President Obama on Friday said he has no regrets about describing the last three months as the "Recovery Summer."
"I don't regret the notion that we are moving forward because of the steps that we have taken," Obama said in response to a question after he offered comments on the latest unemployment figures.
The administration described the summer of 2010 as "recovery summer" because a large amount of the 2009 stimulus package was being spent over the summer. But job growth slowed dramatically over the summer amid concerns the economy was moving into a double-dip recession, and Republicans have made fun of the moniker.
The president's remarks came after the Labor Department released jobs data showing unemployment rising from 9.5 to 9.6 percent. The private sector created 67,000 jobs, but overall the economy lost 54,000 jobs.
Those numbers were better than expected, and are easing concerns about a double-dip recession. Still, Republicans argued Friday they fall short of a real recovery.
The administration has held firm that its policies are slowly but surely nursing the economy back to health.
"We are confident we are moving in the right direction but we want to make sure this economy" is getting even stronger, Obama said on Friday.
Obama said he would be offering a new package of ideas on the economy next week.
they should also be shouting about how this justice dept is screwing over AZ and hwo it has become a political witch hunt against them but no yet again the GOP keep quiet.
To be honest I don’t think even if we get power in both houses and the white house they will repeal Govt health care .
I say that after seeing Laura Ingraham interview Cantor.
{I knew who you meant! ;)}
I think we’ll ALL be telling him in November!
Let’s stick to the facts...Summers Over...
Thanks Qbert.
No, it was always their plan to spend a large amount of the stim money this summer, to try to stim the election of Dims. Always.
Obama simply reeks of deperation now. Roemer quitting the Central Soviet Planning Bureau left a convulsively nonsensical image of an economic team wholely incapable of lifting the country out of ruin. It’s slipping through those fingers now, baby. No one is feeling that appetite for hope anymore.
“Obama said he would be offering a new package of ideas on the economy next week.”
Sure with the election coming up in about 8 weeks. Otherwise he could care less.
“So the question is - To whom has he given the task to come up with these ideas since he has no intention of doing actual work himself.”
Good question- especially since his economic team is bailing on him...
Narcissists never ever admit they are wrong. They believe they are God.
In 17 days, summer will be over.
Then it will be fall of the recovery. (coined by another intelligent freeper).
Hello Nathan.....
There are several speaking out now about this “lame duck session” coming up.... where the Democrates will push thru just about anything they want to since they know they are going to go down anyway...I think there is good reasons to be concerned as well. The American people can and have protested and as we have seen ignored or at best appeased the uninformed. So what’s your take..am interested in your opinion.
You know they could leave such a mess by 2012 that even if we take the leadership it will take years to just get our heads above water...then the Democrates can come in for the “kill” in the next elecction... and take the credit for pulling us on out of all this muck and mire...yet continue with their agenda anew.
Hey zero, why not have another Jobs Summit? That first one was oh so successful.
The would be true, except it is difficult to make the case that we still have a free market with all the bail outs and TBTF efforts put forth by our government and the Fed. We really have a version of crony - capitalism that is much more like Europe.
What these means is that politics and economics are now effectively and completely intertwined, the relationship between business and government is an uneasy partnership.
Both sides, the Fed/money center banks and the Federal government want more spending, they buy into these Keynesian ideas that we can borrow and stimulate our way out of this economic mess. This is a fool's errand, the marginal utility of debt and government spending are now very low or negative, it just will not work.
Congress is scared stupid to spend more money of any significance, the Fed will not do it for them right now. We are stuck in this stagnation, they will not let the market work and can't spend the amount that would make a difference. Government has completely perverted the market, this effectively leads us no where.

“You can always count on Obama to double down.”
And he’s really doubling down on stupid this time.
New economic ideas from 0bama?
Oh, this will be good.
Resign. All liberal congress members resign.
We will see an immediate rebound.
LMAO thats priceless!
