Clooney asks Obama for commitments on Sudan

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama met with activist-actor George Clooney at the White House on Tuesday to discuss U.S. involvement in Sudan ahead of a critical election early next year in Africa's largest nation.

Clooney recently returned from Sudan, and is asking the U.S. and world community to use international pressure and robust diplomacy to prevent violence ahead of the Jan. 9 election. The election is an independence referendum on south Sudan that is likely to split the country in two, and there are fears that the vote could lead to a new outbreak of north-south civil war.<>

“Clooney’s plan will be to bring millions to America”

Insane. If he wants to being millions, let him bring them to his mansions and those of his friends.

I think that if we hadn’t blown all that money, we would likely have a stuffed treasury rich with cash and be breezing through this recession. This country isn’t supposed to be some everlasting ATM machine. If we had those trillions, no illegals, and reformed welfare, then I am sure that we would be in an entirely idyllic situation.

However, Obama said in the meeting that the ultimate responsibility for Sudan's future rests with its political leaders.

Ah, autonomy for Sudan but not for Honduras, eh Barry? Mr. Clooney, 0baMao just gave you his Super-Secret Soetoro middle finger. LOL

I’m talking about Barack. With teh Hollywood mentality of sleeping with who you want to get what you want, it would make sense that that would be his tactic.

In a article I came across earlier it stated that Clooney gave 0bie a personal autograph book and Justin Beiber new nail polish, for me I think that is all 0bie cared about. That is why he was allowed to see him. Other wise in another time no way.

The only way Obama would consider helping Sudan, and in which case he’d probably send every soldier and weapon available, is if it were the Christians that were slaughtering the Muslims and if Obama’s cousin Odinga wasn’t buddies with the corrupt and evil leader in Sudan.

I could never support sending our men and women to Sudan, given the long history of civil war and senseless slaughter in Africa. They refuse to help themselves, improve their countries, or stand up against the criminals and thugs that run their countries. You can never help someone that is not willing to do anything to help themselves. Of course, they are very willing to take our free food and medicine aid, though.

“I think [Obama would] be a good president in 2010, 2012 and 2014. I think he’s the most charismatic person I’ve been in a room with in a long time.”

I recently told my mother to put a picture of the back side of a mule over my ex-husband’s face on her copy of our family portrait so she wouldn’t have to look at him. My daughter wanted me to put a picture of Clooney over the ex’s face on our copy last week, but I told her they were both jackasses. I put a shirtless picture of Matthew McConaughey over him instead...hot stuff, smart and patriotic from what I have read and a native Texan too ; )

I give Clooney credit for actually going to the Sudan and talking to victims who had been raped, beaten, and had their family murdered in front of them. He slept on the floor in 3rd world conditions, along with others visiting the area. Personally - I think looking into people’s eyes while they tell you about the day their soul shattered would be tough. I am glad someone is agitating for the Sudan. Generally speaking, I don’t think the US has money to give unless it is re-routing funds from countries that are at any given moment abusing us and directing those funds to the Sudan.
I think the reason no one is helping the Sudan is because it’s ‘only’ Christians being killed (politically unpopular).I don’t think George realizes that - he can’t understand why the same donors who will fund Muslim or other third world interests will not invest their charity dollars to protect a Christian minority. George is quoted somewhere as saying it’s the biggest failure of his life that he has been unsuccessful in bringing help to the Sudan. He held a telethon and I give him credit for that. I personally don’t think that a rich person must become poor in order to help the poor (give up his wealth). But he has a megaphone (his celebrity) and he is trying to use it to help people who fall below the compassion radar because they are a ‘christian minority’. It may be that the only way George will be able to do what he wants to help the people who shared their suffering with him is to turn a big ugly spotlight on the indifference of donors to help Christians being slaughtered by Muslims. It would make him unpopular but he has played the hero in his own movie about blacklisting due to political affiliation - this would be exactly the stand his ‘hero’ in that movie would have taken.

But it means that George will exert himself for a distant Christian minority being slaughtered by Muslims. I think that speaks well for him. I think that ‘true believers’ of Liberal faith actually think that Liberals are by definition above bigotry (religious or racial). It appears that George is moved by the plight of these people regardless of their race or religion, as any decent person should be, but he can’t understand his peer liberals - why won’t they help? He’s spent his life hearing something that isn’t true (Liberals=ultimate compassion; Conservatives=ultimate greed) and in trying to apply it to what he is experience doesn’t work. I don’t really blame him for that. But he’s going to have to keep running into that wall trying to help the Sudan until he changes his world view. His reputation, fame, connections all labor to keep him believing something that isn’t true and what he really wants to do, can’t be done unless he changes his world view. I wonder if he has tried partnering his charity efforts with churches who send missionaries to those areas? There are always those willing to risk their lives to bring education, medicine, clean water...and yes...sometimes faith!...to the most dangerous forsaken parts of the world. This would probably be offensive to George - I believe he thinks Christians are the enemy. But...as long as he still breathes and is willing to fight for those people - there’s hope he can look outside his world view and make the connection. I shudder to think how his peers would treat him but I am rooting for him. And will remember to pray for the tormented souls in the Sudan.

Christians recognize that Christ died on the cross for us all. I recognize that Christ died on the cross for the people of the Sudan, and for George Clooney. We as Christians are to pray for and love those around us even if they don’t share our beliefs. That’s Christianity 101. Mr. Clooney loathes my political beliefs and my Christianity - but I still don’t forget that God loves him.

“but I still don’t forget that God loves him.”

God may love him. Everyone else thinks he’s an illiterate boob who thinks we have presidential elections every 2 years (2010,2012 and 2014).

On a positive note Clooney believes Soetoro will complete his second term by 2012, so maybe he’s more of a idiot savant than we realize.

And if he helps save some people from a hellish existence in the Sudan, I shall raise a glass and toast him. Vote him into office, no. Study his political opinions, no. Want to meet him, no.
Thank God for any and all (celebrity or not) who exert themselves to protect innocent people from starvation, rape and murder - Cheers!

You sound like a very loving and kind person.....

please think about this:

there are many people who are NOT like you....

there are many people who perceive kindness as weakness....
