Obama to face hungry press corps (Obama to face softballs) [LIVE THREAD]
The Hill ^ | September 10, 2010 | Sam Youngman and Ian Swanson

With his presidency at a crossroads, President Obama will face the media Friday at his first press conference since the spring.

As an increasing number of political analysts predict that Republicans will win the House this fall, Obama on Friday will defend his economic policies and hope to fend off questions about his weakened political standing.

The key for Obama will be to stay on message -- vote Democrat or return to the policies of the George W. Bush administration -- as reporters try to get the president to make news.

Obama addressed some of the most burning questions by sitting down for a TV interview while traveling to Cleveland on Wednesday.

In an interview with George Stephanopolous for ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired Thursday, Obama was asked repeatedly about Republican criticisms of his economic policies and the coming debate over whether to extend Bush's tax cuts.

Obama refused to threaten a veto over the increasing likelihood that Congress will extend all of the tax cuts for a year or two, which would hand the GOP a victory.

The president also voiced confidence that his party will win the mid-term elections this fall, despite polls suggesting Republicans have a good chance of winning the House, and an outside chance of winning the Senate.

Barry looks distracted, aloof, depressed, sickly, has flat
affect.

Rambling.

Luckily he’s going to Campo David today to rest.

He’s put his money where his mouth is, too.

NEH challenge grants for 2010 include “Bridging Cultures”:

“The Muslim World and the Humanities

The history of the Muslim world is as complex and varied as the diverse nations and peoples who adhere to Islam across the globe. Recent cultural and political dynamics within Muslim countries have increasingly become a focus of scholarly research and public interest. At the same time, many in the public are unfamiliar with the multifaceted history of centuries of Islamic intellectual, political, and cultural traditions that have influenced civilizations throughout the world. The study of diverse humanities disciplines, from comparative literature to regional history, offers the opportunity to shed new light on the impact of Islam on the world and to broaden understanding across cultures. Many different approaches might be taken in exploring such topics from the perspective of humanities disciplines. Some possibilities include, by way of example only, an examination of

the influence exerted by cultural developments originating in the Muslim world on the arts, the sciences, and literature elsewhere in the world; the commonalities uniting and the differences dividing Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, and the grounds for advancing mutual respect; the immigrant experiences of Muslims in the United States, spanning over two centuries of our nation’s history.

In exploring these or other themes, programs should expand public knowledge of the Muslim world, while fostering avenues for cross-cultural understanding.

The forum and the program development workshop Project proposals for “Civility and Democracy” or “The Muslim World and the Humanities” should consist of...

Business. Religion. Technology. Education. Politics.
Falling like dominoes.

Look up how Muslims discovered America. There are those out there who claim to have legitimate evidence of such......

The Day of Service, by the way, is forced Islamic charity. The GZ ‘community center’ is likely going to get federal funds as a community center. The developer wants a stiff poll tax, too.

Oh, what I would give to see Chris Christie face that bunch of presstitutes. I know I wouldn’t agree with all of Christie’s politics on social or foreign issues (he’s sort of Rudy-ish in that regard), but just seeing him use that New Jersey bluntness to dismantle those self-important blowhards would be fantastic television. Maybe if we get somebody like Sarah Palin in there in 2012, she can hire the Big Man as her press secretary. :)

Ed Henry CNN: Isn’t it a failure of your administration, nearly two years in, that you haven’t gotten bin laden? He reminded O that he told CBS that capturing or killing bin laden was going to be paramount to his efforts in Af-gone-eee-stahn.
