Poll Finds Many Illinois Voters Unhappy With Choice of Senate Candidates

Voters have starkly negative views of both candidates, each of whom has struggled in the campaign with stories that have hurt them. (Giannoulias had to spend time dealing with questions about the dealings of his family's bank, which ultimately failed, and Kirk had to acknowledge embellishing on his military service record).

Forty-seven percent see Kirk unfavorably compared to 33 percent who regard him favorably, with 20 percent undecided. Giannoulias is seen unfavorably by a 48 percent to 33 percent margin, with 20 percent undecided. In mid-August, 34 percent had seen Kirk unfavorably and 42 percent saw Giannoulias unfavorably which suggests that the larger number of voters who were undecided last month had joined the ranks of the disillusioned.

It's no surprise, then, that a plurality of voters -- 45 percent -- wish someone better was running,

There is someone better running in the race and that candidate is Mike Labno. Mark Kirk is as far left as you can get on Abortion and Gun Control. He even received 100% rating from NARAL and supports Partial Birth Abortion. He receives the lowest rating from gun groups and has been endorsed over Alexi by antigun groups. One then might respond that he is a “fiscal conservative” and they can vote for him on that once you get past babies brains getting sucked out and the sure thing he’ll vote for every anti-gun regulation that comes down the pike not to mention that on the Supreme Court he would vote to confirm any Justice Obama sends him. Kirk’s fiscal record is at best scizophrenic he was one of six including Mike Castle that voted for Cap and Trade. He voted for TARP and voted for Obama’s additional “stimulus spending” and he has never been a reliable fiscal conservative though he does reliably support free trade and did vote for the Bush tax cuts.

Kirk is not the candidate that should be running in this race this year. He only lucked out in the primary and he likes talking about his role in the Lame Duck congress but the truth is he is the one who has been ducking. He’s been ducking debates (didn’t debate once with Patrick Hughes), ducking his record which would make a liberal Dem proud. I know plenty of folks like to justify voting for this quiet chameleon but he will be absolutely the worst Senator we could possibly have outside of having Barbara Boxer join the Republican Party.

I believe there is an opportunity for conservatives and the Tea Party in this race. Mike Labno who I’ve had the opportunity to talk to personally is a credible candidate. He is a devote catholic, his mother died when he was a child and he was raised by his widowed father, he is Pro-Life and receives the highest rating from Pro-Life orgs, he is not a social liberal and favors states rights on the issues of Immigration and Same Sex Marriage. He supports a strong National security though he does not believe nation building has served us in Iraq and Afghanistan and in my conversations with him he expressed a deep love for the troops and a committment to provide resources and funding for them even if he disagrees with the conflict or the way we got into it.

Mike is a self made man. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and got his start working on hot rods. He is a Construction foreman by profession and is a union member but he does not support Card Check or liberal union policies. He is also a musician and volunteers at his church, the Chicago Guardian Angels, and the World Security Bureau where he provided security and for victims of domestic violence escorting them to court hearings. He is also involved with local TEA Parties.

He is an awesome candidate and not one of the typical “out there” libertarians. He is a Jefforsonian Libertarian who used to be a Republican but got fed up with the party. I think Mike deserves the support of conservatives in this race we have just enough time to kick both Alexi and Kirk to the side.

Don’t take my word for it. Contact him and talk to him at his web site or here on FreeRepublic.

I’d vote for a convicted axe murderer before I’ vote for either the RINO or the Dem running.

Kirk and Alexi remind me of a bit on the first season of Futurama, where the two major party political candidates for President of Earth in the year 3,000 were not just alike, they were clones of the same guy.

Just wait until Chicago is given a choice for mayor.
Talk about depression.

It boils down to two things:

1. NO LEADERSHIP
2. NO PRINCIPLES

NEITHER of these candidates have them.

Was planning on leaving that vote blank. I’ll vote for Labno. Makes no difference if the “Republican” or the Democrat wins. We lose with both.

except that, if the Republicans were to take back the Senate, Harry Reid (if he wins his election) would lose his Majority Leader position--which would be worth it--to me... ha! would love to see that... would be even better if he loses the election...

BTW, The Constitution Party candidate for Illinois U.S. Senate, Randy Stufflebeam, may, also, qualify for ballot status, before November 2. Randy is, still, fighting in court to get onto the ballot.

Yes, that’s exactly why a lot of us are voting for Kirk - not because we like him or can even stand him, but simply because it could give the Republican/Tea Party the majority in Senate, with all the ramifications. Kirk would be a fool to think we like him though - we’d just as soon punch him in the face.

Thanks. You are exactly right. Too many “blue” states offer no choice for voters. You get your choice of radical social leftist Democrats & Republicans who are also both mostly fiscal liberals. I’ve heard people say they ate voting for Kirk because he is a fiscal conservative but that only shows they don’t know his record. It is like sprinkling chocolate chips on a cow pie & calling it a cookie.

Not asking for sympathy but realize that outside of Chicago and Cook county, the rest of Illinois is overwhelmingly conservative and Chicago itself even has conservatives, there are some on this very forum.

Y'all just keep on throwing your fellow conservatives under the bus, even if they do live in Illinois.

Well, a pox on your house sir, here's to hoping the big city liberals that infest this state move to yours.
