Fox News sued by feds for retaliating against reporter Catherine Herridge in sex, age bias case

It's looking like all out war against Fox News.

Just days after the president slammed the cable news network, declaring it "destructive" to America's long-term growth, the feds are suing Fox News for allegedly retaliating against a reporter who says she was discriminated against because of her age and gender.

It's the latest in increasingly hostile rhetoric against Fox News, not only from Obama but from Rahm Emanuel and the president's former communications director.

According to the lawsuit, filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Thursday, Catherine Herridge, a national correspondent who covers homeland security complained about discriminatory practices in the network starting in 2006.

Herridge, now 46, claimed "female and black correspondents were given less desirable shifts" in the network and that oftentimes assignments (including an anchor job) were denied or "taken away from her" due to her sex and age.

In 2008, the network said it found no evidence of bias, and when her contract came up for renewal, it included language barring her from making more discrimination complaints, according to the lawsuit.

Herridge, who joined Fox News in 1996 as a London correspondent, refused to sign the contract.

The lawsuit says the language in the contract was retaliatory.

Example of the communists control over America. We are toast and if you think not then inform me. Even if we take the Senate and House reversing the communists agenda will cause riots from the anti-Americans and the insane that make up at least 1/3 of America.

One would think that Greta Alexander is living proof that Fox does not discriminate because of age, sex, looks etc.

Or voice. She has a very irritating, screechy voice.

Extremely unusual step, most people have to bring these cases by themselves, the government almost never gets involved.

The title is a bit misleading. This woman had to file an EEO complaint against her employer, the Fed doesn’t take action on its on volition.

But it would be sweet for Fox to investigate the EEOC which is nothing more than a corrupt affirmative action agency processing stealth reparations. That’s what they do. And since this complaint is leveled at one of the current Administrations much hated enemies no need to speculate who will win.

“Might give them a chance to claim all negative stories are retaliation for suing Fox News. Wonder if Fox has to disclose that it is being sued by the government everytime it reports on the DOJ or the administration?”

There is an old adage in politics, “don’t pick a fight with a man that buys ink by the barrel.” I believe this adage to be true and prescient. Imagine what Fox can do with this situation? Where is the upside for the WH? This is a very silly and shortsighted move. But then again, we have a silly and shortsighted president. Also, a very vain and insecure president.

If I were FNC, I’d let the contract expire and say “Bye!”

At that point, she would sue for retaliation. Fox is in a "can't win" situation. Women who sense their careers are heading down currently have an incentive to sue for discrimination, because then any attempt to fire or downgrade them will be seen as "retaliation".

Women reporters who initially get jobs primarily because of their looks, get upset when the ride looks like it's going to end.

I think this is exactly what Rand Paul was talking about when he wished companies could run themselves the way they want to be run. As long as there’s open competition, you could have an all-female network or well, you already have an all-black cable station...
