And you thought that a libtalker declaring a public space too sacred for God would be the dumbest quote from the Left on the Restoring Honor rally hosted by Glenn Beck. Michael Graham from Boston’s WTKK posts a clip of Governor Deval Patrick responding to a question about the rally by noting first that it’s a free country — and then that he’s not terribly happy about that, either:

When I read Leon Trotsky’s three volume biography, the author (I don’t remember the name, may have been Dietrich) attributed it to Trotsky.
I read it in my younger years. The author, who was a Communist sympathizer when he wrote the biography, later disavowed Communism.
What is a wimp like Patrick going to do? Slash us with one of his credit cards?
If the government does crumble, or if we do fall into conflict (as is our history), hacks like this guy don’t stand a chance.

You’re right; with the exception of defending a right of a woman to murder a baby, the Democrats don’t even pretend to be defenders of individual rights. They openly declare the government’s right to your income, your weapons, your education, etc,. It is very disturbing that they do this quite openly, and can still win elections.
Patrick et. al. are begging for a Ceaucescu type of Christmas.

I remember that name from my Americanism vs communism classes in High School. That was before the communists absorbed the public education of our schools. I think he was the guy the communists claimed would have made communism successful.
Grammatically "it weren't" can only refer to "free country" not rally and here's why:
The rally question used "it was there".. To refer back to rally required "it wasn't" there (past tense) and NOT "it weren't" there (as if it is still there).
But to refer back to the answer's "it's" a free country" required "it weren't" a free country (since it still is) which is what he said.
He may have wanted to refer to the rally, but he did not.

I'll give this to Deval: at least he's honest about his philosophies.
