Fox News sued by feds for retaliating against reporter Catherine Herridge in sex, age bias case

It's looking like all out war against Fox News.

Just days after the president slammed the cable news network, declaring it "destructive" to America's long-term growth, the feds are suing Fox News for allegedly retaliating against a reporter who says she was discriminated against because of her age and gender.

It's the latest in increasingly hostile rhetoric against Fox News, not only from Obama but from Rahm Emanuel and the president's former communications director.

According to the lawsuit, filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Thursday, Catherine Herridge, a national correspondent who covers homeland security complained about discriminatory practices in the network starting in 2006.

Herridge, now 46, claimed "female and black correspondents were given less desirable shifts" in the network and that oftentimes assignments (including an anchor job) were denied or "taken away from her" due to her sex and age.

In 2008, the network said it found no evidence of bias, and when her contract came up for renewal, it included language barring her from making more discrimination complaints, according to the lawsuit.

Herridge, who joined Fox News in 1996 as a London correspondent, refused to sign the contract.

The lawsuit says the language in the contract was retaliatory.

What Fox News says about the Wee Wee is definitely more worthy of prosecution by my office than a harmless case of voter intimidation by some Black Panther Brothers against some evil and stupid Crackers.

This is cheeseball, Third World country stuff.

With a Kenyan in the White House, no surprises here.

When Herridge refused to agree to the terms of the contract, she was forced to work for the network "without the benefit of an employment contract" for the next nine months.

How exactly is someone "forced" to work anywhere if they don't have a contract? Shouldn't the terminology be she "chose" to work w/out a contract?

I have no idea why this is a federal matter. It sounds like a contract dispute to me.

FWIW...Katherine gave up 1/4 of her liver for her newborn child, who had liver failure....sad story that almost killed kid and mom. Hope both are doing well and get this quibbling behind them.

As another Freeper asked..>WHY IS THE FED INVOLVED!?

How could she get hired if she didn’t sign a contract? That’s a real poser.

She’s 46? Wow. She looks a lot younger than that.

Herridge, now 46, claimed "female and black ugly and liberal looking correspondents were given less desirable shifts" and is suing for not being a "hot fox news babe" on FR and on the internet.

...there fixed it.

This is not going to enhance Herridge’s employability, is it?

Could Fox have just not offered her a contract at all?

Pretty sad that the question even has to be asked, actually.

It's looking like all out war against Fox News.

Remember though, a war has two sides... I look for some very unflattering and in depth reports by O'Reilly, Hannity, Greta etc. into the inner working and personnel at the EEOC coming very soon.

This WH is a clown show. They really don’t understand the limit of their reach. So the WH is suing a State and a News network. Funny. All hail Mr. Skittles!! Does the WH think this will chill Fox or more correctly give them a bigger audience? Dopes.

Guess she wasn’t happy with all those trips to Gitmo.

I thought her reporting excellent. Who knew she was turning into a bitter old shrew.

I had Catherine Herridge figured all wrong. I thought she was a decent sort of a person, not prone to caving in to the liberal new-think. Tough as nails, gave up a kidney to save her child’s life.

She may be correct in her accusations, but made the typical leftist move of begging the government for redress. If I were FNC, I’d let the contract expire and say “Bye!”
