Grammatically "it weren't" can only refer to "free country" not rally and here's why:
The rally question used "it was there".. To refer back to rally required "it wasn't" there (past tense) and NOT "it weren't" there (as if it is still there).
But to refer back to the answer's "it's" a free country" required "it weren't" a free country (since it still is) which is what he said.
He may have wanted to refer to the rally, but he did not.
Two things. First, there is a pause between thoughts and he switches back to the original question. From the context, he is refering to the fact that he wishes the rally weren’t at the Lincoln Memorial but it was. Second, any party that supports the current public education system and has an Ivy League educated first lady who says “Me and Barack” isn’t concerned about grammar and useage.
It isn’t necessary to parse the words of an illiterate to determine their disdain for freedom and liberty. Deval Patrick is just as much a Saul Alinsky Marxist as 0bieWon or Hillary or any of the other Dems.
