

Oh! Excuuuuuuuuuse me.

Their "working" vacation.

Let’s see - Obama is taking his family, his entire staff, hundreds of security people, hundreds of stop executives...hmmmm...now why would he do that?

What does he think is going to be happening here in this country?

Could last week’s UPS events been the occasion for something shipped into this country, not intended to be exploded immediately but to be used at a later date when The One is out of the country?

Not at all. These people are eager to be included and have the opportunity to strengthen their ties to the government which controls the regulatory strings, while simultaneously gaining incalculable advantages over their competition.

This is classic fascism in operation.

Obama is always shouting about the salaries CEO’s get, so now he takes them on a trip at taxpayers expense. WTF?
