Coons (D) - O'Donnell (R) Debate thread 7:30pm EDT CNN .
Message from County Executive Chris Coons....FY2010 Budget Passes and Stimulus Funding Update
Dear Friends,
Last week, County Council passed the Fiscal Year 2010 budget. This was a difficult budget process, and required many tough decisions. We cut $23 million from this budget, which is the largest budget reduction in county history. We reached salary concessions with more than 900 employees on a 5 percent salary reduction for the coming year to bring down our employee costs. Lastly, we asked homeowners to contribute $100 more on average to sustain valued county services.
This budget puts us on the right path towards addressing our long-term financial challenges, but we have more work ahead of us. What we cannot continue to do is rely on property tax increases and the Real Estate Transfer Tax to cover our expenses. What we must do is grow our local economy, diversify our revenue streams, and negotiate new contracts with our workforce that better reflect our fiscal reality. None of these are easy tasks, but are critical for the countys fiscal future.
Earlier this week, we announced that New Castle County will be receiving federal stimulus dollars that will help support our Public Safety Department. Well also receive federal funds to expand current housing programs for homeless assistance, foreclosure prevention, and for neighborhood stabilization under existing federal housing programs. Lastly, the county will receive federal funding for one-time capital projects that will fund the purchase of solar energy systems, for example, to help power county facilities or completion of greenways in our parks, both of which are projects that we would not complete but for these federal funds. While helpful, these one-time capital dollars will not solve our ongoing operating challenges.
As always, I am proud to serve as your County Executive and look forward to working together to overcome the challenges we face and continuing to deliver great services for strong communities.
Sincerely,
Chris

Not going to be a “pet,” Coons?? BS.. You’re OBAMA’s pet. And sure as hell no “bulldog.”
If you are running for Congress, how can you not spend 5 minutes a week keeping an eye on the Supreme Court, including recent and upcoming cases.
In fairness to the students CNN has picked the questions-’Super’ liberalizing the questions’ slant.
And speaking of Palin....I like COD well enough, but if Palin had been up there next to him, Coons would have been on the floor in five minutes, staked out with high heels and crying like a baby.
And Jimminy Christmas are we back to a witch thing?
If she is a freaking witch how does that impact her as a Senator?
“I don’t know why Harry Reid said that.” She should have interrupted: “I do.”
...CNNs and FNCs are going overboard with this Chikle miners story. Its important. It should be covered but the wall to wall coverage of it seems a bit ridiculous.
&&&
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Harry’s Pet Coons is bi-partisan??! LOL
He saved the best for last.
Could these mods be anymore in the bag for Coons.
If Delaware votes for this jack-ass Coons, they have no compunction to ever bring real jobs back. They have no interest in God, and they have no interest in honest representative Government. He is a joke.
Nice closing statement, but I wish she had it memorized.
Friends, I am in Delaware and offer the following:
1. No one is watching the debate.
2. O’Donnell has been treated badly. 3 against 1.
3. O’Donnell’s performance has been uneven - great on some issues, terrible on others. She is NOT that intellectually deep and missed many opportunities to crush him.
4. Coons has been condescending.
5. As Erik at Red State has commented, COD is taking one for the team from coast to coast; all the MSM attention on COD has helped to liberate Angle, Buck and others from the MSM crosshairs.
6. I am encouraging everyone I know to vote for COD but she is unlikely to make it in DE. Whether you care about this or not, Castle would have crushed Coons and given the GOP an immediate +1 pickup.
7. Every GOP down-ballot conservative is terrified of COD and wanted Castle at the top of the ticket. It is now every man for himself in DE.
8. I wish COD well and hope that 2 million dollars can expose Coons for the Obama rubber stamp that he will be.
her points are excellent and do not need memorized
Coons had his talking points down, and that’s about it. He’s going to be nothing more than a rubber stamp for Obama... just as he promised.
Tom Brokaw was merely obnoxious in Whitman v Brown. These two clowns...UGH...I think I’m going to be sick.
Remember that RR was an actor for 40 years before he ran for President. It served him well.
“I don’t know where to begin..”
