Citing "Mental Anguish," Christine O'Donnell Sought $6.9 Million in Gender Discrimination Lawsuit
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/12/10 | John McCormack

Posted on 09/12/2010 10:11:56 AM PDT by truthandlife

Court documents obtained Saturday by THE WEEKLY STANDARD reveal surprising new details about the gender discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Christine O'Donnell in 2005 against her former employer, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, a conservative non-profit based in Delaware.* O'Donnell, who is now challenging moderate congressman Mike Castle in the September 14 Delaware GOP Senate primary, sought $6.95 million in damages. In a court complaint, she extensively detailed the "mental anguish" she suffered after allegedly being demoted and fired because of her gender. And, although she didn't have a bachelor's degree until this year, O'Donnell implied she was taking Master's degree classes at Princeton University in 2003.

O'Donnell alleged in a July 1, 2005 complaint filed in district court that she had been demoted because ISI's conservative philosophy dictated that women must be subordinate to men. She claimed she was fired when she contacted the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding her demotion. ISI told the Delaware News Journal that she had been "terminated for operating a for-profit business."

O'Donnell's finances, honesty, and stability have been called into question in light of her false and strange claims. The court complaint raises further questions on all fronts. O'Donnell, who made an annual salary of $65,000 at ISI as director of communications and public affairs, sought up to $6,952,477 million in damages, claiming, among other allegations, that ISI had defamed her and had violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. O'Donnell sought:

--Up to $3,952,447 in "Direct Damages, including back pay" and "lifetime lost income and liftetime damage to reputation."

I’m sorry if I missed the part where she was sued....I thought they were just holding her degree until she finished paying....and I think the article said she had been making payments....forgive me if I’m wrong on those facts...I will check again when i get a chance

Hahaha. You O’Donnell supporters are comical.

I am sure she would be a reliable conservative vote. The problem is she just not going to win the general election. Delaware is a state that sent JOE BIDEN to the Senate every six years forever. Tom Carper is a liberal dolt and he is now a Democrat Senator for life.

How does the country win if O’Donnell beats Castle and loses the general election thus giving the Democrats a win?
The Democrat who wins will be a COMPLETE rubber stamp for Obama. Castle, like it or not, wouldn’t be. If your upset over SOME of Castle’s votes, be prepared to be upset about ALL of the new Democrat Senator from DE.

A choice between the Party of commies and the Party of NAGs and SNAGs (sensitive New Age guys). No-vote! Be nonpolitical. Stop generating revenues for the bipartisan, socialist political class.

I prefer arguments to assertions. I understand people are tired and all, but I find it tiresome that every argument around FR lately is “settled” by one side claiming the other side is part of some “GOP Establishment” trying to sabatoge O’Donnell, or whatever candidate they prefer.

In my opinion, it is somewhat intellectually lazy to use ad hominem attacks whenever someone disagrees with the preferred position.

A great example is the NH race, where some conservatives have endorsed the guy, while other conservatives have endorsed the girl. Each side is claiming that the other side’s supporters are all RINOS or, in a newer construct, the “Conservative Ruling Class”.

As Paul Meringoff puts it so well over at Powerline:

“There is an unfortunate tendency among some on the right to adopt the view that no one is a *real* conservative except for them and a handful of their friends or followers. This sort of divisive, exclusionary attitude is a sure ticket to perpetual minority status, and should be avoided by all conservatives.”

There is a GOP establishment. It does pick the people it would prefer to win. That doesn’t mean that every conservative who happens to agree with the establishment pick is “part of the establishment” or is “enabling the establishment”. You pick who you think is best — you can’t help which other people might pick the same candidate.

I don’t think anybody is seriously going to compare O’Donnell to Reagan.

Nor is it an argument to say that since Reagan overcame the claims of some that he couldn’t win, every candidate who anybody says can’t win will also overcome that claim.

I never said Reagan couldn’t win, and I voted for him.

Not sure what Mitt has to do with whether O’Donnell can win a general election in Delaware. But I’m pretty sure I can say that O’Donnell has done her share of leg-shooting in this campaign.

Because this isn't a war between Republicans and Democrats. This is a war between progressives and patriots. People like McCain, Specter, and Castle are as much the enemy as Obama and Biden.

This election is not R vs D. It is beltway vs rest of the USA.

Remember Republicans are just as guilty as democrats in passing obamacare. They allowed the “lets debate it” to let it slide past committee.

Graham is the token vote to get sotomayor and kagen, the flaming liberals out of the judicial committee.

it is us vs them. DC is them.

HOW TF did the Tea Party end up with her and not someone who has fewer skeletons?

The Tea Party is a reaction against the 1st Moslem President who has brought hope and change to the Moslems and fear and loathing to the rest of us. The Tea Party movement is not an efficient organization with fully vetted candidates. I'm disappointed in O'Donnell although I wish everyone would end this petty and self-destructive infighting and follow Ronald Reagan's high road for a change. We should support whichever candidate wins the primary.

Good for her.

Did you read the story and support her lying, or just didn't bother?

The attacks and smears by Kristol and Krauthammer suggest that some folks are afraid that O'Donnell will place the interests of the US ahead of the interests of Israel, if there becomes a conflict.

I hope she overcomes all these attempts to smear her.

Just as Limbaugh was discussing today, the Delaware GOP and the folks at the Weekly Standard are employing the Nuts and Sluts strategery against O’Donnell. I smell their fear.

This is as good a place as any to ask this:

When was the last time you actually read the WEEKLY STANDARD or NATIONAL REVIEW? And took it seriously?

My subscriptions ran out in 2003, but I was fed up with 90% of both of them for at least a year before that.

There are many here who feel the same yet you picked me to hound? Interesting.

Oh pure honest one...everyone has their faults.

I happen to think Christine is no worst then most in politics. At least she’s new blood and a conservative. I think she’ll do well if given a chance. Subject closed.

Rush "Jumped The Shark" in '04 when he totally shilled for Specter in the primary when he could have made the difference. That was right after he got in trouble, which may have been a factor. But he shilled for Specter and deserves no credibility now. He's an adjustable bed salesman, nothing more.

The lesson is WE SHOULD vet our candidates, because the press will be screaming about this until November if O’Donnell wins.

That would be true only if conservatives didn't have a lock on the media.

Oh, wait...

Whatever you people can think of to say, it doesn’t change the timeline (less than two days from the election).

Wait til you see what comes out after the election, if she wins.
