Seeking to fire up the Democratic base and the young voters who helped put him into office in 2008, President Barack Obama urged an overflow crowd on the Ohio State University Oval last night to reject a Republican agenda "that nearly destroyed the economy."
"We need you fired up because in a little more than two weeks, you can set the direction of this state and the direction of this country for not just the next two years, but the next five years, the next 10 years, the next 20 years," Obama said to the crowd, which university police estimated at 35,000.
It's believed to be the largest Obama rally since his his inauguration.
"This is the same theory they have been peddling for years," Obama said of GOP policies on regulation, taxes, trade and other issues that he blamed for causing the recession.
"And Ohio, it is up to you to tell them we do not want what they are selling. We've been there before, and we are not going back."
Larissa Gerber and Johanna Moeckel, both 22-year-old OSU seniors who attended the rally, said they voted for Obama in 2008. They both think Obama has done a good job in office so far and "definitely" plan to vote this year.
But Ben Boeke, 30, a Grove City engineer who attended the rally with his wife and 3-year-old son, said he is leaning toward supporting Kasich in the governor's race because "nothing's really changed the last four years with Strickland."
The president also held a small fundraiser in Columbus before the OSU rally for the Democratic National Committee that was expected to raise $250,000.

They’re officially chillrun now till age 26 so they can just live with mom.
She looks like she’s wearing maternity clothes
The surrounding area is lower income to the east and south, progressives in Upper Arlington.
Well, 105k in the stadium, and another 50k partying on Lane and High streets. WAY more for OSU-Michigan...
"Tell the president we have done so."
Of course there’s a huge turnout. It’s a huge state school. I think the American people have grown weary of the constant campaigning. Who’s running the show while he’s galavanting across the country trying to save his ego? He needs to do his job or get the hell out.
Note the “Vote” signs with the Zero logo.
I wasn’t aware that he was running in 2010.
It really is all about him, isn’t it?
The Dems aren’t worried about Ohio. The word is that the ‘Progressives’ have requested absentee ballots 2:1 (DtoR).
“it seems the band/artist Legend performed prior to Obamas entry. Imagine that, kids went to a free concert for a popular singer.”
That’s what Obama did during the 2008 election, I figured there was live music for this also to draw the kids in.
BTW, where are the white people in that video? Other than the white women used as props in the one dream sequence....
Is the reason he never wears a tie, because he doesn’t know how to tie one?
There are a lot of clueless people out there.
Thanks for the education. I actually watched the video. Is that the singer who appeared at the rally?
“Give me the Green light...
Give me just one night”
That sweater looks microscopic on her...
I wonder how much that getup retails for...?
I wouldn’t doubt if it’s $$$$...
Barack: “ And how the hell you gonna sell children’s nutrition when every photo shows you eatin an ice cream cone “
Not so hot....considering there are about 766,767 students at Ohio State ;-)
Worf's sister??
It's important to remember that there are more unionized government workers in Columbus than in any other place in this State, which is precisely why Brack showed up there - bussing in the union flacks is much easier when they are all concentrated in one place.
One other factor - the Congressional District which encompasses Ohio State is represented by a bona-fide Socialist (Mary Jo Kilroy); it may be the most Brack-friendly district in all of Ohio.
Oh, and by the way - most of those 'youts' who showed up for free music and stuff at this rally won't be showing up to vote. :)
Reports are that the 35,000 is inflated. Shocking, I know.
